I just got a pair of Alden tassel loafers and I’m so hyped but I’m worried about something I found in the cordovan. There is a small tear on the toe. Is this a big deal or is it something I can fix easily? I love these shoes and I’ll just ask for a shoe swap if this is too big of a defect.
I’ve bought multiple pairs directly from the Alden store in San Francisco, and I keep noticing weird differences between the left and right shoe. On some pairs, the tongue is shaped differently, sits differently, or even feels like it was cut from a different pattern altogether.
It’s not just the tongue either — sometimes one shoe feels slightly more structured or finished better than the other. Considering the price point and Alden’s reputation, I honestly didn’t expect this level of inconsistency.
Curious if this is considered “normal” with Alden’s handmade production or if quality control has become less consistent recently.

This is the Seattle Snuff makeup for Brick + Mortar. Snuff suede upper with the Goodyear wedge sole. TruBalance last, size 9D. 360 degree antique welt. Still tons of life left. They were a catch and release for me. Comes with original box and shoe bags.
I'm debating which one of these to order. I'm predominantly looking at some ebay listing to pull the trigger. I've been sized in store, so I know what to expect there, but unsure what looks best.

Hey everyone, I bought a pair of Alden 907s for a wedding, my first pair of Aldens and also my first experience with leather soles.
I only wore them for the wedding itself, including a bit of dancing, and afterward the soles looked like this. Is this amount of wear normal for leather soles after a single wear?
I’m totally unfamiliar with how leather soles are supposed to break in, so I’m wondering if this is expected or if it’s something I should be concerned about / reach out to Alden about.

Considering a pair of Alden tassels on the Aberdeen last in 10E. My true size is 10, D-pushing-E width, high instep. (Wanted to get a pair of full straps and tassels eventually)
I have sensitive ankle bones and have had issues with high or stiff heel collars causing irritation. The Van last works well for me specifically because of its low, relaxed collar, I wear a 9.5D on the Van. I could probably wear an E, but figured it’s the 6243f aka the snuff suede so it’s alittle more forgiving compared to non-suede leather
Haven’t tried Aberdeen before and the seller is too far away to try these on in person. Curious if anyone with similar foot geometry has experience with how the Aberdeen heel collar behaves: height, stiffness, break-in. Does it soften appreciably with wear or stay structured?
Shoe has a return window so I’m not totally flying blind, but would love informed opinions before committing
Have tried a handful of boots between the widths of E and EEE on the Barrie and TruBalance lasts.
Oddly enough with the combination lasts my issue initially was the EEE on the TruBalance last fitting my ball but being much too wide in the heel. On the flip slide the narrowest option, an E width on the Barrie last seems to fit decently in the heel but much too narrow in the ball and toe box.
My foot is an EE Brannock but very high volume.
Is there a last with a wider forefoot but without such volume and excess material through the quarters?

I want to buy the Alden 990. However, I have a very big problem with the size.
I need your help with your extensive knowledge of Alden products.
Based on my foot length, 6.5 to 7.0 fits me.
However, size E does not fit because my feet are wide.
My foot width is 10.7 cm.
Also, the height is on the higher side at 6.7cm.
I would like to purchase Alden 990s. What size should I order?
Option 1. Order 7.5E

Had some Indy boots that needed to resoled in February. Sent them Wyatt and Dad to be resoled with a vibram rubber sole.
Finally picked up shoe trees for all of my shoes and boots
I’ve never been good at keeping my things stored correctly I just wear them and toss them into the corner lol
Made a resolution to get shoe trees and everybody and get everyone cleaned up really nice to demonstrate some kind of pride of ownership

Anyone have experience with how the Van last might compare to the Modified last in terms of support? The arch support (contoured waist) on the Modified is excellent, but I am worried an unlined LHS might not be a good fit for me. Similar experiences would be appreciated.
For reference, the completely unlined Leydon chukkas (1493) kill my feet (usually a B width, perhaps they are too wide in C), so I have second thoughts on an unlined suede LHS.
The Allen Edmonds 511 last (Leeds, Dundee, or Massdrop chukka) also has a fairly curved waist, and fits decent. While I am guessing here, it might be similar to the 379X but narrower in the toe box.
Maybe I need an entirely different last all together. Suggestions?
