Planning a road trip to Ratnagiri

Hello fellow redditors,

I am planning for a road trip from Mumbai to Ratnagiri on the 28th of August this year.

The route that I have planned is following -

Mumbai to Ratnagiri via old Mumbai Goa Highway NH 66.

For return i.e. Ratnagiri to Mumbai, I am planning a full Coastal route with following points -

Ratnagiri → Alibag → Murud → Harihareshwar → Dapoli → Ganpatipule → Mumbai

The route from Mumbai to Ratnagiri shows 6-7 hours and the return shows 12-13 hours.

I don't have an issue with the time.

My concern is if the return route will be good keeping in mind that in August it might rain and the return route contains ferry rides.

Please help me understand the conditions which I shall face and if it is worth it to take that route or I should just return via NH66

Planning a Pune → Alibaug bike trip this weekend (Fri–Sun) – Need advice !

Hi everyone,

My friend and I are planning a bike trip from Pune to Alibaug this weekend.

Plan:

  • Leave Pune on Friday around 6:00 AM
  • Stay near Akshi Beach
  • Return to Pune on Sunday morning around 6:00 AM

I checked the weather forecast and it shows:

  • Friday: Light rain
  • Saturday & Sunday: Thunderstorms

So I wanted to ask:

  • Is it safe and enjoyable to travel to Alibaug during the monsoon?
  • How heavy has the rain been recently?
  • Are the roads from Pune to Alibaug generally okay during this season, or should we expect waterlogging/slippery stretches?

Our itinerary:

  • Stay near Akshi Beach
  • Try local seafood at Hotel Sahil and Sanman
  • Visit Varsoli Beach
  • Explore Kulaba Fort during low tide
  • Spend most of the time exploring beaches (I'm a huge beach person 😄)

A few questions:

  1. Which beaches are the cleanest and least crowded this time of year?
  2. Are there any hidden beaches or viewpoints you'd recommend?
  3. I love collecting seashells, are there any beaches around Alibaug that are especially good for shell hunting?
  4. Which beach is best for watching the sunrise or sunset during the monsoon?
  5. Any must-visit cafes or seafood restaurants besides Sahil and Sanman?

Fish Market

I'm also interested in visiting a local fish market.

  • Which fish market is the best for fresh seafood?
  • What time should I visit for the best catch?
  • Is there any restaurant or homestay in Alibaug that will cook the fish if I buy it fresh from the market?

Finally, if you had 2 full days in Alibaug during the monsoon, what places would you absolutely not miss?

Would really appreciate any tips, especially from locals or people who've visited recently. Thanks! 😊

Bharlela Pomfret at Jhinga-Costal kitchen, Alibaug 🐟

amazing Bharlela Pomfret at Jhinga in Alibaug. The fish was incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked.Every bite was juicy and packed with authentic Konkani flavors.
If you're a seafood lover, this is definitely worth trying.
