"Your Best Nightmare" intro riff is the basis for some motifs we hear throughout the game

Not directly an Asriel knight theory, but it's asriel knight flavored and certainly makes me confident he will have a significant place in the story, and imo it provides proof for AsrielKnight.

"Roots" is something a lot of the theorizing community has been speculating about since chapter 3 and 4. What none of them ever mention is that the "roots" motif in Digital Roots and Bit Roots, is a version/modification of the intro riff to Your Best Nightmare. It plays in two of the most mysterious locations in the game - Queen's basement before Spamton's fight, and the manhole dungeon before we fight the shadow mantle boss. It also seems to just be a part of a song, and is repeated over and over in its uses, similar to the intro riff to "Your Best Nightmare".

There's also a major key version of the riff - the Dark Truth motif. It appears first when Ralsei explains the nature of dark worlds, but is also in Neverending Night (ch4 credits theme), and notably plays while the knight is attacking the fun gang with walls of swords at the end of chapter 4.

I'm not sure how to explain the similarities here in a way understandable to everyone, and feel like to even people who don't read sheet music there are visible similarities, so I've highlighted the notes present in the "best nightmare" motif with a color corresponding to a same note, so hopefully people who don't read notation can understand. I've tried to use color similarity to portray musical similarity. For instance if there's an interval that's similar but not the same, the color will be slightly different. I've linked all these songs in the body as well so you can listen.

Overall, I'd say there is absolutely no doubt in my mind these are all directly based off of Your Best Nightmare. The major differences are Bit Roots and Digital Roots having some extra notes and ending on a perfect 5th instead of a major 3rd, and Dark Truth being in a major key and ending on a major sixth.

Susie's battle theme features a similar riff, but it changes significantly in the riff's second half. Like the Omega Flowey fight, Susie has a pre-battle intro featuring the riff (You Idiot/Imminent Death), then a full battle theme (Your Best Nightmare/Vs Susie). Her using this makes sense - her character parallels Asriel in a lot of ways. Asriel also readily accepts "lower realities" as real, praying for forgiveness after killing Yoshi, and like Flowey, Susie says she viewed herself as a "broken toy". There are certainly more parallels I won't get into here but, imo comparison and contrast to Susie's beliefs and motivations is an important aspect of an antagonist in this story, and her having a motif similar to Asriel's calls to mind these comparisons with him in particular.

Asriel's potential role in chapter 6

after the newsletter dropped i couldnt get the idea of asriels role in chapter 6 out of my head, i think its fair to assume that chapter 6 will take place in the holiday anor making it the perfect oppurtunity for dess lore, and who else do we know that was extremely close to dess? asriel, meaning that this chapter is also the perfect time for him to show up (along with the fact that noelle is very likely going to play a huge role in this chapter, giving us the trio of kris noelle and asriel along with the mystery involving dess) regarding his potential role i do deftinetley think hell initially show up and will js be introduced as kris brother, with susie having one of those momments like, "woah dude, thats your brother?" i think that throughout the chapter he will be giving us some bread crumbs of lore, and obviously this wouldnt be on the asriel knight subreddit if i dont include the fact that the big reveal for who the knight is will probably also be in chapter 6, leaving room for chapter 7 to finally conclude all of the other mysteries of game.

Wouldn’t Asriel also know where extra house key is hidden?

Also, he has ice-e body spray while Dess has no ice-e merch. If there’s a link between ice-e & the Knight, then it further indicates that the Knight is him instead of her.

Convince me dess is the knight

I'm a dessknighter, and this sub appeared on my feed. Asriel meets one of the criteria i have to consider a knight theory, so $$$$ it, convince me asriel's the knight

If Asriel is the Knight, think about how it recontextualizes many parts of the story

This confrontation becomes one between a good version of Flowey & an antagonistic version of Asriel.

Everyone loves Asriel-Knight all the sudden... but why?

I've been a huge advocate for AsrielKnight since late 2025, so much so that I've been able to help shape and build upon dedicated communities for the theory. This is all in contrast to how much raw, unfiltered HATE people used to receive for daring to even suggest Asriel could be the Knight's true identity. The mountains of evidence, the thematic parallels, the story potential... none of it mattered to those loud groups in mainstream Deltarune corners. In my opinion it's because the theory was threatening to Dess/CarolKnight agendas (other theorists were usually cool to us). I could go on and on about how hard it was before Chapter 5, but that was then.

But now, after Chapter 5... everyone loves it???

This is very strange to me, Asriel wasn't super relevant to the chapter despite everyone expecting him to be at the festival. He did get mentioned a lot, and those moments certainly made the theory stronger (Toriel wanting to surprise him early at his college, a common setup for a twist where someone's not where they're supposed to be), but was it really enough to change the general consensus of AsrielKnight being a "misogynistic crack theory"? Perhaps it was Device Theory getting confirmed that helped popularize it, that would mean Asriel's college doesn't even exist and he's either lying or (somehow) dead. But even still, this feels so random...

I should be more happy about this, we're finally getting the respect and consideration we deserve. There's AzzyKnight videos left and right on YouTube, a ton of Non-DessKnight focused tier lists have him way at the top, etc etc. Though, I can't help but feel frustrated that everyone who once hated the theory is just pretending they didn't act awful and degrading to us for so long. Are we just gonna sweep it under the rug, and go along with revisionist history like they always were for the theory? Like we weren't harassed and bullied out of the mainstream into obscure corners like this one?

I did see this type of switch-up coming, just not so suddenly and out of left field. I don't know how to feel about it all, especially since they've now shifted their targeted hatred onto KriselleKnight and those who believe that theory. No one has learned anything, no one is apologizing, we're just moving forward like this is the new normal. What exactly am I missing, and how do you guys feel about this?
