CAD Software user research survey

Hi, Im an architecture student who is trying to get into UI/UX and product design and management, and I'm really interested in the design and engineering software industry. Im trying to study how people learn and use software, specicifcally AutoCAD. If anyone can answer this survey, that would be super helpful to me! This is open to anyone who uses AutoCAD. Students, professionals, or even if you're just exploring!

Here is the survey:

What is the best method to delete or move geometry

I've imported this pdf - floorplan into my model-space. Unfortunately, the grid lines and other objects "exploded" automatically. I need to delete or move that geometry to another layer, but as of now I'm individually selecting those lines because they happen to share the same properties with the majority of the other geometry in the document. Therefore, tools like "Qselect" and "select similar" are not giving me the results I need.

help me pls idk how to 3D model😭

Basically, we got this assignment where we received a JPEG of a key and we have to make both the 2D and 3D versions of it. The problem is that we got basically 0 explanation on how to use AutoCAD in general so we’re having a really hard time figuring things out. Right now I’m stuck on the part where I have to make the bump on the RITTAL key in 3D (the one in the circle), and I honestly don’t know what to do next. I’ve tried pretty much everything already. Could someone please help me? Thanks in advance!

(reference in the last slide)

edit: I finally did it ty for helping!

Best Platforms for Remote Electrical Engineering #EPLAN Jobs in OEM and Automation Projects

Hello, what is the best platform for remote work as an electrical engineer, with a focus on offline engineering tasks?

I am seeking opportunities related to the design and delivery of comprehensive electrical and automation solutions, particularly in machine building and OEM environments.

I am also specifically interested in platforms or companies that use EPLAN software for electrical design and documentation, and that support remote collaboration on industrial automation projects.

What is the best platform or marketplace for this type of work, especially where there is strong demand and less candidate saturation?

Help with plotting/printing electrical diagrams

I have an AutoCAD file which looks like the picture. They are all individual pages of electrical diagrams. I want to print each page to an A4 or A3 or a PDF file for that matter. How do I do this? When I try it just picks one page and prints it.

I got sick of copy-paste trees making my site plans look completely fake, so I coded a workaround.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a frustration I often face when creating organic master plans. Using 50 identical tree blocks or paving stones can make a natural site feel sterile and grid-like, which is the last thing we want.

Manually adjusting each block's scale to create a more organic look can be tedious and time-consuming. That's why I developed a parametric tool that revolutionizes this process. With just a few clicks, you can select your blocks, set a minimum and maximum scale, and watch as it instantly randomizes their sizes while keeping their positions exactly where you placed them.

This tool has dramatically enhanced the way my elevations and site plans appear. I’d love to hear how you all tackle the challenge of avoiding the "copy-paste grid" effect in your planting plans!

Help!

Hey everyone I’m looking for free resources to get started with CADWorx. An opportunity at work has come up and I want to hit the ground running.

A little background: I have over 20 years of AutoCAD experience so I’m no stranger to CAD environments- but I’m trying to bridge that gap into CADWorx.

Anything helps like YouTube channels or FREE TUTORIALS.

Forums!

Or if you already did the transition I’m going for.

Dumb Carpenter trying to learn.

so first of all i apologize if this is a very simple thing to do , but i'm not very good at this software let alone technology, but i hate not being able to do things, and im trying hard to figure this stuff out.

Now with that out of the way, im trying to print out certain details full page, i just cannot seem to find out how to do this, i started printing stuff but i need certain details enlarged, for the life of me i cannot find out how to do this, im using forma if that makes a difference, i have it on an iphone ipad and computer using that webpage. anything i can do? also if there is a place that i can learn how to use this software better i would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Also i don’t know if this is the right place to ask this i tried in the other autodesk sub and was immediately removed

I built a free offline web app for AutoCAD drafters — 37 reference tools that work on your phone without an internet connection

After 20+ years in AutoCAD and several years doing utility engineering drafting, I got tired of answering the same questions from new drafters and field crews — scale factors, LTSCALE, metric to imperial conversion, annotative text setup, layer standards. Always the same stuff.

So I built UtilityDrafter.com. It's a progressive web app — meaning you add it to your home screen like an app, and it works completely offline. No app store, no login, free.

What's in it:

  • Scale calculator (paper space, model space, annotation scale)
  • Metric ↔ imperial unit converter with the full math
  • Annotative text and DIMSCALE guide
  • Layer standards, linetype guide, hatch calculator
  • Viewport and paper space setup
  • LISP scripts and snippets you can drop straight into AutoCAD 2024
  • Drawing health audit checklist
  • Utility industry tools (conductor sag, conduit fill, wire ampacity, transformer sizing)
  • SDGE overhead and underground construction standard readers

Built it for myself first, figured other drafters might find it useful.

Would love feedback — especially if something's wrong or missing. What do you constantly look up that isn't there?
