Bastrop Tax Break Report Card

Bastrop Tax Break Report Card

I made this to illustrate what I care about when talking to county representatives considering tax abatements.

Do you agree with my scoring?

What criteria do you care about?

Have you spoken to your county commissioner or BISD board member about tax breaks?

Has anyone else seen Robotaxis in Bastrop?

I saw one drive up Tahitian this weekend, but I haven’t seen any others. I know manned robotaxis are testing in Austin.

Lots Going on Next Two Days!

We’ve got a little bit of everything going on, so whether you want to get outside, play some games, meet new people, or play pickleball, come join us!

🥾 SUNDAY MORNING — HIKE / RUCK
⏰ 8:00 AM
📍 Bastrop State Park — meet at the entrance
Come hike with us or throw on a weighted backpack/vest and ruck. Dogs welcome.

🎲 SUNDAY — BOARD GAME NIGHT
⏰ 4:00–8:00 PM
📍 602 Brewing
We’ll have plenty of games and people to teach, so no experience needed. Feel free to bring a game you love too!

🚶 MONDAY — WALK-N-TALK
⏰ 7:00–8:00 PM
📍 Fisherman’s Park Pavilion
Bastrop Social Club is sponsoring this month’s Walk-N-Talk! You’ll walk about a quarter mile with someone new, then switch partners for the walk back. It’s an easy, low-pressure way to meet someone you might not have crossed paths with otherwise.

🏓 MONDAY — PICKLEBALL
⏰ 7:00–9:00 PM
📍 Fisherman’s Park
Pickleball is still happening too! Beginners are absolutely welcome. Some of us will be joining after the Walk-N-Talk, so feel free to do one or both.

Come to one event or come to all four. The whole point of the Bastrop Social Club is just to make it easier to get out of the house, meet people, and make some new friends around Bastrop.

Car registration...

Hello, im homeless and live in my car in bastrop, fled a domestic violence situation out of state and ended up here, working on not being homeless, taking a while as i am disabled and have limits to what type of work i can do.... but my car registration for the old state is out, i need to register here.... i do not have an address of course since i live in the car. I have used my 3 allowed temporary registrations and it is now expired too

Is there any place like shelters or something that would allow me to use the address for documents so i can register the car? i dont want to actually stay at the shelter though, as i feel safer to just be alone in my car and i dont want to take a bed that someone with no car would could use. I know theres some in Austin but the car has exhaust problems so i cant pass emissions and cant afford the repairs right now.

🎮 Bastrop County Girl Gamers: Looking for local gaming friends! 💕

Hey Bastrop Girlies! 👋🎮

I recently started a Bastrop County Girl Gamers Discord for local women who love playing video games and want to make more gaming friends in the area!

We’re already growing into a really fun little community, and we’re not just keeping it online. We had our very first board game night this past Saturday, and it went amazingly! 🥹💕 It was so much fun getting everyone together IRL, and I’d love to keep growing the group and have more game nights, hangouts, and other fun meetups!

The main focus is definitely online gaming, whether you’re someone who loves playing with others or mostly plays solo and just wants more gamer friends to chat with. 🎮✨ We have people playing different kinds of games, so you don’t have to play the same games as everyone else to fit in.

If you’re a local girlie who games and would love to meet other women who do too, comment here or send me a DM and I’ll send you the Discord invite! 💗

Come hang out with us! 🎮🎲💕

Move to Bastrop? We’re Reconsidering

We have been planning to sell our rural property and move to Bastrop, but now we are reconsidering. It seems like Musk is planning to take over the whole county! Is anyone else concerned about this?

From bastrop? Class of 95-97? Remember "The house at the end of the world"?

Does anyone remember the place off 1441 or somewhere near the lake maybe not sure where but was nicknamed "The house at the end of the world" drug house or party house. I only went there a couple times but it was a very odd and strange home.

The mailbox had that name written on it.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who remembers that place.

Constant Updates / Documents Pacifico POWER PLANT / DATA CENTER

If you're concerned about the 710 megawatt Pacifico Power Plant or the data center it'll power, please frequent Lost Pines Watch with regularity. And share with your friends and neighbors!

I am not affiliated with Lost Pines Watch, and I don't know who's behind it (wish I did, so I could thank them for their contribution). But, the work being done there is immaculate. Clear breakdowns, source documents, action items, points of pressure, and opportunities for public testimony.

Set it as your homepage and get updated constantly. This thing is changing so quickly, and that's a great way to stump those of us trying to put a stop to this Pacifico power plant madness.

PLEASE WATCH : Pacifico Data Center / Natural Gas Power Plant

Hey y'all,

It seems as if (based on applications to the county) the Pacifico plan will likely include a 700+ MwH natural gas power plant to provide energy to a data center on the same property off Earl Callahan in Cedar Creek. If so, our focus might need to shift to the clear danger of the power plant instead (or at least along with) the data center. Water usage, air pollution, wastewater management, heat, fire mitigation, and all the concerns about data centers are clearly going to be part of a power plant (one large enough to power close to 600,000 homes!).

Here's a video from PBS from our neighbors up in Abilene. Please watch to see what might end up in your backyard!

https://youtu.be/5p426fSlYH4?si=hhpaRzCMlHfVo1ir

Perhaps a fact from the video would be good to share with County Commissioners on Monday, August 10, 9:00 AM, at Bastrop County Courthouse Annex, 2nd Floor, 804 Pecan Street, Bastrop, TX 78602.
