Stone pony this week
I’m going to the stone pony summer stage tomorrow to see the fray. Tickets say 5:30, but I think there’s an opener I’d rather miss, and then Dashboard Confessional, and finally The Fray.
When I bought the tickets I didn’t realize it’s standing only for several hours on blacktop (I thought it was more like pnc lawn with blankets or renting chairs - nope!)
What time would you arrive in order to see DC and The Fray (and eliminate standing beforehand)?
Do you think it’s a good assumption that the opener will be at 5:30, placing DC around 6:30/7? And The Fray around 8?
Recs for a visitor
I know I know, yall get these all the time. But I’d really appreciate any recs for someone coming in town for a Stone Pony show. Google just isn’t helpful anymore! I’m staying very close to the venue and would love coffee shop, dinner, and late night recommendations. Not necessarily fancy, just your favorites. It will also be Labor Day weekend so I’m not sure if that will affect where yall would suggest. Thank you!!! Excited for my first time in NJ <3
Where do people in their 20s make friends around here?

northjersey.comLooking for local perspective on townhome purchase in Avon-By-The-Sea.
Hello and TIA for your local perspective!
Our family has been vacationing in the Bradley Beach/Avon-By-The-Sea area for decades now and we are getting serious about purchasing a property. We know beach block homes are enormously out of reach financially and are working with a budget in the ballpark of $1-1.5m. We have been touring and are seriously considering a new townhome development being built on Main Street right at the Avon/Bradley beach border, it has a view of Sylvan Lake. We are aware there are pros and cons to this type of purchase, and I'm curious to hear your own pros and cons as locals. Like, am I going to smell the Nylabone factory? Is this area near the tracks secretly sketchy? What are we missing? Thank you!!
Pros:
- New build, can customize, will avoid problems with the many century+ homes in the area
- Not in a flood zone, flood insurance not needed
- Comes with an EV golf cart
- View is of the lake and surrounding homes, nice "porch"
- Right size and price for our family, the new build means many comfortable amenities not found in other homes
- Walkable to Main street restaurants/cafes
Cons:
- Not beach "walkable", but certainly bike/golf-cartable.
- Train is literally right behind home. Developer insists soundproofing is strong and invited us to be in the home when the train passes.
- Avon seems to have some kind of DPW/beach storage facility nearby, we can't tell if this will be disruptive or not.
- Run down warehouses to the right are supposedly purchased and also becoming townhomes, but for now are an eyesore. Large cell phone (?) tower to the left.
- Main street right in front of you and no real yard- may be concerning with small kids? Nowhere to play outside.
- No outdoor shower, which is a beach luxury I love.

Who’s your go-to? Looking for a male therapist. Thanks in advance!
Meh food with a great view at Lili
While Lili had some impressive dishes, on the whole the eatery isn’t memorable enough to become a destination on the busy Asbury Park boardwalk. The menu does offer plenty of options, making it an easy choice for groups with different tastes and cravings. Unfortunately, most of those options are lackluster.
Stolen bike - 8th Ave
Hi all,
My wife’s bike was stolen today (8/13) between 430-530pm on 8th Ave. If anyone sees it, please DM me. Thank you!
Edit: A police report has been filed
Edit 2: bike was found. The thief sold it to someone in OG
Small-ish event space?
Hi everyone! I am looking for a small-medium sized event space for my father in laws 65th birthday.
Ideally, we would love to be able to use some sort of gallery space as he has collected various art pieces over the course of his life and we would like to showcase some of his collection. The event could also be used as an opportunity for the gallery itself to show some of their works as well.
About 50-60 ppl and we were hoping to have catering for apps/small bites/bar situation.
Thanks in advance!
An Asbury Park love story
We went to the Spin Doctors/Gin Blossoms/Blues Traveler concert at the Stone Pony on Thurs- It was over 90 degrees, absolutely packed and standing room only but we were in the front, right up against the stage so at least we had some air. ~4500 people packed in the summer stage lot, shoulder to shoulder. It was insanity and the energy was just perfect. The event was great, all 3 acts 5 feet from us! We danced, we sang, we yelled like teenagers.
We stood there for 5 and a half hours and didn't move for fear of losing our once-in-a-lifetime spot, against the barricade. I was a little worried about standing that long because I am, ahem, a bit older, 63, but I felt fine!
Then suddenly, during the very last song of the night, I woke up on the asphalt with a big crowd of people looking down at me. Took me a moment to understand that I passed out! Here's where the love is: So many people were all taking care of me, supporting me, helping me find my glasses and making sure I was ok. Some absolute angel held my head, talked to me and poured cold water on my scalp and it felt SO good. I wish I knew who she was so I could thank her! The EMT crew picked me up and wheeled me to the first aid tent. The dense crowd parted for me like the Red Sea and they all clapped and shouted supportive messages. God I love NJ. We are natives but now live in New England, but I really do miss the vibe.
I am totally fine, by the way. Just got dehydrated and didn’t have anything to eat beforehand. Totally my fault.
It's not a great party until someone leaves on a stretcher, right? I do feel like I have more street cred now. I should have a T-shirt, "I passed out at the Stone Pony".
A gym I can go to for a week
Hey everyone ! This will be my second trip to the Shore and I’m in love with AP. I workout regularly at home and want to feel my best when visiting. I’m looking for a gym that can give me a day pass or week pass. I don’t need anything fancy—just machines and weights—but open to something higher end too. Any suggestions? Thank you!
Backpack with baby carrier
I know this is a long shot. But my wife and I brought our daughter for the first time to the dog beach on Saturday evening. In the chaos of packing everything up and leaving, we left behind a blue north face backpack with our baby carrier in it among a dog leave, water bottle and toy. What’s the chances of us finding it there :(
When do Stone Pony performers go on in relative to the start time that’s listed?
I will make it to The Fray at The Stone Pony at all costs next week, but I wouldn’t be able to make it after work until 6:30 :/ the start time is listed as 5:30, will I still be able to see their whole set?🙏
Good spots to watch perseid meteor shower?
Willing to drive out a bit
House of Independents - Bringing in water
Hey everyone, I’ve been eyeing a show at House of Independents soon and wanted to know how strict security is at the door lately. Never been to the venue before. I know on their site it says outside drinks are technically banned, but I get dehydrated quite easily and I always carry a metal water bottle in my bag when I'm outside. Does anyone know if security will let me bring it in or maybe even just a completely empty reusable water bottle to fill up inside? Or will they make me throw it out at the bag check?
window AC unit
what’s the best place in town to find a cheap window AC unit?
I love you, Asbury Park!
I visited your fair city for the first time in about 20 years and what you have done with it is just astounding.
I hope that casino and the carousel are going to be restored in the same manner as the Convention Hall. The carousel building is just so gorgeous it brings a tear to my eye, for real.
