How to improve bolstering before leather seat “redo”?

I have a 2013 Highlander. Have had it since 30k. The seats are by far the worst seats I’ve ever “sat” in. I say “sat” in because you don’t sit, you slide from one side to the other. The door keeps you from sliding to your left and the console bolsters you on the right. The seat itself provide less than zero bolstering. An absolute joke.

This is a common complaint with this vehicle apparently.

Short of a professional re-doing the seat entirely with custom supports, is there any way to add bolstering to these seats?

I’m about to buy leather seat replacement “skins” and redo the cracked leather and I’d like to address the bolstering at the same time.

Any advice? Possible?

Swap to newer style seats? Can I buy a newer seat cushion and seats from a newer Highlander?

Fishing boat seats help!

Stitching gave up on our boat seats. These seats hinge and cover storage areas. Our beloved salmon fishing boat probably only had a year left so we’re looking for repair-on-a-budget options. Anything “marine” usually costs an arm and another arm. You—redditor—probably got charged a small fee just for reading this post because it says “boat”. My apologies! We had the captain seat recovered a couple years back and the cost was insane so we are looking at either DIY options or ideas. I was thinking of removing one and taking it in to a few shops that do a decent volume with autos. That way nobody has to travel and we don’t tow a boat. Also, the “marine” upholstery shops are all busy until winter basically. Thanks for ideas!

Retrimmed this steering wheel in leather

Finished another MX-5 steering wheel retrim.
I’ve been trying to push my upholstery work in more of an OEM+ direction. Really happy with how this one turned out, the new leather feels so much better in the hand than the worn out cover it had before.

This one is black leather with perforated grips, “euro” stitch and a 12 o’clock marker.

Have a unique problem.

I bought some seat cover protectors that were supposed to be fitted but were a bit loose and had a ton of bulk. After redoing a few seams and trimming a ridiculous amount of bulk (i mean like an inch of seam allowance in some places) they fit almost perfectly. Only problem is I have these junctions left over where multiple pieces were joined together that stick out really far. It is a PVC/vinyl material with foam backing so I can't just iron them down and I can't just cut them because there are seams in them. They push the fabric out and keep it from laying into the creases tho so what can I do about these things?

Is this leather upholstery with red stitching factory original on an F20 118i?

Hey everyone,

I’m looking at an F20 118i with black leather seats and red stitching (photos attached).

The stitching on the headrests and side bolsters looks a bit too thick and slightly uneven to me, so I’m wondering if this was re-upholstered by a previous owner or if it could actually be factory original (e.g., Dakota Black with red highlight / Sport Line).

I don't have access to the VIN just yet to run a decoder. Based on the stitching quality and fit, does this look OEM to you?

Thanks in advance!

Repairing/concealing scratches in real leather dash?

It’s a sort of dark grey colour leather, and the scratches vary from thin surface scratch to deeper as you can see.

I want to attempt a repair to conceal the scratches, one that wont wear off easily or rub off.

Can anyone advise how I can reliably do this?

Looking for an seat armrest for 09 Vue ex

Hey I just bought my Saturn, but I realized it doesn't have the arm rest attachment to the seat. I tried to look it up online but it kept getting armrest/console covers. Am I searching this up wrong?

Door upholstery is peeling

Hey guys! New to this kind of problem. My upholstery on the door of my 2013 Lincoln has been peeling. Not sure if it's due to the heat or what. Any ideas for repair? New to this, but willing to give it a shot! It's my dad's car, and im trying my best to maintain it, he loved this thing.

Thanks!

Anyone have any recommendations for premium leather seat covers?

I just bought a new Frontier and the seats are cloth. I have a good chunk of cash set aside for extra aftermarket stuff (tint, bedcover etc.) and one of the things I want is to have some high quality leather seats. I’ve never bought any seat covers and don’t know anyone who’s went for leather seat covers. I’d be willing to spend a few hundred on something but not sure where to look or what’s good. If anyone has any experiences please share, thanks!

Backwards 3rd Row Headrest?

2022 LE, optional flamethrowers. I always thought this looked odd but now I'm pretty convinced this was somehow removed and put back in incorrectly. If I'm not wrong, how can I fix this? The thing won't move even when I'm pressing in the button. Should I force it?
