My grandma gave me this FMS Westminster wall clock, how old is it?
Here's what I've gathered from about an hour of looking online and what she told me about it herself. The clock was purchased in Germany in the late 1960s from an antique store. She's kept it since then and it hasn't run since the mid 1980s. I'm shocked it ran at all when I tried to start it myself, but it usually goes for a few minutes then dies. I took it to a local clock repairman who lives in my area. He told me he thinks it's at the very youngest from the 1950s.
Here's what the internet has told me so far: FMS is the manufacturer of this clock; they made a whole array of clocks including this one which has a Westminster chime. It's got 42/105 stamped on the back which I understand to mean it's a 42cm case with a 105bpm pendulum. There's likely no way to ever know what the serial number on the back means since as far as I'm aware there's no known records kept. The eagle crest on the face began being used by FMS in 1925, changing styles over the years... BUT! other sources I've seen like a post made on the NAWCC forums say the logo on this clock face is as old as 1914.
I'm curious to see what you all think about this piece. Maybe I am overlooking a key detail about this clock, maybe it was actually the Kaiser's third cousin's ex-girlfriend's little brother's clock, or you just know something cool about it that I don't. I'm really excited to have it in my home.
