Any good country lead players not in 4 bands?

My lead guitarist for my country cover band is in 4 bands, which makes it difficult to book gigs. We gig 2 - 4 times a month, only better clubs, corporate events, weddings, festivals, etc. All gigs are paid. Is there anybody out there who is a good player who would fit in my project? We've been together for several years - it's an established thing.

Hi, I play in a band called Decorating. We're looking for a new lead guitarist.

We might not sound like these bands, but these bands are the general vibe:

The Breeders, early b-52s, Mudhoney, Devo, Kleenex, US Maple, Unrest, Osees, Pavement, The Spits, APTBS, Black Lips, Protomartyr, Lower Dens, Yves Tumor, Cindy Lee, Parking, Forty Feet Tall, Big Boys, Guiding Light, Being Dead, 70s punk, no wave, slacker rock/Flying Nun, 90s stuff, blah blah blah.

You:

  • should be into some of those things
  • are serious about music. Let's say... more than a hobby?
  • have your life together. You're reliable and communicate.
  • are a good guitar player. You know your instrument, but like making lo-fi, simple music.
  • can learn songs fast. You have the time and the commitment.
  • can sing/yelp. (Not required though.)

We:

  • are older. Late 30s-40s. 1 gay guy, 2 straight, with friendly, artsy/skate/punk backgrounds.
  • practice once a week, in south Austin.
  • are focused on playing out, having a fun live show. Eventually, we'll record something proper... maybe.

Note:

  • Not a hired gun situation. We want someone who wants to play with us. We have baked songs you'll have to learn, but hopefully you have ideas/songs for us to learn too.
  • This isn't a shredder role. Our sound isn't heavy, metal, thrashy, bluesy or solo-y. If your stoke is virtuoso playing, we're prob not it.
  • We're not trying to "make it." Unless by making it, you mean playing shows in town.

Here's our dumb little video where you can hear where we're headed.

Women and gay/queer folks strongly, strongly encouraged to reach out.

Thanks for reading. DM or email us! dddddecorating@gmail.com 🙃

Wanting to host a huge birthday party at Pease Park for any Austinite born in May, would anyone go?

Hi yall I’m about to turn 21 on May 30th WOOP WOOP, and I wanna be surrounded by actual austinites who are also just as crazy and loving about this city as I am. Yall I miss the random aliveness this city used to be filled with. I believe our spirit still lives in small pockets around this town. I want to host it on the last day of the Month at Pease Park right by the parkway entrance where that field is. Pease park holds many special memories for me from my youth and high school so I want to create an even awesomer memory for the start of my legal adult life (ya I don’t count that 18,19,20 year old bullshit cause I still couldn’t do shit). Anyways I want it to be a fun and games type potluck event where we can all hangout watch the sunset and tell stories with each other. Open to all ages all peoples but of course social guests will be the May babies my Taurus and Gemini brothers and sisters. Please give me feedback about where else I could promote this I’d love to make it a new tradition for my friends and family and hopefully the greater Austin heartbeat. Would love to know what everyone thinks thank you!!

Looking for a luthier to help with a neck reset

I bought a beat-up old 50's Harmony archtop to try and learn what I can about how they're put together. I got the neck off myself and now I'm looking for a luthier that is willing to work on resetting the neck with me.

EDIT: To clarify I'm looking for someone who would be interested in having me alongside them while they do this. Not really financially worth $$$ just having a neck reset on a cheap guitar.

They would be paid, obviously.

Lefty? Let’s Start a Lefty Jam Crew 🎸🥁

This is probably a ridiculously niche request, but Austin is weird enough that I’m hoping this finds the right people.

I’m a left-handed multi-instrumentalist in Austin looking to meet other lefties who want to jam, swap instruments, play shows, write music, and just have fun without being locked into one role all night.

I play Drums, Guitar, Bass, and Keys. I’m

The ideal setup is a group of lefties who can actually rotate instruments mid-session and play each other’s gear (a luxury most musicians take for granted). Musically I’m pretty open, rock, indie, blues, funk, alternative, jam, experimental, etc.

Bonus points if you:
Play multiple instruments
Own lefty gear you’re willing to let others try
Have been irrationally excited seeing a left-handed player in the wild

I’m in South Austin but happy to travel or host a jam space. If you’re in Austin and this sounds fun, send me a message with what instruments you play and what kind of music you’re into.

Thanks!
Chris

I want to record and play live as a Hardcore Punk Band in Austin

Hello, I've been trying to create a band for quite sometime. I live in Austin Texas closer to the northside. I have a name, the concept of the band, I've fully written lyrics, and compositional demos that we can improve on practice with. My demos are more in the ilk of the Old school Hardcore like Minor Threat, Bad Brains, and Black Flag.

Demo #1

Demo #2

Demo #3

Now, I'm not opposed with other ideas of songs nor demos of your own, I just made a lot of them in my years. Also, its a band; everyone adds something in the group. The band I'm planning to form has two guitarists, a bassist, and a drummer. Any more details I'll tell you in private.

ISO Mastering

Hi there,

We're a local austin rock band who are looking to release our debut EP. We've been working with a local producer and engineer, and want to shop around for a local mastering engineer who uses good hardware to master.

Genre-wise, we're 60s + garagerock + some 90s alt.

If anybody has any recommendations that would be great!

Or if that sounds interesting to you, feel free to DM us. We'll send you a link to the current mixes, and please send some examples of your work.

Thank you!

Will drum for egg punk garage rock noise

Hey I’m Sam. I’ve played bass, guitar, drums in a lot of bands and trying to play drums (or whatever you need) for something cool. Here’s what I’m into:

Egg Punk: The Spits, The Gobs, Prison Affair, Gee Tee, RMFC, Snooper, Guiding Light, Diode, The Urinals, Screaming Urge, Wire, Ceremony, The Ramones

Garage Rock: King Khan and the BBQ Show, The Mummies, Personal and the Pizzas, Bloodshot Bill, The Osees, Ty Segall, The Gories, Pussy Galore, Tronics, Johnny Thunders, Dead Ghosts

90’s indie stuff: Guided by Voices, Archers of Loaf, Polvo, Yo La Tengo, Duster, The Breeders,

More indie stuff: Kleenex Girl Wonder, The Clean, Television Personalities, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

And many more: Swell Maps, Women, Ought, Omni, Sonic Youth

I have a full kit and other equipment as shown. I record a lot of songs and ideas on a tascam porta studio 4. I love anything lofi.

I live in S Austin around Oltorf and S Congress. Super flexible work schedule and we can practice at my place n hang out. My neighbors are chill lol

Yea if any of this stuff interests you, let’s get something going so we can play shows.

Caught this powerful debut last night — thought others should know about them!

Marfa Motel Delivers a Blistering Austin Debut at Valhalla Tavern
AUSTIN, Texas — On Friday, May 8 at Valhalla Tavern, Marfa Motel didn’t just play their first Austin show — they lit up the room with raw urgency and undeniable star power. The West Texas power trio (vocalist/guitarist, bassist, and drummer) brought desert psych, bluesy swagger, and punchy rock energy that felt fresh and electric.
They opened with the explosive “Give Me Fire,” and from the first riff it was clear the vocalist/guitarist is something special. He commands the stage with magnetic superstar presence — a lived-in rasp that moves effortlessly from intimate verses to soaring anthemic choruses, while attacking his guitar with fuzzy, articulate leads and chunky chords. You can tell he’s meant for big things.
The rhythm section was telepathic: a locked-in bassist and a dynamic drummer who shifted from sparse, tribal grooves to full-kit thunder. They tore through “How Much It Hurts” with raw emotional depth, delivered the moody groove of “Down by the River,” and hit hypnotic waves on “Feel It.” Every song showed tight chemistry and real heart.
It was bittersweet that the late-night crowd had thinned out, but those who stayed got to witness a band that already sounds complete. No filler, no gimmicks — just three players building something powerful together. In a city full of music, Marfa Motel stood out with passion, skill, and songs that stick with you.
This trio (especially that frontman) won’t stay under the radar for long. Highly recommended. 🔥

Best Open Mics in Your Humble Opinion

I've been in Austin since 2015 and used to LOVE going to Kickbutt Coffee's Thursday night open mic. They still do them on Sundays, but that's usually my day to do nothing and unwind for the week ahead. I've been thinking about going to Dear Diary Coffee's open mic, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

What are your favorite open mics in Austin these days?

Looking for free thinking Horn or Woodwind performers

Is Ascension your favorite Coltrane? Is On the Corner too safe? Kidding but only kind of! I am bringing together an ensemble to perform a show in early June of freely improvised music and would like to add horn/wind players. Please message if you are interested in a one time (maybe), no rehearsal, live show.
