Loud noise when using Squier bass VI via interface (but not with an amp)?

I bought a Squier Bass VI on Saturday. All good through my practice amp. But, when I plug it into my interface (which is very important to me as I record into it), the noise is very loud.

It silences when I touch the metal plating, but when playing it's still always there, unusably loud.

I never have this issue on my Telecaster or my bass guitar. I've tried different cables, and moving around the room, but no fix.

One thing I did notice when I unscrewed the metal plating, was that there is a loose cable that goes into a hole under the bridge. I presume that is supposed to be like that?

Any tips on how I can reduce this noise?

Thanks

Antigua Squier Jazzmaster Baritone (modded)

Before the purists come at me, when I bought this guitar it was literally the body with no hardware, and the neck with the logo scraped off. You can’t find the original bridge, and I could not find a danelectro equivalent without buying an entirely separate guitar.

Here are the changes made to complete the build:
- Toronado style bridge
- 3 lipstick pickups
- 6-position pickup selector
- black pickguard
- jack/ flat jack plate
- pots and knobs
- black headstock with Fender Jazzmaster waterslide decal (from etsy)

Might be interested in selling for the right price.

Loathe Introduces The New Electromatic Baritone CVT & Jet | Gretsch Guitars

This really turned my head, I'd already been considering the previous Jet Baritone but this looks like a good revision, decent price too (both sub-£600 at Andertons from a quick look for those in the UK)

Slightly disappointed that the CVT is 27" since I already have/built a guitar at that scale, although I think it says the LP style body of the Jet is contoured, didn't get a good look.

Dunno how Erik has them tuned, I know he often plays EAEADF# if I remember right but the supplied strings probably won't go that low. I know you shouldn't expect to sound like Loathe just from pulling it from the box but they should probably be clear about that.

Converting to a baritone

I was thinking about throwing some baritone strings on my vi. Id done it before but I was wondering if any of you have done this mod and what you did? I was also considering throwing lipstick pickups in it too.

Vintera III Bass VI - SWAP your parchment guard for my tort guard?

So I just placed my order for the new(ish) Vintera III Bass VI. I couldn't not. I had a fully upgraded Squier that I loved and played a lot but sold out of necessity. When I saw the spec on these, the timing was right so I had to!

I ordered the Oly version and have visions of it with a parchment guard - does anybody have the VIII CAR version and want to go full MBV red/tort with it? Let's chat 😄

Vintera2 with weird bridge.

So.... I was going to start playing with the setup on my recently bought 2nd hand vintera2, and was going to start looking at saddle heights.... Then discovered my vintera2 has no saddle height adjusters.....

It looks very much to me like I have Squier cv saddles on my bridge (but the bridge is still vintera2?) does this seem to be what it looks like to anyone more familiar with the different kinds of fender offset bridges? I think this might explain bridge lip buzzing if I have ended up with Squier bridge radius on a vintera2 bass.

Also it looks to me like the bridge movement has been gumned up with electrical or plumbers tape. I'm assuming that I can just remove the bridge and clean that up. Once I sort out what's actually been done to this guitar... Right now the bridge doesn't move for pitch up movements (when tremelo lock is off) but does move a small amount for pitch down.

I'd like to have a solid idea of what's going on before talking to my seller. He did not mention anything about bridge mods when selling it.

Also if there's anything else you think I might want to check isn't messed up now, that would be good.. vintera2 is meant to have better tuners and pickups than a Squier isn't it? How would I tell if those had also been changed?

Schecter Hellcat VI

This is one of my Schecter Hellcat VIs. I bought it back in 2012 and have been a convert to the Bass VI style basses ever since. I did the road worn patina and Pride did the pinstripes.

Stringspacing 52 vs 55, a matter of preference?

I own a 2013 MIJ bass VI. Just mentioning it because different types come with different bridges, certainly when it comes to the fretboard radius. The OG bridge as well as the replacement bridge I got on mine are 7.25“ and have 55mm string spacing. I never had an issue of strings being to close to the edge of the fretboard and slipping off. Anybody else have this issue and made the switch from 55 to 52 and benefit from it? Isn’t 52 to close? Just a matter of getting used to?
