February visit

We will be staying here for 3 days in early Feb with kids 5-14. Any recommendations on what to do, where to go, what to eat, etc. We enjoy the outdoors and thrifting.

Is it too hot to visit next week?

Hello r/Ameliaisland! We are planning a trip next week and trying to figure out if it’s gone to be too hot even for the beach next week with the heat dome. Should we be concerned?

Babymoon + Possible Relocation to Amelia Island - Looking for Local Advice

Hi everyone! My fiancé and I are planning a babymoon/honeymoon to Amelia Island this October after our marriage ceremony. I'll be about 6½–7 months pregnant, so we're looking for a relaxing trip.

We'll be flying into JAX and renting a car so we will be able to move around as needed.

So far we have these activities on our radar:

  • Cumberland Island River Cruise
  • Spa day at The Ritz-Carlton - TBD if we wind up staying here
  • Beach time (duh)
  • Exploring downtown Fernandina Beach

What are your absolute must-do restaurants, hidden gems, or relaxing experiences? We'd love to hear your favorites.

The second reason for our trip is that we're seriously considering relocating. As Jersey Shore natives, we've always loved living by the water, but we're finding it harder to justify the high cost of living, taxes, politics, and everything else that comes with living in New Jersey right now. We're fortunate to have built successful businesses and earn a great income, but we'd rather invest our money somewhere that offers a great quality of life and a wonderful place to raise our growing family. We're also very conservative, so finding a community where we'd feel comfortable and that aligns with our values is an important part of our search.

We also have family throughout Florida (Tampa, Melbourne, Delray Beach, etc.), so we'd still be within driving distance of the people we love and know Florida well overall.

For those who live in Fernandina Beach, Yulee, St. Marys or the surrounding area:

  • Would you recommend it for raising a family?
  • What do you love most?
  • Any downsides we should know about?
  • Does it feel like a place where young families put down roots?

Really appreciate any/all advice! We're excited to visit and hoping to get a feel for whether this area could be home for us one day.

December Trip - Senior Parents

My parents and I will be staying in a villa in Turtle Dunes from Dec 26-30. They are seniors and cannot do a whole lot of walking. Any suggestions on activities we might be able to do during the Christmas season? I was thinking of renting a golf cart to explore downtown but not sure of the logistics since I cannot transport it.
