🌒 Eclipse Check-In: What Are You Starting to See?
Notes Before We Begin
Method note: This post uses tropical astrology and Whole Sign houses in the Arcasts section. I’m looking at the eclipse degrees through natal houses and aspects, with Sabian Symbols added as another layer of interpretation.
Following along with your chart: Check where 20° Leo, 27° Leo/Scorpio, and 4° Pisces/Virgo fall by house and whether you have natal placements near those degrees.

🌑 Where this eclipse began
The August 12 eclipse happened at 20°06′ Leo.
Because Sabian Symbols count 0°–1° as the first degree, that puts the eclipse on Leo 21:
“Intoxicated chickens dizzily flap their wings trying to fly.”
I keep seeing the chicken as needing a kind of enlightened state to fly. I know that sounds dramatic, but it fits the theme of this post. Flying takes awareness, control, experience, and enough steadiness for your whole system to work together.
The chicken already knows how to be a chicken. That grounded, even state is what everyone expects from it (relatively, I know we have some crazy chickens out there hahaha). So once it gets drunk and starts flapping around wildly, suddenly its failure to stay in that expected state looks almost immoral, like it chose to become less capable than the version of itself everyone already knows.
🌓 And now we reach the square
Tonight, August 19, the Moon reaches its First Quarter square to the Sun at about 9:46 PM Central, with both bodies around 27°08′ of their signs. The Sun is in Leo. The Moon is in Scorpio. Both are fixed, so there is persistence here. There is also friction between what remains constant and what is happening underneath.
The Sun is now on Leo 28: “Many little birds on the limb of a large tree.”
The Moon is on Scorpio 28: “The king of the fairies approaching his domain.”
We went from chickens frantically trying to fly... to many birds occupying a tree squaring a king aware of his deepest needs.
I see the birds as the resources of the collective mind. Once you can enlighten your perception enough to see the whole tree while still recognizing the individual birds, suddenly there are choices everywhere. Different ideas, different people, different paths, different ways of responding. The drunken chicken was caught inside one experience and trying to force its body through it. These birds can actually see the environment they are part of.
Then the Scorpio Moon brings in the king approaching his domain. To me, that feels like awareness of the inner world becoming strong enough to guide those outer choices. You know what you need, so you can look at all the birds on the tree and decide which ones belong in your world.
That is where I feel the square. Leo shows all the possibilities available to the individual through the collective pause of the mind, while Scorpio asks which possibilities actually serve the private emotional reality underneath. The tension brings awareness to the many ways you can participate, helping you shape a world around you that better reflects your deepest needs.
🌕 Where this eclipse window is heading
On August 28, the lunar eclipse reaches about 4°51′ Pisces/Virgo, bringing us to
Pisces 5: “A church bazaar” and Virgo 5: “A man dreaming of fairies.”
We are getting another fairy symbol after tonight’s Scorpio Moon shows us the king of the fairies approaching his domain. By the lunar eclipse, the Pisces Moon at the church bazaar has entered a shared spiritual space, interacting with others through exchange and community. I read that as the Moon finding regulation through participation, where connection with other people gives our inner world somewhere cohesive to go and helps contain the more decadent or scattered tendencies of the mind.
Across from it, the Virgo Sun dreaming of fairies feels like the root system underneath that experience. Virgo gives language and definition to what Pisces is collectively feeling, helping us name the patterns we are noticing and understand the shared expectations shaping everyone inside the group. The Moon lives the collective experience while the Sun helps us recognize what that experience actually is.

I spent the first part of this eclipse window with Todd and my brother, Mitchell, in Seattle while Mars moved through Cancer in my 12th house toward my Cancer South Node. I’ve often connected that South Node with the enmeshment I feel with my family, so having Mars activate it while I was staying with my brother felt on the nose. Mitchell’s Cancer Sun also falls in my 12th and opposes my Mercury-Neptune in the 6th, while his Neptune sits on my Mars-North Node there, so being together naturally pulls on that whole 12th/6th axis for me.
Mars appeared through Todd and Mitchell being very aware of my energy and wanting to help me settle into the Cancer side of things. My Capricorn Mars knows how to function and meet expectations, while Cancer in the 12th needs protection and room to retreat. Mars ruling my 4th and 9th also fits traveling far from home to stay with family while thinking about safety.
All this safety has allowed my mind to wander...
I’ve been thinking a lot about enlightenment during this eclipse window—by which I mean the expectation that a person can understand themselves well enough to regulate their behavior and live peacefully with others. Enlightenment philosophy placed a lot of importance on reason and self-governance, and I keep thinking about how easily an ability can become a moral expectation once society organizes itself around people who can reliably access it.
I can get overwhelmed so dang easily, and when enough builds up I can melt down fast or slip into psychotic states. The people closest to me know the protocols that help me stay grounded or come back when my brain moves somewhere else. Living with that has taught me how much human behavior depends on what the brain can actually access in a given moment. There are states where awareness or perception changes and the ability to participate in society the way everyone expects changes with it.
A lot of our social rules make sense from inside a brain that can stay connected to shared reality and control its reactions. My brain has shown me what happens when those abilities become harder to access, and suddenly the expectation itself looks different. A person can be suffering inside a reality that feels completely real to them while the outside world mainly sees whether they behaved correctly. Drunken chickens. That gap is where this idea of a Sun society started making sense to me.
The Sun gives us an image of constancy, and I spent the first twenty years of my life feeling like I had to maintain that same steady state. Saturn in my 7th house out of sect puts a lot of weight on other people's expectations, while Mars conjunct my North Node in Capricorn in the 6th gives me a huge ability to push toward whatever seems required. Then this eclipse comes along and pulls on MC, Pluto and Mercury-Neptune, and now I am looking at the structure underneath that past way of living.
I have a night chart, so the Moon is my sect light. Its fullness changes within one continuous cycle, and that has become an important model for how I understand my own capacity. I spent years forcing myself toward constant regulation until I met Todd in 2011, and he slowly introduced me to a life with more room for the night. By 2019, as Uranus entered my 10th house, my life had settled into into that rhythm, and my Saturn return in 2021 helped solidify it. I finally had space to rest and actually find my Moon.
I have been living in that Saturn-Return-Night for almost seven years, exploring the stars and attaching every transit and lunation to my own experiences and choices.
But when Saturn moved out of my 8th-house-Pisces-dream and entered my broarder-9th-house-Aries-beleifs, a dawn began breaking. Last year I started coming back out through astrology on Reddit. I found all of you and started doing readings publicly, giving my huge 6th-house emphasis somewhere meaningful to go. With Mercury ruling my 11th-house profection year, that daily observation now moves directly into community, while the almost exact eclipse trine to my Aries MC feels like my public direction growing out of something I spent years learning privately.
I feel like I am entering a kind of day after years of living in the night. That long period of rest gave me enough distance to finally see where my self-regulation struggles actually are, along with a much better understanding of my disability and what my brain needs to function.
I may never function according to a traditional working rhythm, but doing these readings on Reddit is teaching me how to hold both the day and the night. I am learning how much rest I need in order to return to the light with some consistency, which feels like learning a rhythm I was never able to build earlier in life. I can already feel the themes of my upcoming 12th-house profection year beginning to emerge.
The eclipse began with chickens desperately trying to fly while being judged for their choices, and tonight we reach the birds gathered in the tree while the Scorpio Moon approaches its domain. Now we can start recognizing what is available around us and choosing what actually supports our needs.
My awareness is blooming through the tension of the stars. 🌙

I’m back from my trip to Seattle with my brother! Thank you so much to everyone who left sweet wishes while I was gone. I really appreciated seeing them. I’m organizing all my notifications today since my brain is still a little fried from traveling, so Arcwalks will start up again tomorrow. I can't wait to run around the skies again!
