I have a small 16’ aluminum bass boat with a 2010 mercury 50hp elpto. My lead batteries are on the out and I really like the idea of switching to one of the lithium batteries that is like 150+AH that can be both house and cranking battery. This would save a bunch of weight and open up some room in the bilge on my small boat and allow me to upgrade some of my electronics as well.
I also understand that this engine and stator aren’t 1:1
compatible with lithium and it’s really only the newer 4 strokes mercury has approved. I have seen others still using a lead battery for the started and then lithium via a dc to dc charger which I can do but doesn’t feel like it’s worth the effort or money in my situation
Is there any literature or wiring diagrams to run the dc-dc between the motor and battery directly to be able to do this? Or is this simply not possible?
TIA
I’ve never owned a boat before and just got an aluminum 19’ avid bass boat. How much wind is too much wind to go out my first time? I’ve never unloaded or loaded a boat into the water before or worked a trolling motor.
i have an 86 champion bass boat.. i've been putting work into it. finally got my deep cycle battery's. went to go test the trolling motor (80lb thrust 24v minnikota) and it was getting little to no power, was only spinning on max speed and at a very slow speed. i took the prop off pulled some fishing line and grass off put the prop back on and now it won't spin at all. pulled the head off, replaced the fuse because it was a little corroded and the light inside was on so it's getting power there.. right? i'm new to this and a first time boat owner. what should i check/do?
I’m trying to find out what year my Challenger 1500 Sport Fisher Pro is and my Johnson 50. I paid 1200$ for it and think I got a damn good deal. I sanded the entire boat down and just applied 1 step compound. Waiting on Meguiars marine wax then the waxing and polishing will be done. Also got some 20oz carpet for it waiting to be applied. It’s proven impossible to find and parts for the Challengers since they only ran a few years and were discontinued so modernizing the boat is gonna be fun.
I currently own a 1979 brooks bullet bass boat and I’ve had it for 8 years and I have never had an issue with it but now I think it’s time to upgrade….i can’t imagine buying one brand new with prices. So I’m looking towards used with more storage and more power and such but I’m stuck on what to look for lol
