The First Jasmine: a unique Cdrama with great character exploration. A no-spoilers review.

Such a simple scene, but so much emotion is conveyed in this little moment where Ye Li is running in the rain towards the carriage. Her whole demeanor screams, "Don't leave me alone!" (The lyrics for the song playing in the scene, if you're watching it with context, will make you go 😭). The director truly knows her stuff.

At first, you are confused by her. You think, "What a strange girl." She appears to be very strong, capable, and talented; in fact, she edges dangerously close to Mary Sue territory. However, eventually the truth comes out and is revealed to the audience. As viewers, we realize what is truly happening, and it breaks our hearts.

All in all, I am so satisfied with this drama. As usual, the screenwriter, Zhou Na, delivers.

She has written many dramas with complex character development and interactions, and I have wholly enjoyed all of them as a result.

Some of the dramas you may have heard of include:

 1. Feud

 2. A Moment But Forever

 3. The Demon Hunter's Romance

 4. Love and Destiny

Her dramas may not be critically acclaimed in the sense that they get Douban ratings of 8 and above, but one thing is for sure: she will give you amazing character highlights and insights, Even with the side characters. As a result, her characters are often very memorable, and you deeply, deeply feel what they're going through.

I have always found that she leads with her characters. She doesn't overly explain their motivations or actions, and as a result, you have free rein to interpret why they did this or that. This makes discussions really interesting! She conveys emotions through actions and behaviors.

Just like in this simple scene where Ye li is running after the coach, you can see the emotion in her expression and you instinctively know what it is all about.

For those who are curious and have not watched this drama, The First Jasmine is about a woman who descends from a mountain full of scholars and academicians called Ling Shan. That mountain has been sealed off by the order of the Dowager Empress, and she has only been allowed to leave after almost a decade because she was going to be engaged to a prince.

The prince, however, is disabled from war, bitter, and out of favor. In all appearances, she got the short end of the stick, but Ye li turns around and brings light to this household.

I really enjoyed this drama and the journey the characters brought us into. It is by no means a perfect drama; however, I was so deeply moved by some of the episodes, especially towards the end. I am sure that those who have watched this drama with me can relate to what I am saying.

P.S. Don't drop spoilers, please. Some of them can be quite devastating to the viewer's enjoyment.🙏

Justice for Bai Lu and other artists 😭

This is crazy...

Imagine spending time and efforts just to hate someone. I can't wrap my mind in the thought that some people can be so downright evil and smear artist's name. Hope they get their punishment.

It's disheartening how Bai Lu is mostly getting targeted. Hope she is fine among all this negativity around her ❤️‍🩹

It’s a difficult time for all lurongs these few weeks....

i know there are alot of noise recently both internationally and locally...

Can I get everyone’s help - at least on reddit, let’s just not engage on whatever subs, unless the person is outrightly saying that it IS bai lu, bai lu DID xxx & yyy. Let’s just be as calm as possible and not be “overzealous” as some people might like to label us. It’s upsetting to see people keep “spreading” the allegations but let’s be real - we can’t stop them from doing so especially on social media.. if someone deletes the post or the comment gets removed, someone else can always talk about it.

we cannot control what others say and im convinced bai lu has lost alot of casual fans from the black marketing these few months + now about the whole mo li thing that's putting bai lu / bai lu fans in a very bad spot.... nobody has anything good to say about bai lu anymore. so the more we say.. it will just look worse. unless we're giving more unbiased opinions on timelines, or explanations on what happened!

nothing is confirmed until official announcements and/or clarifications have been posted.

let’s just do our part to support her, leave encouraging comments on her social media and most importantly, support & watch Mo Li + her new upcoming drama! 💚🍐

Finished The First Jasmine and I have one tiny complaint

Just finished The First Jasmine and wow… I absolutely loved it.

I’ve always been a Bai Lu fan, but honestly I haven’t been able to finish most of her dramas after One and Only. The only exceptions for me were Northwards and Story of Kunning Palace. Everything else, I dropped half-way. It was never her acting that was the problem—it was usually the script, directing, cinematography, or just the overall production that didn’t click for me.

But I genuinely can’t fault The First Jasmine. Well… except for one thing. Was anyone else wishing there was a bit more skinship between the leads? 😭 I just felt like there were barely any kissing or intimate scenes, and by the end I was still wanting more.

I like Cheng Lei too, and I remember being so excited after he guested on Keep Running. Seeing them together made me really look forward to seeing them in a drama together.

But during the promotions, they honestly felt kind of… distant? Like on Keep Running and Hi-6, I just wasn’t getting the same CP vibes that Bai Lu had with Zhang Linghe, Ao Ruipeng, or Zeng Shunxi. It almost felt like neither of them was really trying to sell the CP. Bai Lu seemed more comfortable around Cai Zhangjie.

I was wondering if it had anything to do with all the black drafts and negative rumors about Bai Lu that came out right before the drama aired?

Bai Lu you beauty 😩 | The First Jasmine

I can't stop gushing over whenever Bai Lu comes up on the screen 😭 she is looking too pretty. There are many such beautiful shots of her.

Kuddos to the makeup team because I love this minimal kind of makeup look on her. It honestly looks refreshing and not over the top. The team also did a good job on getting their real skin show instead of applying too much filter. To me, Ye Li looks amazing with her hair down.

Bai Lu is the princess of this cloudy summer realm

These photos are from Bai Lu’s 10th anniversary concert shoot (白鹿十周年拾光音乐会)
and the photos feel like they were pulled from a dream someone had about summer.

The pale blue tulle, the ladder, the clouds, the wildflowers. I find it that all works together so perfectly. She doesn’t look like she’s posing for a photoshoot, she looks like she actually lives there.

Wishing her all the best in her career!

Note: This is an appreciation corner post. Please do not leave negative comments. If you have a different point of view on the dress or the photoshoot then you’re most welcome to discuss. This post is not about her acting, talent or looks.

Watermelons: Yet another promo vid for The First Jasmine/Mo Li

If Cheng Lei gave you food you didn't like, would you eat it? I'm not a fan of watermelons, but I wouldn't say no.

So glad we get another new Mo Li/The First Jasmine promo video! Loving this gentle and sweet CP. Please, keep 'em coming.

Is anyone loving the interactions between Cai zhengjie & Lulu 😭

Superficial me can’t help it when he’s so handsome too & speaks so highly about Lulu here 🤷🏼‍♀️ & he’s really trying so hard to promote the drama & interact in the comments which is so cute! Man’s going to go far!
