Ported Linux to the Jaguar

Hi everyone!

I’ve spent a full week trying to bringup Linux on the Jaguar; so far it boots to a shell but you can’t really control it in any other way other than physically attaching to the Jerry TXD/RXD pins using a USB-to-TTL board.

I was thinking of maybe doing something that converts a PS/2 keyboard to the Joypad port and making a simple protocol inbetween so we can get it to behave nicely, but that’ll come later on.

I’ve written a small blog post detailing the in’s and out’s I found myself in when doing the bringup; it’s offers no value other than a technical demonstration but I figured someone may find it interesting.

Thanks everyone!

My collection thus far, anything I should get?

Started my Jaguar collecting on March 1st this year and this I what I have so far, I’m waiting on ruiner pinball to arrive and I’m on the hunt for a clean copy of super burnout. Is there any must haves you think I’m missing?

Skyhammer is an impressive title! (Photo doesn’t do it justice bc I’m using RF - my Jag AV cable went out on me) But it’s rare and expensive unless you have a GameDrive.

I’m in, my sealed Jaguar

Found sealed, I've been looking for it for a long time. Finally my sealed Atari Jaguar ❤️

Two DVDs containing archived Jaguar stuff

Got these two discs today and they contain a lot of stuff. I will be archiving them and putting them up on Archive soon. Anyone know anything about these? Most of the dates of the folders are from 2024.

Why all the hate for Trevor McFur? …I find it to be a competent shmup (nothing groundbreaking, but not nearly as bad as ppl say)

This was a game I avoided as a kid after being burned by Club Drive (the box fooled me), so I stayed away from this one after that bc of the reviews.

However now, as an adult, I grabbed a GameDrive and am able to finally play it on original hardware (the way I like to play retro games, emulated on a flash card or not).

I find that while it’s not the greatest title in the Jag library, and it’s definitely not in the top 10-15 games, but it’s definitely not near the bottom either.

By bottom-of-the -barrel Jaguar games, I mean titles like the aforementioned Club Drive, and Fight for Life, plus several others that are either awful, unplayable or a combination of both.

With Trevor McFur, maybe the hate it gets can be explained by its pace being a bit slower in pace than most shmups and there’s not a ton of enemy variety.

The graphics are also not half-bad and it’s so satisfying to shoot those asteroids (which have an almost 2.5D feel, as well as the enemy spaceships which look great as well).

Overall, the graphics are actually very good for the Jaguar and for the time it was released (1993) and I think it’s the type of pseudo-2.5D that the Jag does very well, as opposed to 3D…which it only seems to do well when it comes to FPS games, at least in its limited library (which was cut WAYY too short).

But overall, this one is decent. Anyone else think so?

EDIT: Also, the characters are bizarre and don’t make any sense. Like why is Trevor a Space Lion? (or Tiger or whatever he’s supposed to be) lol.

What’s the best current HDMI setup?

Was thinking about picking up a Jaguar after having one when they were first out. What’s the best way to play it on my current TV? Scart cable from Jaguar to RetroTINK 5x to HDMI?

Value determination

Purchased this cart as part of a lot a few months back and was originally going to keep it. Decided to stick with retail release only. Any idea what this is worth? No recent sold comps and the only one currently listed is slightly different looking. It does play and is working.
