Moving to Athens for a shipping company role — living tips with wife + dog?

Hi all,

I'm Korean, considering an IT engineer role
at a shipping company in Voula. Moving with
my wife and our dog.

A few honest questions from those who've
lived there:

  1. What areas are good for a young couple +
  2. small dog? (Voula, Glyfada, Ano Glyfada are on my radar)
  3. What's the realistic monthly cost of living for a family of two?
  4. How is daily life for foreigners in Athens?

Any insights appreciated — thanks!

Freenow App Perfect For Greek Taxi Service

I’ve been in Athens for several days and while I’ve been using the Welcome app for airport/hotel transfers, I started using the Freenow app for short duration taxi rides around the city.
I’ve seen posts where there’s concerns about fare gouging with taxis, but Freenow posts a set rate for pickup and destination, no hidden charges and you pay upfront. So far with multiple rides done, no issues. Better yet, no tipping unless you choose to do so.

Vegan travel tips for Athens

Kalimera/Hello,

I will be travelling from Canada to visit Greece and then Turkey this August. I am planning to spend 5-6 days in Athens and then fly to Istanbul.

I would rather spend money on experiences than hotels, so if you have any budget friendly travel tips, let me know! Also, feel free to drop in vegan travel hacks too 😀

Lastly, if someone can help me find other vegans (activist or otherwise - just any vegan group), that would be great because Facebook & MeetUp groups seem to be dead/inactive.

Thanks!

Non museum things to do

Hey everyone
Not sure if this is the right place for this post,

I’m visiting Athens in August to visit my close friend but she is from a different part of Greece and doesn’t live in Athens, so we are wondering what are the unique non museum/acropolis things to do.

I like being by the sea mostly and want to spend the day time lounging but I’m willing to sacrifice a day or two to roam around the city 😝and find non touristy activities.

Google isn’t really much of a help since everything is catered to mythology/historic tours 😅.

Any and all suggestions are welcome 😁

Concerta 18

Hello!
I have a prescription for Concerta 18mg, is there anyone who knows which pharmacy sells it? I have been to all the pharmacies in my neighbourhood and they all say it’s in έλλειψη… is there a website maybe that shows which pharmacy would have it in stock ?
Thank you!

Staying in Omonia as 19F solo?

Hello! I needed some quick advice about what I’ve discovered may be a predicament in my summer plans. I’m volunteering in Athens this summer and will be staying in Omonia during the duration of my stay (my volunteer accommodations are provided for me there). It was only upon further research that I discovered that apparently this neighborhood doesn’t have the best reputation? I wish I didn’t have to be concerned about this but I’m a small 19 year old female alone abroad and I wanted to know if this neighborhood is truly bad enough to warrant me moving locations.

Would y’all say it is or is it more of a “keep your wits about you” location (which honestly, any place is when traveling alone I’d argue).

Are you rich and lonely in Athens?

Hi wonderful Athenians,

If you identify as rich and lonely and / or bored in Athens, this might interest you:

I am heading to Athens in a week, and have identified a 2-star Michelin restaurant I'd love to visit: Delta ❤️

There is only one problem: The 12-course menu with wine pairing costs €460 per person, and I can best be described as lower-middle class 😱

I am therefore looking for an individual in the city with more money than sense - and more money than friends - who'd like to sponsor me and bring me to this restaurant!

You might think this is a 'sugarbabe' ad, but not at all: I am a very average-looking, 33-year old male backpacker with beer belly.

So what would you get out of it? Apart from having an amazing culinary experience, your company (me) is an entertaining and interesting character, and I can take great photos of you enjoying the upper-class life.

Hey, if you are rich and lonely and happen to be an attractive female - you might even get (un)lucky!

Slide into my DMs - but be fast, as I expect my inbox to blow up!

Let me know αν ξέρετε κάποιο μέρος.

Deposit payment

Looking to buy an apartment here in Athens. Seller is requesting for a 50k deposit to be sent directly to their account during the initial contracting phase. I already know this amount is ridiculous and exposes the buyer to serious risks.

What is the standard process here, specifically when the real estate agent is not willing or perhaps legally unable to hold the funds until the transaction concludes?

Πόσα βγάζει ΚΑΘΑΡΑ την εβδομάδα ένας οδηγός Bolt (που δεν έχει δικό του συμβατό αυτοκίνητο);

ΥΓ: Αν μπορώ ως ιδιώτης να αγοράσω συμβατό αυτοκίνητο (και αυτό είναι μεγάλο "αν" που δεν ξέρω αν ισχύει), έχω να δώσω μέχρι €20000-25000, οπότε σε αυτή την περίπτωση κάποιος οδηγός Bolt με δικό του συμβατό αυτοκίνητο, πόσα βγάζει την εβδομάδα;
