Hey everyone,

I’m a recent college grad and started a student housing marketing platform called Empire Off Campus focused on helping New York students find off-campus rentals.

I’m currently looking for a few undergrad students to join a 2-month Market Development Internship running from June 1st through July 31st.

The role is very hands-on and focused on real business growth. Interns will help with landlord outreach, partnerships, marketing strategy, and expanding the platform to more schools. This is a good fit for students interested in startups, entrepreneurship, sales, marketing, or business development.

More info here:
https://www.empireoffcampus.com/opportunities

If interested, email me your resume and a little about yourself. empireoffcampus@gmail.com

Being a New York student is definitely a plus since that is our current market, but I’m absolutely open to students from anywhere in the US since this is a remote internship.

The internship is paid through a commission-based structure with real earning potential tied directly to performance and growth.

Thanks!
Ethan

I called code enforcement on my landlord (my room might be illegal)

Hi guys. I want to break my lease and my landlord wasn’t happy about it/is refusing to help me find a replacement (which is illegal). So I called code enforcement to come look at my house. and they said “yeah, this room is not a legal room” (that is, my room does not meet the square footage requirements for a legal room). I said “can I get that in writing?” And they were like well no, this is our initial assessment, and then we go and look at the property records. And if this isn’t a room, and he didn’t have permits to make this (the attic) into rooms, that’s a problem.

I have a feeling that my landlord illegal converted the attic space into three bedrooms (with ceilings and windows that do not meet size/height requirements). Will this actually be enforced? Will they say “okay you have to get out now” (if it’s found to be illegal?). Is this a slap on the wrist thing? Can I leverage this to get out of my lease? Is calling code enforcement common? Has anyone else done this before and also what happens next??

I know the report will be sent to my landlord (and he will 100% know it’s me who called code enforcement…) and I was told that I can also request a copy of the report because I was the one who called. (Anyway. Everyone should do this!! They also found the smoke detectors had dead batteries and there need to be carbon monoxide detectors in each room).

Advice appreciated!
