Donating stuff, where?

Can someone lead me to a place where I can donate stuffs like plushies? They're all in good condition and I don't wanna drop them off at Goodwill because it might just get trashed.

I was thinking of donating them to the pet shelter but I have no idea if they will take them. Thanks!

LIT Student Platforms?

I couldn’t find any kind of subreddit specific to LIT so I’m posting this here. Does anyone know of any platform to connect with other LIT students? I’m looking to start an organization on campus and am struggling to reach out to potential members.

Niqabi with full scholarship at Lamar – is it safe/worth it?

Hi everyone,

I’m an international student from Pakistan, I wear hijab + niqab, and I’ve been offered a fully funded scholarship at Lamar University in Beaumont. I will be living in off‑campus housing near the university.

Online I keep seeing that Beaumont has a high crime rate and people say areas around Lamar aren’t the safest, but others say campus itself feels reasonably safe if you use common sense (don’t walk alone at night, lock your stuff, avoid sketchy areas/parties). I also read that Lamar is quite diverse with many international students, but the wider city can be rough and there may be some racism.

For anyone who actually studies or studied at Lamar (especially Muslims / hijabis / niqabis or visibly international students):

  • Do you feel safe on campus and in nearby off‑campus housing?
  • How are people’s attitudes toward Muslim women?
  • Is the education and environment good enough that a fully funded scholarship makes it worth choosing Lamar despite the city’s crime rate?

I’m really stressed and would appreciate honest experiences.

Volunteer work that doesn't require training or orientation sessions

I'm needing to complete a minimum of 10 volunteer hours over the next 3 weeks for mini online course in my bachelor's program. I'm open to almost anything except an elderly facility. I do need to have a "site supervisor" and I need to be able to get started asap, this week. I would shelf library books for days if that was an option but I'm struggling to find easy access volunteer options.

Flying out of bpt

Anyone flown bpt to dfw. I have a flight to dc next month and I’m flying from bpt to dfw before flying to dc. How reliable are the flights out of mid county? Are they usually on time? They only fly Dallas twice a day and I’m considered that it may delayed or cancelled to next day. Also with it being a small airport should I still arrive 2 hours early or will 1 hour be enough time.

Where to Live?

I know this has been discussed, but thought I’d ask anyway in case anything changed. My son is graduating from college and took a job in Port Arthur and everything I read says don’t live there. Instead he should live in Beaumont, Nederland or Port Neches. Trying to narrow down which area is good for a 22 year old guy. Something with a little bit of livelihood and has things to do. And are there any apt. Complexes to see or avoid? I would appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!

Looking to hire a couple day laborers in lumberton.

Looking to hire a couple of people to help load a truck in the morning. Where should I go? I know in Austin I just go to the Home Depot.

Beaumont ISD Intel

I see that TEA is taking over Beaumont ISD, but wondering what the experience is really like for parents/kids actually there, especially elementary & middle school. Is it really and truly terrible district-wide? Or are there some schools that are still good and some to avoid? Will be relocating to the area this summer from Northwest Arkansas and while PNG or Nederland would be the preference there are more housing options in Beaumont. I actually grew up in PN, but haven't lived in the area in almost 25 years. I know a lot has changed in 20+years.

Me and partner are moving to Beaumont from Houston within the next year and will be looking to rent. Looking for a nicer luxury-style or new build apartment/townhome in the area.

Also open to things I should know before moving to Beaumont, I’ve never visited before.

Student Life at Lamar?

Doing some research and came upon this school. Wanted to ask how the student life is at Lamar. How active the student body is. And how much activity there is off campus and whether it was safe or not?

Texas Rangers Company D — 1887 Frontier Lawmen

In the late 19th century, the Texas Rangers embodied frontier justice, law enforcement, and rugged independence. This historic image of Company D from 1887 shows men whose jobs took them across wide open country, small towns, and unsettled borders to maintain order in an era of rapid population growth and economic change.

Rangers tracked outlaws, protected settlers, and pursued cattle rustlers — often under harsh conditions and without the modern tools of policing that exist today. Their uniforms, rifles, and quiet confidence became iconic symbols of Texas law enforcement and resilience.

While their legacy is complex, encompassing both celebrated service and controversial episodes, the Rangers’ impact on Texas identity remains undeniable. Portraits like this one capture a chapter of history when lawmen were on horseback, paths were unpaved, and authority was as mobile as the frontier itself.

First Day of work went great

I started today. Doing industrial landscaping for a refinery in Beaumont. Can’t complain. Solid hours, nice steady flow of time, decent pay. We’re not making a million bucks here but I’m okay with it for now. They didn’t even mind that I lied about the zero turn! The general manager said he kinda figured but I was pretty determined to start working so he let it slide.

I usually have nothing nice to say about this place, but hey it’s here, I’m here, I’m living it man… living the dream. I’ve got a job, a bed. Man I’m blessed. Thanks to everyone who gave me solid advice.

Best camping spots in the thicket??

Does anyone know some good back country camping spots in the thicket besides the trails. I’ve always wanted to camp in the canyon lands unit. What are y’all’s thoughts??

Marriage license vs marriage certificate

might be a dumb question.

i just got married 3 weeks ago and filled my marriage license, justo got it back but I was under the impression that they would return a marriage certificate not the same license. Do I need to request a ma certificate separately or the license have the same legal value?
