This is a marble fox, This fox species was created through genetic mutation in the 1900s. They were originally intended to be completely white, but an anomaly always gave them patterns in their fur. Due to their unnatural existence, they're unlikely to survive in the wild, so they live in captivity

In Western Australia’s Indigenous Noongar lore, the Willy Wagtail [Rhipidura leucophrys], isn’t just a cheeky backyard bird—it’s a fearless spiritual spy called the Djidi Djidi. I managed to catch this action shot just as it took off. [1024 x 683]

I wanted to share a bit of the beautiful spiritual belief surrounding this little character:

  • The Spirit Messenger: The Noongar people view the Djidi Djidi (or Djitti Djitti) as an active conduit between the living and the spirit world. When it enters a camp, it’s often seen as ancestors or passed loved ones coming to check on the family.
  • The Campsite Spy: Because of its constant chattering and curious nature, it’s known as a gossip. It’s believed the bird listens to human conversations and relays them to the spirits. Elders will often shoo the bird away before discussing serious family matters!
  • The Fearless Hunter: Ever wonder why such a tiny bird aggressively attacks crows, hawks, and large animals? In the Dreaming, the Djidi Djidi was once a legendary hunter who was robbed of its catch by Wardong (the crow) and Dwerda (the dingo). The bird never forgot the betrayal, which is why it flies with zero fear today.

Next time you see one dancing on a fence line, just remember—it might be listening!

Shot on Nikon D7500 + 200mm-600mm.
