Prepping a Short D&D Adventure for Beginners

Good morning, everyone!

Was chatting with a community member who was interested in learning to play D&D, and realized it was a good opportunity to set up a short game to learn the ropes (maybe 3-5 sessions total, along with character building) The plan would be to play on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays, likely evening, but we'll do what works for the group.

I'm thinking a smaller group here, around four players. If you're in the Austin, Buda, or Kyle area (perhaps as far as San Marcos) and have always wanted to learn to play Dungeons and Dragons, post a reply or DM me. Friendly to all comers and enjoy keeping a good balance of guys, gals, and all else in between.

Curious to see what comes.

Old gods of Appalachia in Austin

Ive had the book since the kickstarter and i was wondering if anyone in north Austin plays it? I’d love to watch a session to see how it really works or play a few before I decide to run my own.

Come join a group of well intentioned miscreant adventurers!

EDIT: Thanks to everyone who has reached out. Gonna be talking it over with the group and getting back to y’all!

Hello y’all! Our merry band of chaos demons is looking for a new victim… I mean comrade… to join us on adventures far and wide!

Meet the team!

Entropy (She/her) • Tiefling Rogue
The brains of the operation. Usually the only one making good decisions and constantly stopping the rest of us from getting into even more trouble. Is badass and absolutely capable of handling business.

Kiri (She/her) • Dragonborn Monk
One half of the chaos twins. Will arm wrestle you. Was maybe in a cult? May try to recruit you into a cult. The jury’s still out.

Tank Sinatra (He/him) • Goliath Fighter
The other half of the chaos twins. Will try to convince you to do our job for us. Will haggle over everything. Will absolutely get himself kicked out.

Ember (He/him) • Tabaxi Warlock
A little ball of fur and anger issues. Will threaten to cut off your fingers. Hears voices sometimes. Definitely has ulterior motives. (This is my character.)

Jett (She/her) • Dhampir Sorcerer
Mysterious. The newest member of the party. Somehow she’s already fitting right in.

And of course, last but certainly not least, weaving our tale is our incredibly talented GM. He’s run campaigns for years and has been crafting a daring story full of adventure and intrigue. We’ve been doing everything in our power to derail it with increasingly chaotic decisions at almost every turn.

Story so far:
We angered some lightning wolves. We still miss one of them.

A bard decided he wasn’t chaotic enough and left the party. (I decided I wanted to swap characters after the first session lol.)

We were hired to escort a merchant transporting two giant mysterious boxes.

We did absolutely everything we could to figure out what was inside them. To an almost obsessive degree.

We failed.

We burned half a forest trying to escape from bandits.

Kiri and Tank got banned from a shop.

Ember drank a mysterious dwarven brew and got poisoned.

We had to barter for the antidote, which sent us on a side quest.

Frank tried to convince us to rob the shop owner.

During the side quest, Kiri kicked a chair and somehow started a fight with tree people.

We fought a water elemental.

We were asked to investigate exploding goblins.

A dragon attacked.

We’re currently trying to evacuate an entire town through underground tunnels.

So I’m sure you’re thinking, “Sign me up!” But on the off chance you need to know a little more, we’re a group of LGBTQ+ friendly adults who get together on Mondays to play make believe and have a great time. We enjoy roleplaying, we absolutely have serious moments, but above all else we’re here to have fun.

We’re playing in our GM’s homebrew campaign set in Faerûn. We meet on Mondays at Dragon’s Lair from 6:00 PM until closing. We’re looking for one, maybe two more players.

If you’re interested, send me a DM with a little about yourself and the character you’d like to play. Looking forward to hearing from y’all!
