Is 200 mg/day of doxycycline too high for a 9 kg dog?

My 9 kg dog was diagnosed with ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis. She received Oxtra 5% (oxytetracycline) injections for 5 days, and now our vet prescribed doxycycline 100 mg twice daily (200 mg/day) for 24 days, plus 1½ tablet of Nexium (esomeprazole) 20 mg once daily for 7 days.

I see the commonly recommended doxycycline dose is around 10 mg/kg/day. Is 200 mg/day too high for a 9 kg dog, or is this dosage sometimes used for these infections?

Why do doctors prescribe antibiotics for flu from day 1?

I am always prescribed antibiotics from day 1 for flu. It is said that antibiotics are bad for gut and cause antibiotic resistance. We cannot question doctor's advice too. Afterall, they are right.

Flu is a viral fever. Secondary bacterial infections start later on. I find it unnecessary to prescribe antibiotics as it will affect patients' general health.

Does anyone have a single good experience with Bactrim?

It seems like nobody has and now I’m terrified because I’m about to take it. I’ve gone from macrobid, to amoxicillin to Cephalexin to now Bactrim for a UTI. I have to take it for 3 days but now I’m absolutely terrified.

Doxycycline & Alcohol

Is it that big of a deal to drink alcohol while on Doxycycline? I’m taking it for cellulitis if that matters. I see differing opinions online. Thank you.

Macrobid affected my muscles?

I’m 28 female currently on no medication, I got a uti the other week and was prescribed Macrobid 100mg, I took it for three days 1 in the morning 1 in the evening but I had such a bad reaction it made me so unwell I couldn’t take it anymore (stopped taking it the evening of the 1st of August), ended up going back to the doctors who told me I was fine to not take it anymore, I didn’t eat for four days and was throwing up whilst taking the medication so I was exhausted, going up the stairs made my muscles in my thighs burn it was awful but all last week I worked up building my energy back and thankfully at least eating and drinking and my energy is fine again, but I’ve noticed that my right knee was tingly a lot, and then suddenly I had a numb ish sensation in the area that didn’t go away (and still hasn’t I am still getting tingly too not always but quite often throughout the day) both of my legs my calf’s my thighs are so sore like I’ve done a hard workout when I’ve not even done anything at all, I’m really worried it’s damaged nerves in my legs? The pain started roughly Sunday and ever since it’s just getting more uncomfortable whenever I try to walk especially if I haven’t moved for a while it’s like they’re so stiff and sore, going downstairs hurts so much and I’m really worried, could macrobid have caused this? Did it damage my muscles or my nerves or something? Again I only have a tiny numb patch and tingle in one of my knees but both legs hurt even poking them the muscles sore and I’m starting to feel like the areas near my shoulders are hurting I’m getting stressed that it’s from the medication please help

keflex 1-week past abdo surgery

I went into emergency on Friday with lower left sided abdo pain. I’ve had constant low-grade fevers for a week, alongside diarrhea and nausea/vomiting.

The ER provider thought I had a uti from the Foley catheter used in my surgery mixed with sleeping too long during recovery (aka not peeing enough). He prescribed Keflex 400mg mg once a day for 10 days. I do not have a GP who could have prescribed this and I went to emerg as urgent care ordered a stat CT to rule out a surgical complication.

I’m on day 3 of the medication and I feel like shit. I’m not keeping food down, have diarrhea, terrible body aches and pains, my lymph noids are swollen, I go between sweating and chills, vertigo, jusy feeling disoriented and abdominal pain. I’m taking Tylenol 1 Q6hr, gravol 100mg Q4h, Robaxin q6h, and Celecoxib 100mg BID.

I heard Keflex has pretty strong side effects, but it’s used as a first line for infection when it’s uncomplicated.

I’m wondering if I’m having a reaction to the antibiotic. I could potentially get into urgent care tomorrow but I’d most likely go to ER tonight due to the lack of fluid and food intake I’ve been having. But before I do I want to see if I’m over reacting or if anyone has any recommendations/history with Keflex.

Low-grade fever returns 2 days after finishing antibiotic course for suspected strep

25F) in this past year had 4 strep infections (never this many before). No throat swabs, treated based on clinical presentation.

First treated with Z-pack (3 days), second 6.5mo later treated with clarithromycin, then 4.5mo later treated with penicillin and then 1.5mo later treated with clarithromycin for 3 days and amoxiclav for the remaining 7 days (to ensure suspected bacterial reservoir eradication).

Every time responsive to antibiotics.

The most recent time the symptoms were: very high fevers, white exudate but NO throat pain. Symptoms improved on ABs.

But then 2 days after finishing the course developed racing heart and low-grade fever. It's been this way for 2 days now. Fever does not climb as high as it was with strep.

Please help me understand this.

Metronidazole antibiotics (tablet) side affects are rough

I went to the dentist on Monday and was told I have an infection. Was prescribed metronidazole (15 tablets, one 3 times a day), but each day the side affects are getting stronger. I constantly feel sick which is stronger today. I have no appetite and when I do eat something small, the sickness feeling is worse. I have a metallic taste in my mouth that doesn't go away and earlier I gagged when tagging the tablet. I've also now started to feel cold like with a bunged up nose to boot.

I have a severe phobia about taking tablets, so the fact I gagged earlier is putting me off finishing the course, but I really can't. How are people dealing with the sickness feeling? Is there anything you're doing that makes it go away or reduces it?
