New to ATAK/ITAK

Utilizing ITAK in a old iPhone 11 I had in the closet. What is the easiest way to get a map downloaded for offline use of North America?

I tried utilizing Google/Apple Maps to download offline hybrids satellite maps but you are very restricted to an area about the side of Georgia yet alone the entire continent of North America.

Update WinTAK Gateway

Here is a short update on my WinTAK Meshtastic Gateway Plugin (https://github.com/fredy060795/WinTAK-Meshtastic-Gateway-Meshtastic-WinTAK-Plugin-).
I have successfully managed to display markers from Meshtastic that originate from ITAK or ATAK. Unfortunately, there is still a bug with ITAK where the markers are not being displayed correctly. I will solve this with further research, but I am very glad that WinTAK can now receive and send CoT via Meshtastic to ATAK

New to ATAK

Now i am only able to use iTAK, i currently have it setup on argustak and i can see locations, but i want to actually get into this space and do cool things.

If i wanted to be able to use iTAK to its fullest potential, like connect the video feed to a helmet cam, be able to use the chat, share files how would i go about doing that?

i would also like to get a radio that im able to speak through, and also share video if thats possible. but im thinking i would rather build one. so how would i go about doing that?

i really dont know anything about ATAK, but id like to get into it

TROP on iOS

Hey everyone,

A while ago, we shared TROP here as a TAK-compatible field platform we were building for iOS, Android, web and tactical / public-safety use cases.

Big update from our side: TROP for iOS is now officially available on the App Store.

This release is a major milestone for us, but also just the beginning.

Over the last months we’ve been testing, fixing and improving the app with a strong focus on real field workflows, TAK / CoT compatibility and the operator experience on mobile devices.

Some of the technical areas we have been working on:

*TAK / CoT-compatible workflows for shared operational picture, markers, contacts and mission data

*Map-centric UI designed for fast field use on mobile devices

*Raster, vector, satellite and 3D terrain map support

*Offline map caching and offline navigation workflows

*Marker creation directly from the map, including type, remarks, coordinates, sharing and mission context

*Contact and marker lists with filtering, search and multi-selection

*Routes, tracking, path history and direct / walking / driving navigation

*Live video streaming from the phone

*Video feed viewing directly on top of the operational map

*Support for multiple simultaneous video feeds

*Map overlays, data packages, KML / file-based imports and operational layers

*Security-focused settings, certificates, TLS configuration and device-level protections

*Foundations for drone, sensor, AI-assisted and resilient communications workflows

The general idea behind TROP is to provide a modern C4ISR / COP field layer that keeps maps, markers, missions, video, navigation, sensors and team coordination inside one shared operational environment.

We are not presenting this as “finished forever”.
There is still a lot to improve, test and harden.

But making the iOS version publicly available is an important step, and we would really appreciate feedback from people who actually understand ATAK, TAK servers, CoT, mesh networks, drones, SAR, public safety and real field coordination.

If you try it, we’d love to hear what works, what does not, what feels confusing, and what you would expect from a TAK-compatible mobile platform.

New mesh/ATAK user

Hello guys,

First of all thank you all for existing, this project looks great! I have this situation and I hope I can solve it with ATAK.

I have 2 sons, we usually go to walk on the woods near my home and I just bought 3 Meshtastic devices with GPS. My plan is to give each of my kids one of the devices and keep one for me, then set them free to run and play and be able to track them using ATAK. Is that possible? I don't want to give them any phones or anything similar, just the mesh devices.

Thanks in advance

Atak video question

Has anyone messed with trying to get video over a mesh network by sending some kind of custom low-bandwidth stream first, then rebuilding it back into RTSP/SRT at a gateway?

Recommendations

Hey yall!

Kind of New to the TAK server side of ATAK. I built my own and was messing around with certs and sign ons and realized the manual way to do it is time consuming. To do that for every single user would take alot of work. Even utilizing the auto enroll still involves giving a single root cert to every user. Has anyone come across or built a good on boarding way if they needed multiple users on the server?

Meshtastic ATAK-ITAK Maker COT dosnt work only Text & GPS

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding Meshtastic in ATAK and iTAK. I'm running into an issue where I can't seem to send markers correctly. While text messages and positions are working fine, markers are not being transmitted—specifically from iTAK to ATAK using the plugins.

Because of this, I'm also unable to get it working within the WinTAK Gateway. Does anyone have any ideas on what I might be doing wrong or how to fix this?

Thanks for your help!

TAK-Portal Makes User Administration MUCH easier

Right now, two new prototypes are coming together like chocolate and peanut butter to do exactly that.

First is TAK-Portal, a brilliant new prototype for TAK as a Service (TAKaaS) being developed by Justin Davis at the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department in Tennessee. It elegantly handles tedious backend tasks and safely pushes management down to the edge users, radically reducing the administrative burden.

The second is Infra-TAK. A couple of months ago, I mentioned how much easier this makes standing up a complete TAKServer infrastructure. Infra-TAK will now auto-deploy TAK-Portal—along with almost everything else needed for a full TAK environment—directly to Amazon (AWS) and Azure cloud deployments.

Together, these tools tackle the core costs of a TAK ecosystem: they reduce the time to install, and they lower the barrier of technical expertise required to manage the workload.

Innovations like this are the exact kind of scalable, cloud-ready solutions required to drive TAK’s growth across every sector. I’m eager to hear your thoughts on these prototypes so we can share feedback with the developers.

Working on a new Walkie-Talkie/PTT POC for ATAK (Mumble-based, VX-compatible)

I am working on a new POC (cellular based PTT Walkie-Talkie) plugin in ATAK. While several solutions exist, I found they often fall short in audio handling and external device support.

A bit of background: I come from an amateur radio background and work with local clubs that handle full communications (Ham, GMRS, LMR). When we volunteer for large-scale events like bike rallies or Iron-distance triathlons, we face a two-pronged problem:

  1. Aging Population: It is increasingly difficult to find enough volunteers in the radio community to man every post.
  2. Geographic Scale: These large course areas are becoming incredibly difficult to cover reliably with traditional physical radio infrastructure alone.

For me, radio has always been about the mission—communications. We’ve spent decades talking about how radio is the "most reliable thing on the planet," but in that process, I think we forgot to embrace modern technology. ATAK brings so much to the table that we shouldn’t be ignoring.

My goal is to build true mixed mode comms—with cellular and MANET working together—to bridge the gap between tech-savvy new volunteers and old-school radio reliability. This solution leans heavily on voice because that is what I am most familiar with, and ATAK provided a great platform to do all of this in. It's hard to believe I only downloaded TAK 3 months ago, but I am fully in it now.

The Core Concept

Push-to-talk over Mumble, using your TAK enrollment cert as your identity. No separate accounts or passwords. If your TAK server has Mumble running (like OTS does), you're already provisioned.

What you actually experience as a user

  • Hardware PTT buttons that just work: Native support for the Aina Voice Responder V1/V2 with full dual PTT capabilities, integrated speaker-mics on RAM Mounts (RAM RSM / GDS Audio PTT), and generic BLE buttons (Pryme, etc.). They map directly to your channels without fighting a remap UI.
  • Native Emergency Button Support: Full integration for hardware-based emergency/orange buttons to trigger alerts directly within the TAK ecosystem.
  • Full-duplex & flexible call modes: Supports latched (full-duplex) mode alongside traditional momentary PTT for natural, continuous conversation.
  • Battery-friendly Bluetooth audio: SCO is only engaged while you're actually keying—not held open for the whole session. Background PTT runs in a foreground service with the proper Android privileges to ensure it doesn't get killed.
  • Mix-and-match audio routing: Use a speaker-mic for the PTT button, but route the audio to your vehicle's Bluetooth or a headset. The picker auto-refreshes and falls back gracefully if a device disconnects.
  • Native OS behavior: Built on Android's self-managed Telecom API. Spotify pauses/resumes, the lock screen shows your call status, and incoming cellular calls won't bleed into your transmission.
  • A real PTT-stack UX: Talk-permit tones before TX, plus distinct deny / no-channel / interrupt tones. Includes a configurable PTT timeout (20–90s) with a warning chirp and a sustained cutoff tone that mixes over incoming voice.
  • VX-compatible: Fully interoperable with VX clients; they see you, and you see them.

What's Coming (Roadmap)

  • Mesh/Off-grid resilience (Mixed Mode): Per-channel UDP multicast failover, AEAD-encrypted with channel keys distributed via Mumble. Your comms keep working on a local mesh when the WAN goes down—essential for those dead zones on large courses.
  • Auto-discovery: Automatic channel discovery directly from the server.
  • UI Enhancements: Split-screen settings for TX/RX and Channels/Preferences.

Notes for the Community / Devs

  • Built clean-room against the public ATAK SDK and the public Mumble protobuf protocol.
  • All TPT/status tones are code-synthesized sine waves modeled on public LMR cue conventions—no sampled audio.
  • Targets ATAK-CIV 5.6+ on Android 8 and up.

I am soliciting feedback from folks. Does this mixed-mode approach address the pain points you're seeing in the field? Would love to hear your thoughts.

As of now my plan is to make this open source and available for free, but donations of Silvus Streamcasters are always welcome.

I need Help with WinTAK-Meshtastic-Gateway-Meshtastic-WinTAK-Plugin

(EDIT 13.05.2026 I fixt it now i can send Text but not COT perfect so makers will send as Text key chain and not COT so i need to dig in)

Hello everyone, I need your help. I developed the WinTAK-Meshtastic Gateway (https://github.com/fredy060795/WinTAK-Meshtastic-Gateway-Meshtastic-WinTAK-Plugin-) and I am currently trying to implement sending CoT (Cursor on Target) and Chat messages.

Receiving data works perfectly, but outgoing data from WinTAK does not reach the Mesh. Does anyone know which specific port is responsible for this, or could someone take a look at the repository? Thank you.

Meshtastic is killing EUD Handler

Hi everyone, I’ve noticed the following issue and it’s extremely annoying: My OTS server keeps hanging/getting stuck at the EUD handler whenever I use Meshtastic for CoT with more than 47 users. Without Mesh, it runs for days without issues; with Mesh, I have to reboot every 5 hours. Does anyone have any idea why the hell this is happening?
