For those that have watched the 2025 Anne Shirley anime

For those that have watched the 2025 Anne Shirley anime

I am a huge fan of the book series, I’ve read all the books over and over, esp the first three. They are my comfort books. I’ve watched the 1985 mini series, the Netflix Anne with an E series, which I enjoyed, and the old anime from 1979. I really love the 2025 adaptation too, I think it’s a pretty anime and I love how beautifully they portrayed her friendship with Diana in this version. With that being said, I can’t decide if I should watch the anime series with my 5 year old. The only part I’m not too sure of is Ruby’s passing. Last year our elderly dog passed away and my little one still talks about it sometimes. I don’t think it hurts her anymore, but I do think experiencing death made an impact on her. I guess I was just really excited to show her how special the Anne series is and at first I thought this was the perfect introduction, until I saw that episode. I’d hate to skip it, as it is part of the series after all. Would you show the series to a 5 year old kid, or is her age not quite appropriate for this one yet?

Please help locate a storyline

Please help me bc it's bugging me. There's a subplot in one of Anne books about a single father and his young son who dies soon and I can't remember where.

Finished the series! Spoilers ahead!

Wow it was such a ride! Poor Dog Monday being left behind and Walter dying was heartbreaking. And the ending with Ken! 😍 I now understand why this series became an instant Canadian classic and is now my favorite.

The Sullivan Timeline Mess

The official Sullivan timeline surrounding The Continuing Story is a mess. The film opens up by stating it’s 1915, and we see crowds of men in uniform and Anne and Diana talk about the war, so this tracks. However, the official timeline given on the AOGG miniseries website states that it starts in 1911… literal years before the war starts.

The official timeline then claims Anne and Gilbert spend three years in New York before returning to Avonlea. Unlikely, given that Gilbert was supposed to stay on only for another year at the hospital in NY, and Gilbert leaves before the doctor who wants Gil to replace him permanently (and within the month) can have his way.

When Anne and Gil get married, Gil says they “waited five years for this” (ie getting married), however five years from 1907 (the year stated that Anne and Gil get engaged on the official timeline) is 1912, not 1914 as the official timeline states their marriage took place.

I know I’m not the best at it, but the math ain’t mathing.

ANNE WITH AN E

SPOILER

I lovee Anne with an e. I watched the show so many times and u just can’t get over it. The first time i watched it and found out that the fourth season was cancelled I was devastated. And soooo disappointed because there was so much more to find out. Like i wanted to know how the relationship between Anne and Gilbert will continue.I also wanted to see how Anne builds her career and if there were more information about her parents. Ofc i also would love to see the Storys of the side characters continue like kak‘wet story and Coles story.I just can’t explain why I love the show so much. It had such a great storyline and characters and i loved that the show showed Annes difficulties and how she overcame them and the character development of everyone.
Because i loved the Show so much I read the books. The books were really good too and i loved them. Now I don’t think i could choose between the books and the show. But it did make me sad when i found out that Kak‘wet and Coles story were not from the books because i loved those characters. I also found it kinda sad that after college Anne didn’t continue with her career. I mean it was really great seeing Anne as mother. I know she still wrote story’s sometimes in her free time in the book. But i imagined Anne, as a girl with great imagination and intelligence to strive a great career. I would have loved reading about how she became for example a teacher or a writer. I only read till book 6. I didn’t like how the show ended so rapidly and it was so rushed. I mourn season 4 every day😔.
Should I continue to read the other books?

Confused about Rachel moving in with Marilla

Why did Rachel give up the farm when her husband died? Her and Marilla were next-neighbours anyway so couldn't they have just supported eachother while living next door to eachother?

(I am in the middle of watching Anne of Avonlea and have not read the books)

Anne Shirley with green hair...

She was mortified of course at what happened but its kind of ironic that today having hair in different colors is considered fashionable to some people... Now, kids do it a lot..

Road to Avonlea on Crave

Hi!

For all Canadians on here, Crave now has seasons 1-4 of Road to Avonlea available for streaming since yesterday in French and English. A great to avoid the heatwave, the rain or the smoke depending where you are in the country 😂

Happy belated Canada Day!

Seeing myself in Anne

I’m currently reading Anne of Avonlea. I grew up watching the series, and read some of the books a long time ago.

I’m a freckled redhead, and my real name is a version of Anne in another language; I have a March birthday too. As a little kid, I didn’t love my red hair, but I grew to embrace it. I would get in trouble, be ornery, feel deeply and have a deep sense of fairness. But above all, I just wanted acceptance. My mom, bless her heart, was the complete opposite of me, and yet, like Anne and Marilla, our bond was so deep, and she shaped me in so many ways. Time went by, life went on; I kind of forgot about the books, even when I grew up to become a language arts and literature teacher.

Now, many years later, I read the Anne of Green Gables series, and I can’t help but see a younger me, and my “internal self” (the one only I know) in Anne. So many little things about Anne feel awfully familiar— how Anne takes on life, romanticizes it, is optimistic about it, sees the beauty in the most trivial and banal, and lets her imagination run wild. How she feels so intently, how she paved her own path in her life pursuits, how her friendships remained true through the years because she was a true friend.

So… with all this being said, I cannot be the only one. Are there kindred spirits in this sub, who have found tons of little coincidences between their lives and Anne’s, and see this fictional character be a little bit of you? Do tell! How do you see yourself in Anne, or Anne in you?

My friend embroidered this!

My friend made this for me for my birthday and I thought the people here would appreciate it. I'm sorry my camera sucks. They embroidered everything except the hair and hat. The hat is crocheted but using a needle and thread instead of a hook! And the hair is just thread which is plaited. I love it so much and I am going to sew a safety pin on the back so I can wear it as a pin instead of a patch. Because then I'd only be able to wear it on one item of clothing.

Also I posted on here ages ago for advice about what to bake for an Anne themed party and I don't think I ever updated you all bc I am an infrequent redditor. So here are some pics of the party!

The first pic is the food we had. I made a vanilla sponge cake with whipped cream and raspberry jam. I also made some cupcakes with lime Swiss meringue buttercream (I thought green in honour of Anne's hair but ran out of time to decorate them like her hair so let one of my friends just do whatever they wanted with the icing). And some chocolate macarons with chocolate icing (either French or Swiss meringue buttercream). The macarons did not macaron but they tasted great lol.

Second pic is the decor.

Third pic is my friends and I so you can see our outfits. The hearts over our faces are for privacy.

We had so much fun talking that we never actually got around to watching the movie 😅

The sad life of LM Montgomery

Do any of you feel deeply saddened by how difficult LM Montgomery's life was?

I made the mistake of trying to learn more about her as a person and now I kind of regret it in a way.

The thing is that I'm reading these books as a way of escaping reality. I have debilitating chronic health issues so I'm basically home bound.

I live vicariously through books and movies/TV shows

I feel like, alongside the Little Women book series, the Anne books have brought me the greatest comfort.

Now I'm starting to realize that in a way, maybe her own books were a sort of escapism for Maude too.

Just like they are to me. They have everything I crave. Happiness and wonder. Loving families, great friends, rewarding work, cozy homes, nature...now I realize that she probably created her ideal life on these pages, while I assumed that these books were very loosely based on her actual life (I know the first one was).

And while her suffering makes me feel more connected to her, I feel so sad for her. I feel heartbroken, really...as overdramatic as this might sound.

I'm sorry if this all doesn't sound very eloquent, English isn't my first language (though I am reading these books in English).

Age 37 and just discovered Anne

As stated in the title- discovering Anne well into adulthood. I only moved to North America going into middle school and somehow i missed this. I have to say I’ve been charmed. After reading the first book, I have now ordered the sequels on eBay.

Might even plan a trip to PEI one day 🤗

Not going to deny that I feel a little silly being so enthralled with a children’s book 🫣

Order of the series

So, the only books in this series I have read this far are Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, Anne of the Island, and Anne's House of Dreams. I've *just* found out that Anne of Windy Poplars comes before Anne's House of Dreams so I'm just like uh—anyways, I plan to get the other books I'm missing soon :)

Favourite LMM short stories?

I have a bunch of collections of Lucy Maud Montgomery's short stories (ie, At the Altar, Along the Shore, Chronicles of Avonlea, etc). I'm not big on short stories in general, but I love Montgomery's writing and I want to give them a go! Do you have any favourite stories or collections of stories?
