2018 S1000RR — Two different engine sounds, need help identifying | Video included
Hey guys, I have a 2018 BMW S1000RR with 28,000 km on it and I'm hearing two distinct sounds coming from the engine. I've recorded a video so you can hear both clearly.
Can anyone help identify what these two sounds are and how serious they are?
Thanks 🙏
Northeast test ride
Anyone have luck test riding the s1k before purchasing? I’m considering pulling the trigger, but would like to test ride it …Local dealer laughed when I asked to take it for a spin , not sure about dropping 31k plus before making sure I’ll enjoy riding this machine…
Had my first track day today why are my tyres hardly torn up when some people in my group I was 10-15 seconds faster than looked way more worn
Honestly just curious, is is a better / worse tyre quality thing ? Is it because my bike doesn’t put as much eat into the tyres for some reason? I was running fairly new / not very used power 6 Michelins. I could see on the app I was 10-15 quicker than some of the guys I was sitting with per lap, their tyres looked like someone had taken sand paper to them though. Mine barely looked used
Rear sprocket noise.
I have this noise coming from the back rear wheel sprocket. I tried to tighten my chain a bit and I think I messed up the alignment and I can see the chain wobble a bit as the tire is spinning. What do you guys think?
S1K exhaust
I have a 2026 BMW S1000RR with a slip-on exhaust, but it’s still not loud enough. I’m thinking about installing a decat mid-pipe and removing the catalytic converter, but I do not want to do an ECU flash or tune. Some people say a tune is mandatory, while others say it’s mostly necessary only for full exhaust systems.
Can I run a decat mid-pipe with a slip-on without a tune and let the bike adapt on its own? Will it cause any harm to the engine or should it run fine?
Also, my bike is still under warranty. If I install the decat system without tuning the ECU and something later goes wrong with the bike, will the dealer be able to tell that the exhaust was modified?
Dealer Gave Me Wrong Oil Filter?!
I’ve got a 2025 BMW S1000RR and the dealer parts counter gave me oil filter 11427673541 “144906-10” I installed it, but I later saw conflicting info saying this filter is usually for other BMW models (Boxer/K-series) and not specifically listed for the my model.
Employee gave me this short filter after asking if I had aftermarket headers.
Does this filter provide the correct oil flow / bypass pressure for the S1000RR engine?
Is it actually safe for long-term use on a high-RPM inline-4?
Or should I switch immediately to the S1000RR-specific filter (11425B70298)?
I’m more concerned about engine oil flow and safety at high RPM than just fitment. The filter did come loose while riding, but that may have been me not torquing it down properly.
Thanks
Terrible start to a Friday
I thought she was gone. Instead she slammed on the brakes due to traffic. Hit her left rear bumper area. 🙄 Nobody was hurt.
Guess I'll get new fairings now.
Just picked up this 2016 s1000
So I found this deal on Marketplace and ended up picking her up anyway.
I get to the meetup spot and the guy already has the bike loaded in his truck. First thing I’m thinking is, “Uh… what’s up with that?” He said he had brought it to another buyer earlier and the deal fell through. Weird, but whatever.
I’m checking the bike over and ask if we can start it up. It’s still loaded in the truck at this point. He fires it up, everything sounds good, starts fine, no weird noises. So we unload it and I go to start it again so I can take it for a spin and make sure I like how it feels… nothing. Bike won’t start, and the screen isn’t even turning on.
He goes, “Oh, it might just be out of gas.”
Bro… be serious. Clearly not the issue.
At this point I’m already thinking the whole situation feels sketchy, but he really wanted the bike gone and suggested we load it back up and drive to a gas station to see if it would run. I agreed.
On the way there, somehow the straps come loose and I’m sitting there thinking, “Yeah, this has to be a sign.” The whole thing just felt cursed at that point.
Since the bike was basically dead, he asked if I’d still want it for $4k. I countered with $3.5k because literally nothing was turning on at the time. He hesitated but agreed. We keep messing with it trying to figure out what’s wrong and still can’t get anything.
Then while we’re readjusting the straps, the front forks compress a little and suddenly the headlights come on. Now I’ve got hope again.
He asks if I still want to try taking it to the gas station. I’m like, “Man… I guess.”
We get there, and while I’m on the phone, he realizes the kickstand was down and the bike was still in first gear. He gets it started, and suddenly the price jumps back up to $7k. I ended up getting him down to $6.5k.
I honestly didn’t know the screen wouldn’t even turn on in that situation. I ride a 2020 CBR650R, and on that bike the dash still powers on — it just won’t start unless you pull the clutch. I assumed the S1K would be similar.
Now I’m lowkey upset I didn’t just gamble the $3.5k and take it home when it looked dead 😂 Part of me feels like I lost out after talking myself back up to $6.5k, but at the same time if the bike’s solid maybe it was still worth it. Curious what y’all think did I get a decent deal or sell myself?
Carbon fibre parts
I’ve refused to aliexpress my bike, but brands such as rpm carbon are either sold out or have delivery times of 8 weeks.
So I’ve been peeking at ali and found stuff such as these. Any way to know if they’re actually legit carbon fibre? Any disadvantages, any experiences? All opinions are welcome.
Thank you
Are these engine sounds normal? (2021 s1krr)
I think it’s a bit loud. I had it checked at the BMW workshop a week ago, the guy fixed the loudness and the engine actually became a bit quieter. But I pulled the bike to high rpm once and the loudness came back.
Does this sound normal?
I think it sounds normal, but I hope to get a second opinion. 2020 with 3000+ miles and updated chain tensioner. The noise might go away after a short ride. (Not sure) The video is recorded after engine warmed up from a cold start. I only recorded on the right side as the noise is more prominent on this side where the timing chain is. Maybe it’s just timing chain slap at idle?
Transparent Clutch cover (2023)
I am in love with the transparent clutch covers. Rizmoto is a little pricey to say the least. If i went with DBK would this be all I need? Apologies on the ignorance, I just don't want to start putting it all together only to realize I need another part that will take a week to deliver.
Also, anyone have experience installing these things? Or info on any potential downsides to this accessory?
Wheel wobble
I just tightened my chain a bit and now I have this wobble. Is this an alignment issue?
Carbon fiber S1000RR
Belly pen + winglets + aero disc cover are on the way 🔥🔥
26 s1000rr issue
We bought a 26 s1000rr m pack new with 17 miles on it. Drove it 50 miles and a steering failure light came on (I don’t remember exactly what it said, I’m just the passenger🫣)
It’s at the dealer now and after their diagnosis, it needs a new fork replaced.
I’m sure it’s a shot in the dark, but has anyone else experienced this?
Also, please don’t tear me to shreds if I sound like a dumbass. I know I am. It’s my husbands and he doesn’t do reddit lolololol
