Truthear Pure - Quick Review/Impression

I had the opportunity to use the Truthear Pure for a while.

I tested these on my Tempotec March III DAC/AMP and with TRI Clarion eartips.

Huge thanks to u/cyberbot117 for sending these in for review.

Let's begin.

Packaging, Comfort & Fit:

  • The included cable is nice and you get a decent number of ear tips in the box as well. Overall good package and unboxing experience.
  • The here is fine and comfort here is not great. Now it does depend a lot on ones ear but yeah for me the comfort was just average.

Overall Sound:

  • The sound signature of Pure is neutral warm.
  • The warmth doesn't bloat or muddy the mids. You can listen to this for long hours because of the warmth and non-offensive treble.
  • Even though this is a neutral IEM, it sounds a lot more lively and musical compared to its predecessor, the Truthear Hexa, probably because of the added warmth and bass.

Bass:

  • Talking about bass. The bass here is more mid-bass dominant. The quality of the mid-bass is great and the quanity is decent as well. It has a good slam and impact to it coupled with slight texture in the mid-bass.
  • The rumble is there but it's less noticeable because the sub-bass is lesser than tha mid-bass. The speed of the bass is towards the sluggish side, the decay is low and the bass lingers for a while which can be a good thing on some tracks but not so much on others. Overall good bass.

Mids:

  • In the midrange both the vocals and instruments have a nice touch of warmth to them. The mids here carry a decent amount of weight and body. The positioning of the mids is balanced, they feel adequately forward but not so much that we can wall this a mid-centric IEM and they don't feel recessed as well so positioned very balanced in the mix.
  • Vocals sound warm and smooth. The instruments sound really nice, the tonality and timbre is lively and musical. Instrument separation here is decent. Overall good mids.

Treble:

  • The treble is relaxed and non-offensive. So not a sparkly treble and the treble extension is not great. That's why the overall airiness in the sound signature feels lacking and the sounds feel like it's closed off, band band lgti hai. In the mids the vocals are effected by this as well and the overall details also take a hit because of the lack of treble extension.
  • Avg details here. But this all is to be expected considering the type of tuning truthear was going for here. For someone who's looking for a safe treble, this can be a good pick because the treble on these doesn't get sibilant or harsh unless you crank up the volume way too high. Overall average treble here.

Technicalities:

  • Soundstage on these is good. It has good width to it and I would say is better than average at this price point. The depth though feels a bit lacking.
  • Imaging and layering are decent.

Final thoughts:

Overall, I think Pure is a decent set, especially for people who prefer a neutral sound signature. It delivers that with added musicality and non-offensive treble.

iems for gaming n music

I'm switching from these bloody headphones to iems and I don't have much info on them I mainly want iems which are easy to wear and won't hear in ear even after 1 or 2 hours of gaming and I don't need mic already got dedicated one (if no mic option saves me money)

accurate footsteps and bullets sound in games like CS Valorant of pubg pc

music is like sometimes

I guess 70% gaming and 30% focus on music

budget is 8-9k

I was considering 7hz crinacle zero 2 but I don't know if it's a good pick or not

Do I need stuff like dac and other things 🫪idk much

there's no type c port in my pc

So what are you rocking today?

The TRN mag case is on the way, so decided to do a little DIY so it wont hang from the C port. Listening to John Denver, George Thorogood, Frank Sinatra and Shirley bassey today.

What is in your playlist? Would love to get some good tracks added in mine.

DAC journey so far

First buy: cheap essager dac from aliexpress - a bit cleaner but nothing impressive apart from mininizing the hiss on my legacy dell xps laptop as well as Microsoft surface laptop

Second buy: cx31993 dongle 32bit/384khz - made iems sound cleaner and gave a bit of a headroom for PEQ. Bass came out tighter, vocals a bit cleaner, sound profile and imaging improved substantially.

Third: got the eg280 iems a while back and really liked how convinient it was to use on board PEQ using singot control app and walkplay. But tbh, i have always been more comfortable with peace /equilizer APO on windowsOS.

Then comes the TRN black pearl which turned out to be so much better especially for 7hz legato. The whole character of this one just elevated making it by far my favourite for old school bass focussed tracks. The midbass leak got substantially minimized, the instruments dont sound congested anymore and vocals are not muffed by the loose bass it had in lower output dacs. It was not just extra volume headroom but how it elevated the whole presentation. Even tangzu red lions sound better with it.

Got my eyes on BT DACs from FIIO next for my legacy headphones i am still hanging on to. Wont hurt if they can get back to work.
