Kilts among the young

I have been reading several articles, talking about how Prince William unlike his father the King, is almost never seen wearing a kilt while in Scotland. I am curious does that reflect the general attitude of people his age in Scotland? I.e. outside of people that wear it as part of their uniform or on special occasions like a wedding. How prevalent is kilt wearing in everyday life for men in their thirties or forties?
