Hi, I'm a Kannadiga from Kasaragod ( which is in Kerala, right next to the border of K'taka) which just like Belgaum was part of Karnataka's border dispute. However, looking up the details from the census online I see that in Belgaum city the percentage of Marathi and Kannada speakers looks quite alike ! So I have a few questions,

(1) What's the default language of the city? Like, in a scenario where you meet someone new whom you do not know do you start speaking to them in Marathi or Kannada ?

(2) Since it's a border region, I'm guessing that there's a lot of Kannada speakers who know Marathi and Marathi speak who know kannada... Is it more likely for a native marathi speaker to know kannada or for a native kannada speaker to know Marathi ?

(3) Is code-switching common ? Like do people switch between Marathi and Kannada in one sentence ? Do people from Maharashtra find the Marathi from Belgaum weird ?

Any good tiffin services with both lunch and dinner delivering near sadashiv nagar? Price doesnt matter as long as its good quality.
