What is this animal or insect?
At first we thought it was a bat, but we are leaning toward insect.
SoCal mountains, mostly hear it at night, but sometimes during the day. Seems to be in a big tree outside of our house, maybe on the deck though.

Hi guys, i need some help to identify the source of this sound. Season 1 Episode 22. At the outdoor scenes there is some nighttime sound; birds, bugs etc. Is there a any kind of name for it, is it a local or specific kind bird/bug sound? I need to identify that to search more about this sound. One of my favorite song is starting with the same sound too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pw-0pbY9JeU&list=RDPw-0pbY9JeU&start_radio=1 thxx.
I’m in rural northeast Texas. I hear these guys in the morning or evening. It doesn’t register on Merlin. None of my friends recognize the sound.
can anyone identify this noise and tell us what animal it is?
germany 2:54 am in a village.
It sounds like a dog but there aren't any dogs around, I'm camping in the woods.
Absolutely FREAKED me out. I thought I was hearing voices 😭
I was just about to go take my dogs out to pee and then sleep for the night, but then I started hearing this sound. It started off loud, but by the time I got my phone and started recording the sound started getting lower and lower.
I don’t know if this will help, but I do live in Southern California and I’m only putting this because it might help identify the type of animal this is
I live in Houston Texas and over the past several weeks this high pitch noise has been playing on and off every 10-20 seconds only at night (so I’m assuming this is some sort of bug/insect). It’s coming from either on my roof or in the trees/branches that overhang my house. I can hear it very clearly and loud from inside my house and from outside of my house. I have no idea what it is and it’s driving me crazy because it’s SO loud. Any help on identifying this noise is appreciated.
Though it was a bird (recorded using Merlin) but got no results. Thinking it could be some sort of rodent or frog maybe? Sorry for the bad video - couldn’t figure out how to post just the audio file!
Edit to add: heard this in White Mountains of New Hampshire
I am in (very rural) Lee, Florida. I've been noticing this one lonely voice often between certain hours of the early morning. I'm guessing a domestic dog who's kept outdoors. Probably not a coyote, since it's only one voice.
NE Ohio around 9:00 at night
I've been hearing this bird the last few nites at work and can't figure out what it is. I happened to catch an owl at 3 seconds too, but I'm referring to the "peent peent" sound. It's def a bird, as I can tell it's in a tree. I'm in Northern Ohio, if that helps
Located in the middle of Georgia. Repetitive loud sound we hear a few times a day in our backyard patio area. Always the same repetitive cadence. Thanks!
My partner and I heard this sound outside out apartment and used a bird identifier app, but it couldn't''t recommend anything that sounded similar.
It makes like a strange croaking/quacking (?) sound, and theres at least 2 of them who talk back and forth every night. All the research i’ve done just tells me it’s owls. I’ve never heard them converse like that before so i really don’t believe thats what it is. If it’s any help i live in Minnesota.
