1. This weekend I'm going to paint my very first models - the ones that came with the Gamemaster Warpaint Fanatics set. (And maybe also some models I 3D printed earlier in the week) Since I have no idea if I'm going to enjoy this hobby or hate it, I haven't spent any money to get a wet palette. The Army Painter instructions say if you don't have one you can add a drop of water. So:

a. Do they literally mean a drop? How much am I thinning the paint?

b. When I saw their video of the wet palette they sell, it looks like wet foam with a piece of paper on top. Could I substitute a damp paper towel as my wet palette?

2. When using the Fanatics line (as opposed to speedpaint 2.0) how long do you typically wait between layers? A quick google search said painted on primer takes 10-15 minutes to set. Do you wait 10ish minutes between primer and base coat? How about base coat to detailing? Finally, how long before adding the wash? When I watch YT videos of people painting their minis I'm unsure if whether they're using edit cuts or just going straight from primer to base to details.
