I ordered this cup holder off of Etsy and wanted to share my thoughts.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/4488722694/antic-bikes-cup-holder-and-cubby?ref=share_ios_native_control

Initial impressions

  • Nice price to value
  • Build quality is very strong
  • nice it fits a drink and my phone (even though it looks like the circle for a drink cuts into the phone area)
  • extra space in front good for car/house keys

Install

  • It wasn’t mentioned on Etsy (or I missed it) but I had to remove the two front screws from the seat so this could slide in.
  • This accessory doesn't screw in, it just snaps in securely
  • This accessory is very secure which means it took a lot of effort to actually make it snap in.

Bricked bike story and word of caution

I joined the bricked bike club instantly… I wanted to share my story and put in a plug for the “Antic Bike Owners” group over on Facebook. Lots of useful posts and nice people over there, and unfortunately, lots of stories of bricked / broken bikes- worth joining as an owner or someone considering one of these!

https://m.facebook.com/groups/1175324307868890/?ref=share&mibextid=wwXIfr

Also want to plug https://www.reddit.com/r/anticbike/s/UWh4yuB5PZ as a backup subreddit should this one ever get restricted again. This alternative sub is not moderated by anyone from FM so will remain independent.

Tl;dr - my bike had a throttle error (15 yellow flashes) right out of the box and a new throttle mostly bricked the bike which is now unresponsive. I am currently waiting on a response from Antic / FM.

Full version:

Writing this up in case it helps anyone else and will come back with updates as things progress.

My Antic bike was delivered by UPS - box had some damage / a big hole but the bike did not seem affected so I accepted the delivery.

Opened the box and put the bike together. Process was very straightforward and everything went smoothly. The bike was in perfect condition aside from some unfortunate scratches on the front fork that I was planning on just ignoring since it was only cosmetic. No other damage noted. I have to say that overall these bikes really look great.

Once the bike was assembled I powered it on and everything seemed fine. I took it on a test ride down the block and back (maybe 500 - 1000ft) and everything seemed normal aside from the throttle response seeming a little slow (sport mode), but that may also just be how it functions as I don’t have anything to compare to. Ended the test ride with the bike still showing 0 miles on the odometer.

Brought the bike inside at about 28% SOC and plugged in the charger. The bike stated to charge seemingly normally. After about 10 minutes, the light bar started flashing yellow, repeating a sequence of 15 yellow flashes, a pause, then the sequence would restart. I looked up the error code and it said related to the throttle, so I unplugged at about 40% SOC to troubleshoot. Upon pressing the power button, the bike would power on but would immediately go back to the 15 yellow flash error.

Started troubleshooting the throttle using Antic’s recommended steps and steps other users reported working, including:

- Checked over the whole throttle assembly from the seat connection up and found no evidence of damage in the throttle itself or the wire. The twist throttle felt normal and did not seem to be sticking, be too loose, etc.

- Checked the connections under the seat. None seemed loose or misaligned, but I carefully unplugged and reseated them to be sure.

- Powered on the bike while not touching the throttle or bike controls at all. Error still present.

- Powered on the bike holding the throttle with a little pressure towards the off / disengaged position to make sure it wasn’t slightly sticking. Error still present.

- Unplugged the throttle and let the bike sit unpowered for an hour. Plugged throttle in again and powered on. Error still present.

At this point I gave up and read guidance on the Antic website. I took the photos/videos they requested and sent in a support ticket with the details of the error and what I had already tried.

Next morning Antic got back to me fairly quickly with a canned message specific to the throttle error, which makes me think it’s a common issue. The canned message asked me to try the same steps I had already confirmed trying, and to send the photos I had already provided, which was a little annoying. The canned message did have a sentence that looked tacked on manually saying effectively “…we saw you already tried this, but make sure to try all the steps…” so it did appear someone read the details of my message and still sent a mostly canned response.

A few hours later I hear from Antic they are sending a new throttle assembly and believe that will clear the error. Sounded good so I thanked them and a couple of days later the throttle showed up and I installed it in a few minutes with no issue. It was very easy to replace and not an invasive process.

Powered on the bike to no error, so I happily put it back on the charger to get it to around 50 - 60% for another test ride (and to see what happens because the error showed up during charging the first time). About 10 minutes into charging, I get the yellow 15 flash sequence again. I go through the steps above again doublechecking the throttle connections and all that but found nothing.

Tried powering the bike back on again and only the headlight comes on. No light on the light bar at all. I tried plugging in the charger and again get no response at all. Since it was a Sunday, I emailed Antic again with all of these details knowing i wouldn’t hear back until Monday at best.

It’s now Monday and has been about 24 hours and I don’t yet have a response from Antic. I am really hoping they agree to just exchange the broken bike for an entirely new unit although I know they most likely won’t. I understand the cost efficiency perspective of still trying to troubleshoot remotely / ship single parts, but for $3,000 it’s ridiculous to expect the consumer to now be your tech person and spend hours of their own time disassembling and risking something else breaking. It really doesn’t sit well with me having to take apart major components of a BRAND NEW $3,000 piece of tech. The warranty is already limited enough, I am sure that having things disassembled by the consumer, having serial numbers mismatched on the bike compared to what originally shipped, etc., is NOT going to help should I need to make a warranty claim later. I could even see them trying to say the repairs voided the warranty.

Anyways, I will update as soon as anything else happens. In the meantime, i’d be curious how anyone else was able to resolve a similar error.

LR+ owners- are the performance tires worth it?

I know for sure I want the long range. But not sure if I need the softer tires. Anyone here that can speak on the difference? Haven’t seen any reviews talk about it much yet.
