Headlight height + angry men = bad time

Saw a post the other day about changing the auto high beam in settings and it has been on my mind. Just drove the backstreets of my inner city neighbourhood and had a man literally jump out of his parked car and jump in front of my car (luckily at low speed) to accost me for having my high beams on. Obviously this is a nut job reaction BUT it got me to go in and have a look at the settings and given I do a bunch of driving inner city I’ve dropped the headlight height down considerably.

I’m absolutely not trying to be the guy in the big Ute with the annoying ass headlights.

Super rough that it took a pretty startling altercation though so take it as a mild PSA.

Trade in car valuation

Hi everyone, just wanted to see if anyone here has been through a similar situation and could offer some advice.

I recently got approved for a BYD Shark 6 with delivery coming up soon. Before inspection, the dealership estimated my 2020 Toyota Fortuner Crusade trade-in at around $36k market value. However, after inspection, they reduced the actual trade-in offer down to $22k due to cosmetic scrapes and reconditioning costs.

Wanting to compare options, I went to another used car dealer and they offered me $28.5k for the same vehicle, which is obviously a massive difference.

Now I’m trying to decide:

Should I just sell the Fortuner externally instead of trading it in?

Has anyone changed their trade-in arrangement after finance approval but before delivery?

Did the dealership allow you to adjust the finance amount afterwards?

Is it worth the extra hassle selling privately or through another dealer?

The BYD delivery date is coming up soon, so I’m trying to make the smartest financial decision before finalising everything.

Shark 6 feels better on road than Sealion 8.

I test drove both shark 6 and sealion 8 and shark feels so much better on the road than sealion 8. Aren't they built on the same platform and should perform similary? Shark's cabin is so much quieter. I don't know if it's because of the tire and suspension but I've decided to go with shark instead of the sealion 8. Does anyone have any insight? Is shark 6 a better platform because it's derived from Fangchengbao instead of the regular byd?

Exiting ACC

What is everyone’s experience with exiting ACC?
According to the manual, pressing the cruise switch while ACC is active will deactivate/exit ACC.
I have driven 3x 2026 build sharks, and in not one of them does this function work.
The only way to exit is to tap the brake pedal.
Keen to hear others’ thoughts?

Headlights!

Okay so we live remote (Pilbara) and do a lot of highway driving - some of which is at night where it’s mostly just you and the road trains
I’ve had the truckies get pretty shitty with me because they think my high beams are on, but they’re not
Others around town have told us the lights are real bright - to the point they think high beams are on… I don’t know what the “how bright is too bright” legally
But anyone else noticed this?

I’m not complaining I’d rather spot the camel/cow/donkey/emu/goat/horse/kangaroo about to to do something stupid in the dark before it does

Low profile canopy with a rooftop tent and 270 degree awning

Im trying to find a picture of the setup i plan to use for some week long road trips.

The goal was setup where the rtt is on the same level or slightly higher than the roofline.

I would have thought it would be a popular configuration but maybe people dont care that much about aerodynamics? 🤔

I want to put bikes in the back for mtb rides during the week and then fill it up with camping gear for longer adventures.

Has anyone successfully setup a canopy and rtt that nice and aerodynamic? Can you post a picture?

Pet friendly canopy

Hi all, I'm looking for recommendations for a canopy with sliding windows on both sides so I can take my dogs around.

I've seen the Tradesman D1 which looks alright, but I've only seen one photo, no specs or anything.

Price range under $3K without installation.

Thanks in advance!

it's time for driver profiles (and a programmable button)

I notice a lot of mg, xpeng and geely owners talking about their cars having a) driver profiles and b) a programmable button that let's you do things like open a specific app or apply a driver profile

lots of those owners are setting their profiles up to disable the more intrusive safety features on start, then linking that to the button

while there's no "spare" button on the byds, surely there's something they can do on that side

either way, why are there no profiles when I can assign access to the vehicle via nfc on phones for different drivers?!

ADAS - phantom braking

As of recent, I've been having an increased number of "phantom braking" events at low speed when there is absolutely nothing around to have caused it. I've checked the front sensors for dirt or other. Feels like my shark sometimes has it out for the car behind me, and just feels like "break checking" them. Interested to hear if anyone else is experiencing this issue with the Shark?

Anyone elses brake lights on the piss?

The brake lights on the car shown on the screen behind the steering wheel aren't centered. Is this a new bug? I've had the car for over 12 months and never noticed this 😂

Towing

NZ tradie here, dont hold it against me.

I looking for anyone here who has some real world experience with long term towing on the byd ute.

Regularly travel in excess of 300km per day up and down country (work in a dairy support industry) and Im getting a bit sick of my van enough to pull the plug on it. Will be towing roughly 1t+ in gear plus the trailer every 2-3 days, sometimes daily.

Will wait for the 2L obviously as it turns up in May as large engine should theoretically drop down fuel consumption when towing and extra capacity (3.5t vs 2.5t) is always good.

As an aside, I do realise my fuel bill will be greater than my existing van but Im starting to dislike the constant chemicals Im breathing daily.

Dash Cams / Mirrors

I've had my Shark for about 2 months now, and installed a canopy.

I'm wondering if anyone with a canopy has installed a review mirror camera set up? Something like Wolfblox mirror dash cam that includes a wired rearview camera.

If so, how have you found it and how did you wire it up?
