Anyone have advice on how to get this grumpy old man used to new people? At least not try to bite every time I get close? This is my boyfriends 50+ year old yellow nape amazon Nicky. My boyfriend is the only person who has been able to handle or get close to him since he was re-homed with my him almost 20 years ago. We moved in together about 9 months ago and I really have not made much progress bonding with him. He lets me hand feed him fruit/veggies/peanuts but other than that he doesn’t want anything to do with me. I was cleaning his cage and I didn’t notice my head was a little too close to him and he reached out and bit me really close to my eye. (Second pic) I want to take care of him but I also would like to keep both of my eyes!

Is there any hope to have him at least be comfortable around me. What can I do???

Hark, peasants! Lestat would like to remind his kingdom that he has tamed a great beast (never mind that he’s a great beast himself) and even though it doesn’t look capable of belching flames, try to slight him and HE WILL MAKE IT BREATHE FIRE.

This creature is convinced that A. auropalliata and related species are not only more intelligent than H. sapiens, but dominating this planet is their birthright as the only surviving dinosaurs. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
