Schlitz Beer

Schlitz Beer

I thought these had been discontinued a long, long time ago, but apparently they’re brewing their final batch.

Does anyone know where I can find some locally? I’m way too young to remember their glory days, and I’ve never actually tried one.

For those who have had it, how was it? Was it memorable, or just passable? And are there any beers you’d say are similar?

Tragic News

Always sad when a brewery closes, but especially so one that’s been around 150+ years. Gonna miss not being able to call out “Schlitz and a shot” to that burly biker bar bartender.

Non Drinker needing Beer Recommendations

Hey all! I’m in long term recovery from alcoholism and have NO idea what makes a good beer. However, my brother is closing on a house tomorrow and is expecting his first child. I’ll be flying to NY to see him in the next couple of weeks. He’s a massive beer fan (luckily not an alcoholic like me lmao).

I’m looking to bring him some beer that is unique to Austin. I’m thinking I can fit maybe 24-30 cans of beer in my suitcase.

What are the Austin must drink beers that I could bring up? I assume most places that brew their own beer sell 6 packs of cans? lol idk man

Bar trivia tonight (Wednesday)

In town for work and looking for some bar trivia near downtown. It looks like “Geeks Who Drink pub trivia” runs trivia at a bunch of places.

Is it any good? If so, which bars are decent? I found these that have it tonight.

The Front Page
Billy’s on Burnet
Austin Beerworks — Sprinkle Valley
Aviator Pizza & Drafthouse — Parmer Lane

Looking to stay with a 10 min Uber ride from downtown.

Thanks.

4th Annual St. Elmo x Vacancy Block Party

We're doubling down this year, y'all!!

Last year, we brewed an East Coast and a West Cost IPA for the annual St Elmo x Vacancy Collab. When we asked the brewers what they wanted to make this year, they wanted to up the ante. So here we are, releasing a Double Hazy and a Double West Coast IPA this Saturday at the Block Party.

Come try the new beers, hear some live music & join the 4th Annual Block Party.

Mug club?

Are there any breweries in town that do a Mug Club? I know Lazarus has there club that I cant afford to be a part of and only open a few spots every once in a while. But I miss what the breweries back home had, a yearly membership to the Mug Club, you get your own personal glass, larger pours and some free ones here and there, getting to try new beers forst as a member, and that stuff is fun and you can chop it up with the other regulars.

It was a nice little thing and in 8 years of living here, I havent found one that does it was curious if anyone knew of one ive missed.

Cheap cases at Celis

Just a community update because I ain’t no gate keeper. Celis Brewing has cases of their Late Brunch (Belgian waffle stout) and their Beer Hall (Vienna lager) for $10 and $15, respectively. We’re talking 24 beers for this price. I thought it was a mistake at first and secured a few. Just updating the community!

Best beer for a crawfish boil?

I am going to a crawfish boil and trying to find the best beer to pair. I used to love Dixie beer out of New Orleans before it sold and got changed. I haven’t found a great replacement yet. All suggestions welcomed.
