EQLZ 247 NXT Review/First impressions

Preface/Introduction:

I always start any review or thought piece with an introduction into my build and playing style just in case it makes a difference. I’m a 24 year old, 6’3” 207lbs guy who plays basketball recreationally and is actively looking for a team. My archetype/build is more tuned to a PF, meaning I mainly operate in the mid-range. I’m quite athletic and jump around a lot for rebounds, layups, dunks and block attempts. Theres more to speak about me, but it’s a review not my life story, so I’ll save it for later.

I recently ordered the EQLZ 247 NXT after noticing that they were on sale for a pretty substantial amount on their website £84 including shipping. As they’ve just come in now, I’ve decided to do a review on it since its hard to find a proper review on here.

Design:

The design is absolutely beautiful. it reminds me of the AJ11 low with its panels and colour blocking. I have the pink colourway and it definitely has a statement feel to it. If you’re someone who values looks, this might just be for you. The box is also really good looking (if you care about that).

Cushioning:

The cushioning is odd for me. When I put it on, I noticed the almost barefoot feel on the forefoot which can be quite good, but the heel feels quite substantial, making the shoe feel bottom heavy. Maybe the feeling will go away after walking around in it at home, but it’s hard to be certain at the moment.

I will say that the foam itself is quite plush to the touch, as my heel feels very supported, just that the forefoot foam isn’t as thick which is a shame, because if it felt a bit softer, it would’ve felt like a lighter version of the New Balance BB Fresh Foam V3.

Edit — Bounce:

This is a new section as I didn’t mention the bounce in my original review. The shoe does have decent energy return, but it’s clear that the foam is meant for a softer feel rather than a bouncy ride. I wouldn’t expect it to be as bouncy as ZoomX, Zoom strobel, boost or lightstrike pro. So if you’re looking for that, skip this shoe and add a bit more money to your budget and buy the Li-Ning Liren 4 to 6. Or the Nike KD17 (this has some nice offerings in the US I presume. The UK has some bad colourways in sale and I can’t justify paying full price for it when I could just buy one of 361 or Li-Nings “super shoes” for the same price).

There is also no shank plate in the shoe, meaning there is no “propelling” feel when going from heel to toe, or striking on the floor hard. This doesn’t really bother me too much as I’ve never owned a shoe with a stiff carbon fibre plate. If you have, let me know in the comments below.

Support and sizing:

The shoe has very thick side walls for lateral containment, meaning that you won’t have to worry about your ankle or foot sliding out to the side of the shoe, but at a caveat. The right pair sidewall kind of presses into the side of my foot, causing some pretty bad cramping. Though the pain is going away slowly, it is important to know what you’re getting out of it.

The entire back half of the shoe‘s sockliner uses a cat tongue material, which in my experience really helps with ensuring your heel doesn’t slide in and out of the shoe (for reference I have the Li-Ning Bad 5 sniper which has this and my heel has never slipped).

If you’re buying this, go for your true size or go up half a size. Don’t listen to the people telling you that the shoe runs long. That only applies to the regular 247 which uses a knitted upper similar to primeknit, which is incredibly flexible once broken in. This pair uses padded and stitched mesh that isn’t as flexible and is quite snug. I’m a UK size 10.5/11 or a US 11.5/12, and I bought these in a US 12, which was a great decision as my toes are touching the front of the shoe.

For the laces, they are quite long, so I’d recommend looping them through the final eyelet again for more tightness around the front, though I don’t need to personally.

Traction:

Whoever is interested about knowing what I think about the traction on these will have to wait for an update as I can only go off what other reviewers have said because I haven’t tried them on court yet. They are reminiscent of the Kobe IX with the foot-shaped pattern and look like they might be really good on any surface, but I’ll have to get back to you on that.

Similarities and comparisons:

Nike Sabrina 3:

This shoe is quite similar to the Nike Sabrina 3 which I wear from time to time. Its low to the ground, has decent court feel and uses a mesh/slightly knitted upper, although the EQLZ has better arch support and an easily removable insole (if you want to toss game day pros in there). The Sabrina does have a forefoot zoom unit, cushlon and a lighter heel, meaning it feels more springy, but this has better cushioning overall, and feels like it might be good for slightly heavier players.

New Balance BB Two Wxy:

Some people say that this is similar to the NB BB Two Wxy but unfortunately, I haven’t owned that shoe to make any comparisons. But if it has decent cushion and very good support, then they might just be similar after all.

Puma All-Pro Nitro 1 and 2:

I bought a pair of Puma APN2, before returning them. Out of the box, these felt similar to those, though the APN had an overall higher off the ground feel, with a slightly plusher cushioning set up. EQLZ has a better fit however, as I’ve had no pinching or pain in my toe despite the shoe feeling quite snug. The midfoot is also more inviting, due to having a conventional toe box shape and lacing layout.

Summary:

To conclude, this shoe looks and feels like it could be really good, I just have to play long enough in them to give a full on recommendation for anyone. If you’re looking to buy these, just be careful about the side walls as it could also cause some cramping for you.

how bad is the shai 001

I’m considering them cuz of how good they look but every review about them is bad. i really liked the wow 808 3 ultra v2 because of the court feel and the fit on them.

361 dvd 4 at Ross

34 bucks but unfortunately I had to pass due to sizing. This is a great line of shoes so definitely check your local Ross. I would recommend at least a half size down

Next Shoe - Help me decide!

Hey everyone!

I am looking to get some new shoes here soon. I am a sucker for some all black hoop shoes. I have these 4 options in mind, I would greatly appreciate if anyone can provide feedback on personal experiences and I am even open to getting recommendations for shoes not pictured here.

From left to right:
- SPO Easy 1 Plus
- Anta Kai 3
- NB P400 Low
- AR Rigorer 3

In terms of hoop shoes, I really value a shoe that has solid traction on all indoor court conditions, support, and decent impact protection/cushioning. I have owned SPO in the past, Anta Kai 1’s, and NB line, so I got experience in those brands. Rigorer would be the only brand I am going in completely new to.

Thanks for your time, I’m looking forward to the comments and discussions!

The Way Of Wade 12 is the Greatest of All Time (jordan 28 take a seat because of zoom durability only 😂)

This shoe saved my life.

I rolled my ankle in the second game of the National Muslim Basketball Tournament this past weekend and I actually have the video to share. You can literally see the lateral flange catch the floor and resist the shoe continuing to roll. I went on to play 5 more games and win a championship. That’s when the WOW 12 went from probably the best shoe I’ve ever played in to the GOAT for me. It does what it’s supposed to do at an elite level and that really sums up all aspects of the shoe. That’s why I have 3 pairs.

Traction: 10/10 let’s get this out of the way. Traction is only an issue on a terrible court but you wouldn’t drive f1 tires on a city street with potholes so don’t take these to a dirty court. Get some dirty court shoes. volanti or Anta Kai any number would be my recommendation…or just avoid dirty courts 😂. But even on dirty courts I don’t feel unsafe for the record, I just don’t think these were designed for the dirty court hoopers, they were designed to be the best for the best and to that point, they succeeded.

Cushion/responsiveness: 10/10. Perfect execution, bouncy, protective, court feel it’s all there and these things are light. The only way I think the cushion gets better is if they start playing with nitrogen air bags like volanti and make a more stable version of the Jordan 28 setup but I doubt it so until then, this is the standard. No break-in time either…zero, out of box ready to perform…amazing.

Support: 10/10 my ankle can attest. No heel slippage, fantastic lockdown and that flange 😮‍💨. Not much else to say here these are the AllState of hoop shoes, you’re in good hands 🤲🏽

Fit: 10/10 I wear a 13 and unlike the wow 10, every pair I’ve purchased has been a perfect fit. Wow 10s run a little short it seems like but still an elite shoe. These are those with stat boosts and zero foot fatigue/pain unlike the 10s with the overly aggressive shank setup.

Materials: 11/10 The materials they went with for the upper are next level. I know it’s a foam or something but man it hugs you but doesn’t hurt and it doesn’t crease…Steph chose Li Ning for a reason and I can’t wait for his line because i know he loves these and wants to outdo them.

Final thoughts: buy them. They are expensive but they are worth it and they will last. If you’re serious about your game, do your feet and legs a favor and cop a pair of WOW 12s.

I’ll drop a volanti review later this week because they are a good under $200 option and my outdoor/dirty court champion. Other than that, I’m done with shoe reviews until I find one that beats one of these 🎯

What are these called?

Remember them being hard to find my size in 8th grade on eastbay. Does anyone know what they’re called ? Silver and red with the air max bubble along the bottom

Joker 2 High Ace

Roomier than I anticipated…I have wide feet. Much wider than Adidas Adizero Select from 2023 (had to use a tennis ball and a golf ball to stretch out the “throat”). They’re not as long as the Adizero Select either (both sized 11).

Went up half a size for these (11) and they’re as a wide as my 10.5 Wide New Balance p400.

Gonna wear them more around the house before I try breaking them in a bit shooting around a few times then pickup.

Volanti 911 Rocket one in my Top 5.

Got my Volanti 911 Rocket for 63$ 2 months ago. Just played it today for almost 1 hour with a very dusty court. See photo at the end of the video. Will compare it with my JB3, WoW 12, Joker GT1.

Cusion- GT 1, Volanti, WoW 12, JB 3.

Traction- JB 3, GT1, Volanti, WoW 12.

Fit/Support- JB3, WoW 12, GT1, Volanti.

Court feel- JB 3, Volanti, WoW 12, GT 1.

Traction- Picked up a lot of dust. For me it's better than my WoW 12 Family love. I did not wipe the sole but still traction better than WoW12.

Cusion- Almost the same as my Joker GT 1.

Petition for Nike to retro/protro the Air Zoom Drive (2000s)

Posting this every year until Nike does!

The Nike Air Zoom Drive is a lightweight, low-top retro basketball shoe famously worn on-court by NBA point guard Steve Nash during the early 2000s. Known for his preference for minimal, fast feel sneakers, Nash favored the Zoom Drive for its speed and court feel.

I remember thinking it looked so cool on TV with white socks.

I dont know if people would buy these today but I sure would!

Got these for $40 I’ve been seeing that these go for a lot but I’m wondering the actual market for them

Comfortable basketball shoes?

Hello all. I just wanted to seek some new information about some nice cushioned and bouncy basketball shoes. I am a light and shifty guard, and I like good heel and forefoot bounce but nothing too too mushy. Does anyone have any suggestions? I heard the WOW 12 is comfortable, but the carbon fiber plate makes it slightly firm.
