My wife thought it was on a loop due to all of the similar call signs
I have worked the last 24 days in a row with 1/2 a day off. The stress of dealing with people was enough. Left for work at 2:30 this morning. Worked like a possessed man. Got the f$@k out as soon as possible. Put away my phone and music. Just listened to thumper rip through some back country emptiness. Wish I could live in the middle of it all.
Not bad for the money. Free chirp software. Data cable came with. I get just as many transmissions as my father in-laws Whistler. Only this be portable 🫠
"The Austin N5OAK Ham Radio Club Repeater seems to be pretty active. That shouldn’t surprise us much because the club has a lot of activities and a lot of enthusiastic members. Still, we wondered just how active and opened the spare parts drawer to see if it held a solution."
"Turns out the spare parts drawer did; take a look at the wiring diagram at the top of the page. We simply used an Espressif ESP32-C3 Dev Board with an input pin wired to to the output speaker of a Baofeng HT tuned to the repeater frequency. We monitor the C3 input pin and if it sees a signal the repeater in transmitting. We push that data to Adafruit IO at the top of each hour to graph the history."
Its costed me with the antenna and extended battery on both 147 dollars is that a good deal?
Baofeng dmr will not work on a private channel we made , but the private channel will work if I pick it through the talk groups we named it room . It’s got the correct color code and time slot and my friends is programmed same way , but his works on the private channel with other friends . Just wondering if anyone had this issue and was able to resolve I copied his code plug and it’s still a no go . Thanks for any info on how to resolve .
Hello I recently got a DM32 to listen to my local counties Fire dispatch and EMS dispatch cause Im in EMS and nerd for this type of stuff and want to know whats going on. Anyways, my county got a structure fire recently and wanted to listen in on the Fire Tac channel but couldnt. I have an understanding of the CTC and CTCSS tones but I looked up the Fire Tac channel it listed and DPL 251 tone. I looked it up and it seems DPL is just Motorolas term for a DCS tone so it should be interchangeable right? I did see inverted vs normal tones but do I need to input a different tone into CPS for me to be able to listen in?
I’m going back and forth on if I should get a DM-32 or Uniden Bearcat BC125AT. I don’t really want this for transmitting but just to hear local frequencies and both of these are more entry level. I know the Uniden is a scanner only and is better at receiving, but the DM-32 can pick up DMR. I’m wondering if the scanning feature on the Uniden is worth getting over the DM-32 to hear local frequencies. Has anyone compared these two and seen differences in reception range or ease of use?
Howdy all, just tried programming my new 5R with the Radioditty Bluetooth programmer and the Ola app and it seems locked up. Long pressing doesn’t seem to have any results and the google recommendation to reset the radio didn’t work. Any advice?
I own a couple BF-888s , they work fine, audio out could be a bit more powerful, but for the price, the radio has been excellent for GMRS and the 70cm repeaters. I saw the BF-C2's on sale. My guess, the internals are the same.
Anyone know if there are any differences (minus the flashlight feature which I don't need) between the two models? Im looking to buy a few more! Audio power, PTT and other controls, durability, charger, batt life.
Thanks!
Can anyone tell me if the Baofeng UV-5R Mini would be any use?
I work on an extremely large construction site and looking for something that I can speak to my other colleague at the far end of the site.
Also, I’m here. There is a number of cranes working who use UHF radios. Will I be able to hear what they say or scan all frequencies to find them?
I've had my Baofeng UV-5R for a couple months now, and I am very impressed with it's 2m repeater performance, though as expected it's hard to make a simplex contact with ~5w. I took it to my local park today, and I turned it on, and I noticed there was a weird frequency on the lower "B" channel. It was out of my allocations (333 MHz is out of the 1.25 meter, and 70cm band limits), so I obviously didn't try to transmit on it, but I also noticed almost all of the lights indicating options for the radio were lit, as you can see in the video. This leads me to believe it's some sort of factory setting, and although I did go into chirp to get a couple settings changed (welcome message, etc...), I don't remember doing anything with frequency range. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers, KO6NGX
Got a few recommendations to try GMRS instead of meshtastic for communication within our scout troop so I'm checking here to see about radio recommendations. We camp frequently in wooded hilly areas without cell reception. I'd like to be able to have the patrols be able to communicate with one another when separated. Any recommendations of a GMRS radio and antenna upgrades if needed that would work in this situation. Thanks!
I'm hoping someone can shed some light on whether I am doing something wrong or whether these things are just more limited than the manufacturers are letting on before I put the in a box and return them.
I bought 3 888s from BaofengUK I got a simple UK biz license - my UHF freqs run from 449 to 458, I cant get these things to work for love nor money with my frequencies, the squelch breaks but there is no voice transmitted at all, heres a pic of my config, I turned off all the obvious stuff that I thought might not help.
So after quite literally hours and getting no where, I decided to write back the original config that the radios came with and of course all those illegal freqs work great but not the ones I actually paid for, can anyone help me maintain my sanity before I bin these off, what am I missing?
I’m trying to put together gear that will let me easily use my Baofeng HT with one hand while riding my bicycle. I got this single ear ear bud/PTT mic and I’m disappointed by the audio quality I’m hearing from the ear bud. Anyone know a better quality single ear ear bud/PTT mic?
As the title says, im considering buying a DMR radio, i need the radio also to be able to communicate on analog, and gps would be a giant plus. Im located in EU.
Any help shedding some light on the which to choose or if there is another one in the same price class.
Hi guys, I was programming my UV82 for the first time when I foolishly pressed the PTT while the programming cable was plugged in.
Some strange characters apeared on the screen and the flashlight turned on. I turned off the handy and now every time I try to turn it on this happens (every "pixel" in the LCD screen turns on). Also, now chirp won't recognize the handy when I try to download/upload the data.
Does anyone have any idea of what happened? Can this problem be fixed? Did I just screw up my first handy? Thanks in advance for any info.
(Sorry if I misspelled, english is not my first language)
Hello! I am wondering what the application of gps can be used for in a standalone radio? (no others to share location) And The digital compass the instructions said it had.. I can’t find any information on it actually giving n s e w directions. I cannot tell if it’s just for finding other radios shared to it or it has an actual compass.
Also is there anything else special about this radio I need to know about?
Thank you! 73!
Besides the proprietary gps in the bff8hp and other small changes what’s really the difference? Is it cleaner or better in any way? If anything it’s more laggy/rough looking.
Right now if price didn’t count i’d think the k5plus is a nicer radio..
