I love the team and really trying to go along with the changes. And I'm glad we beat Orlando!
But waking up to see this felt like the team was pouring salt into the wound.
Hope everyone is safe and sound. This was the view from our seats.
It only took 5 years, but I finally attended my first ACFC game last night. I noticed the giant trans flag being waved behind one of the goals had 5 white squares with thick gray borders in the white stripe. Can anyone tell me the meaning behind those squares?
(It was a great game! Jónsdóttir stealing that pass before scoring happened right in front of us. Plus, we were fortunately one section over from the firework that had gone astray.)
Y’all we looked great last night!! That said, Orlando looked terrible. For much of the night I was wondering if they actually had 10 players on the pitch. I’m not even sure if they put the ball in the box during the first 75’. I hope Banda is ok, but they sorely missed Barbra.
Angel City spent the evening on the front foot with Coach Leif whistling and waving for them to push up the entire night. Looks like we’re going all gas, no brakes for the rest of the season.
Ally’s presence was definitely felt (and I certainly didn’t appreciate her ball handling skills), but Carina may have been the X factor for me. Her presence in the mid-field has been getting stronger each game.
Next weekend will be a huge test as the Wave sit at the top of the table.
It’s the next day. The day after a win!…the day after a Marta yellow card…the day after Leif’s first victory as a coach…and the day after a Barbra Banda-less Pride team was easily defeated. Talk about the game, the win, the upcoming Wave match, or whatever you like.
Sol Rosa fans... A lot of uncertainty and questions were left going into and through the break and we were all wondering what Angel City 5.0 would look like. Well I dunno what you could call it but we look solid. Hard work, new tactics, new energy, rest, at home? Whatever it was it worked. Let's get into it.
Currently typing from the stands before the fireworks go off so I'll keep this by the halves what I saw live.
First Half
- Sentnor really looked comfortable in the midfield and was gelling with most of the team. She played smart and looked for her own and other opportunities in the attack.
- Both sides of the ball looked really well. Attacking wise we were really aggressive and pushed the ball towards goal. No driving to the box and then holding up play. Better combination play too between players. Defensively we were pestering and that followed through the whole game.
- With only 46% possession in the first half we were better suited to waiting for mistakes then in transition making quick attacks in. I think this style fits us better.
- Niehues continues to be a smart aggressive goal scorer for us. She is a baller!
Second Half
- The intensity really continued and we didn't give Orlando really many chances to develop anything in their attack.
- Svendís went one on one and got a goal! Love that growth. Love that she got on the board and she looks healthy.
- AA made some really good saves and one in particular when Washington got past Sams and Thompson. A clean sheet which is well deserved.
Overall
- This team looks better and more energized. After the second goal Orlando just looked lifeless. We gotta see some more games but this was probably the best finish coming off a long break. But again just really positive vibes here at BMO.

ACFC has had a very chaotic break. We haven’t picked up any standout players, lost Fuller and our coach. But … did anyone notice Putellas was in LA this week? Would she even be interested if we don’t have a stand out coach?
She would qualify as a HIP - but not sure if we have the salary cap available to make it happen (12% base charge) not sure how Gotham keeps stacking their roster, but thats another convo.
She doesn’t want to join a club that would potentially compete against Barca.
Perhaps she wants NWSL experience as prep for upcoming WC and playing against more of our USWNT.
I realize this is the longest of long shots, especially given the reports she reached a deal with London City. With nothing formally announced - a fan can dream.
Thoughts? Anyone else wanna jump in this clown car?

Today marks the official start to free agency and I’m officially sick to my stomach.

Excluding the two goal keepers where it’s not uncommon for the back up keepers to be on yearly contracts I am QUITE concerned about losing Sarah AND Claire.
**Sarah had a MUTUAL option for the 2027 season that seems to have been declined by one or both sides. That doesn’t necessarily mean she is leaving the club—but it doesn’t look great.
Similarly I’m concerned that Claire’s contract runs out at the end of the season and we do not have her locked in.

I remember a post earlier this year talking about how we had lost some of our out and proud players. We still have Ary of course. I hope Mai feels supported both personally and professionally. 🏳️🌈
Welcome back! After a month off Angel City returns to action with a Friday evening matchup at BMO against Orlando.
ACFC sits in 12th place with 13 points through 11 games from a 4-1-6 record. They scored 16 goals and allowed 14 goals. Orlando is in 8th place with 17 points through 12 games from a 5-2-5 record. They scored 18 goals and allowed 17 goals.
Orlando won the previous matchup 2-1 in April. Ovalle was injured trying to keep pace with Sveindis in that match. She was working her way back ahead of the break, so expect her to be in the starting 11. Barbara Banda leads the league in scoring with 11 goals through 12 games. Based on social media posts, Savy is still working her way back from the ankle injury and it’s not clear if Sveindis will return from her injury.
There wasn’t much news out of Orlando during the break but ACFC announced a new CEO (though she hasn’t started yet), fired their coach, sent Kennedy Fuller to Bay FC, picked up Ally Sentnor, didn’t make any changes in the midfield, didn’t sign a HIP, held a STH event, and generated a lot of social media attention. Oh - to be a fly on the wall at the training facility!

I watch a lot of soccer, and a lot of women's soccer... But I honestly have no idea who we are and/or should be targeting for Strauss's replacement. I'm definitely not excited that we canned him, but I choose to believe it was a brave choice to pull the plug on a bad fit (for my own sanity). So.... If our last exhaustive search was errant, who are we getting this time around?
