Hi BedStuy!

tiffin.nyc, our local Indian lunch delivery service has now been running for one month and we wanted to say thank you for all the support we’ve been getting! We couldn’t have done it without the BedStuy community here!

Some updates on our progress:
We’ve delivered 28 unique Indian dishes ->
-> to over 100 neighborhood residents ->
-> with 25% of our customers being repeat customers!

We pride ourselves on a selection of Bombay street foods, Indian home cooking and our own creative spins :)

We'll be expanding to a larger radius soon and accommodating more dietary restrictions.

I moved here two weeks ago and I havent found any walking distance sports bars. Are there any in bed stuy? It seems like I would need to go to Williamsburg to find one.

Looking for the nba playoffs

Every time I go outside someone on every block is blasting pollen from their sidewalk/street into the air and creating massive dense clouds of dust/pollen. My eyes cannot take it anymore.

I was riding my bike down Halsey and almost got hit by a blacked out G Wagon ripping out of a parking space (different rant) and then immediately got blasted in the face with a guy with a leaf blower. I had to pull over because I literally couldn’t see.

Please hold off until the rain comes this weekend and washes it down into the system.

I am really craving a cold corona on a bar patio but don’t drink. Does anyone know if any of the bars near us have an NA Corona? It’s so specific I know 🥲

The title says it all. Please stop bringing your children to bars. Last night my husband and I are trying to enjoy a nice evening together at our favorite spot, Don’t Call Me Shirley, when the entire vibe is ruined by a screeching, screaming child throwing a tantrum. A bar is not a place for a child anyways. That is not the only bar this happens at in the neighborhood and it’s becoming a common occurrence. Please leave them with a sitter or just don’t go out.

ETA: I really don’t care what argument is presented, this was not a common issue until about a year or two ago when the demographic of the neighborhood really changed.

I’ve been collecting Barbies and other trinkets for over two years and I have a small collection growing. I don’t really know anyone else with the same hobby. And I’d like to meet other people that also enjoys dolls / action figures in general. I am a gay 32 year old man, been living in BedStuy for 7 years now. Anyone else with the same interests?!

The title says it all. Please stop bringing your Boomer parents to bars. Last night my husband and I are trying to enjoy a nice evening together at our favorite spot, Don't Call Me Shirley, when the entire vibe is ruined by someone's father loudly asking if they have a "beer beer" and then being visibly offended when the bartender explains what a saison is. Even worse, said father completely ruined the aesthetic of the Instagram post I was trying to make in order to make all of my friends back home in Ohio jealous of me and there he was: in the background, wearing an Under Armour tshirt with an American Flag on it. He probably voted for Trump.

A bar is not a place for someone's parents anyways. That is not the only bar this happens at in the neighborhood and it's becoming a common occurrence. Specifically only people between the age of 25-39 should be at this bar. Please leave your parents at the Hampton Inn or just don't go out.

ETA: I really don't care what argument is presented, this was not a common issue until about a year or two ago when the demographic of the neighborhood really changed. I moved here specifically so I wouldn't have to interact with people from the suburbs, and definitely not from swing states, and now one of them is using their phone flashlight to read the cocktail menu and asking our bartender if she can have her martini "extra cold."

I'm a NYC native but new to bed stuy, moved here in February. I'm near Atlantic and Franklin. Might also cross post in Crown heights as I know this is considered borderline neighborhood wise.

To go to the train, I have to walk on Franklin between Atlantic and Fulton. I get the Franklin C.

In the last 3 weeks I've noticed an extreme uptick in the amount of people - primarily homeless men - loitering constantly by the bus benches. I'm guessing the nicer weather has to do with it.

As a small woman, its honestly been extremely intimidating to walk the like 2 blocks I need to walk home. But - nothing ever happened really until Sunday night.

Sunday around 9 PM I was ordering Halal from that cart that's right there and someone attempted to grab me while I was talking to the cart worker about my food. I pretty much immediately bolted away, not running, but walked as fast as possible. Called my boyfriend because I needed someone to be talking to me while I walked because I was freaking out. In retrospect, calling might have been bad - another thing to grab me and rob me for.

Left my plate of food, didn't pay for it. I feel bad about that.

Feeling really shaken by this.

Do other people familiar with the area feel like this is a one-off instance or should I expect more problems? I can deal with people trying to talk to me and me politely saying no and keeping it moving, but this was an attempt at probably robbing me physically.

It would be a little out of my way but debating going to the other way and walking up Classon to get to Atlantic instead for now on, especially at night. If anyone can speak to how that stretch is, please let me know - I think it should be fine from what I've seen.

Been spending a lot of time walking around Bed-Stuy lately while apartment hunting and I can’t tell if I’m overthinking everything or if the neighborhood really changes block by block that much. Some areas seem super quiet and well maintained, then you turn a corner and suddenly half the buildings have terrible complaint histories or management reviews. I’ve been checking streetsmart while researching places and it made me rethink a few apartments I was originally excited about.
I want to know what people who actually live there think, what’s the part of renting in Bed-Stuy that newcomers usually underestimate?

Please stop bringing your childless adults to bars

The title says it all. Please stop bringing your childless adults to bars. Last night my husband, three kids and I are trying to enjoy a nice evening together at our favorite spot, Don't Call Me Shirley, when the entire vibe is ruined by some young adults loudly cursing and speaking inappropriately while getting drunk. The bartender had to take a break from making Shirley temples to make some “mixed drinks” whatever the fuck that is. They are standing there the whole time blocking the area that my kids wanted to run around and play in.

A bar is not a place for childless young adults anyway. That is not the only bar this happens at in the neighborhood and it's becoming a common occurrence. Only families should be at the bar, childless adults should be out there trying to start relationships and procreating before joining us in the community.

I've noticed a lot of bars in our neighborhood now have people in them. I prefer a bar that is completely empty except for me. It's just a better vibe and I think we can all agree on that. So please, the next time you think of going to that bar you like, remember this post. Thank you in advance.

Wondering how people are making friends.

I'm usually too broke for things like friend speeding events, am usually the oldest person for those anyway, and also usually the oldest for things like group picnics or sports nights (usually stumbled upon in Instagram explore page), and when I tried volunteering a few times in the past, after asking other attendees if they wanted to do anything like get lunch or dinner together, it was usually crickets.
I think as I was at these events I tried to stay as 'neutral' and open as possible, like, just listening to others talk, or occasionally jumping in when shared interests lined up, so I don't think (but obviously can't ever really know since we don't always know how we come across to other people, and usually the social contract is to avoid being harsh to someone about their missed social cues unless they're being unnecessarily rude or offensive), so, am not sure why I'm unable to move past 'sharing space in short bursts of time' for events where everyone's a stranger' moments that would later translate into 'a nice planned time, intentionally hanging out.'

I've posted here in the past too trying to get people with a shared interest to hang out, and after a few texts asking if people were free, or asking to hangout during times they said they'd usually be free being no-gos, I just gave up.

Hey there, New Englander and NYC frequenter here! Last week I stayed in Bed Stuy for the first time, found the most adorable little cafe with rave reviews and cute pictures, Coffee with Milk, but when we went the following morning (12th) it had been freshly health coded and shut down!! I’m not sure how often stuff like that happens in NYC so Im a bit nosy and curious. We ended up going to Paris Dakar next door and loved it.

I probably won’t stay in Brooklyn in the future for other reasons, but if anyone has any other cafe recommendations for the area let me know!

This is absolutely a long shot, but it feels worth trying because the vibe was vibing and Reddit has solved stranger mysteries.

To the gorgeous Black man in black roller skates who rode the A from Manhattan to Brooklyn and got off at Nostrand: Earth tones. Maybe army green pants? A sleeveless cut-off and the only kind of gun show I support on the subway. The nose piercing. The whole fit. You had no business looking like that on public transit.

I noticed you as soon as you got on, but I was overheated, not looking or feeling my best, fully in “please do not perceive me” mode, and yet there we were, definitely catching each other looking.

We both got off at Nostrand. I ducked into Wholesome Farms Market. You were somehow gliding out right as I was walking in, and we made eye contact and smiled. Then I immediately tripped on the kicked-up rug, because apparently the universe wanted to humble me. So smooth, I know.

I assumed you’d skated off into the Brooklyn night forever but I walked outside and spotted you cruising half a block ahead. I hoped you might turn around, but no dice. You kept rolling, I kept walking, and now here I am, writing a missed connection on a neighborhood subreddit like it’s 2009 Craigslist.
