Just to be clear, I love Volpe and Paola... but I have often wondered:

If Achilles and three of Connor's recruits were able to rescue Connor from an execution and Volpe and Paola were willing to help Ezio rally the people against Savonarola, where were they when two members of their brotherhood and a third Auditore were about to be executed.

It's not like Paola didn't know what was going on. Her sister Annetta was the Auditore's maid and she was specifcally instructed by Giovanni to take Claudia and Maria to Paola if the Auditore house was compromised.
