Urban Sketchers | Bendigo Chapter (newly formed)

An open invitation for anyone in the Bendigo community to join the newly formed Bendigo Urban Sketchers Chapter. Urban Sketching is a global community that connects drawers with free local meet ups for sketching/drawing/painting a local environment. You do not need to be an experienced drawer, everyone is welcome even if you have never picked up a pencil before.

Our first meet up is Friday 4th September, 10-12am at View Point in Bendigo (at the BENDIGO sign in Rosalind Park). We also aim to hold Sketch Meets in the towns around Bendigo, in the coming months.

Welcome to Urban Sketchers Bendigo!

This group is for local and visiting Urban Sketchers (USk) to share sketches, discover the places around us and connect with other sketchers.

Urban Sketchers draw or paint on location, indoors or outdoors, capturing what we see through direct observation. Our sketches tell the story of the places we live, visit and experience, creating a record of a particular time and place. You don't need to consider yourself an artist to join us. Whether you've never picked up a sketchbook before, you're getting back into drawing, or you've been sketching for years, you're welcome here. There is no required skill level, artistic style or medium. Bring whatever you enjoy using.

We celebrate different ways of seeing and encourage everyone to share their own perspective.

THE URBAN SKETCHERS MANIFESTO
• We draw on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation.
• Our drawings tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live and where we travel.
• Our drawings are a record of a time and place.
• We are truthful to the scenes we witness.
• We use any kind of media and cherish our individual styles.
• We support each other and draw together.
• We share our drawings online.
• We show the world, one drawing at a time.

SKETCH MEETS
Free regular sketch meets will be held throughout Greater Bendigo region. Check Events for upcoming locations and details. You don't need to be experienced or know anyone before you arrive. Find a viewpoint that interests you, sketch for as long as suits you and enjoy being around other people who like to draw.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Before you arrive: Check the event details for the meeting location, time and any updates. Bring whatever materials you like to sketch with. A stool or portable chair, hat, sunscreen and water may also be useful depending on the location and weather.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE
Say hello to the organisers so we can welcome you and introduce you to others. If you're not sure where to start, come and say hi. We'll let you know where and when to meet for the throw down and group photo, usually around two hours after the start of the meet. While sketching: Find a viewpoint that interests you, or sit with others and sketch together. There's no expectation that you produce a finished or polished artwork. After the meet: Share your sketch with the group if you'd like to. We love seeing the different ways people interpret the same place and hearing the stories behind the sketches

LOOKING AFTER EACH OTHER
USk Bendigo is a volunteer-run community. Please take responsibility for your own safety and belongings, be aware of your surroundings and don't sketch somewhere you feel unsafe or uncomfortable. We encourage everyone to look out for one another and respect personal space and boundaries.

If you have an accessibility requirement or something that would help you participate comfortably, please feel welcome to contact an Admin before a meet: uskbendigo@gmail.com

Suggestions for posters and flyers?

Hi, this weekend we're putting up posters and handing out flyers for the Bendigo Comedy Festival (which is in October). Anyone recommend a good place? Like, does your cafe or workplace have a spot? Cheers.

**Edited above as some people thought the Festival was this weekend.

E scooter wheel repairs in town

Anyone have any knowledge on a tyre repair service that can change over 10 inch tubeless tyres? I've tried Bob Jane as they were the only ones open on Saturday but gonna start ringing around tomorrow.

Guy 1: A plane has 500 bricks on it.

One brick falls out. How many bricks are left?

Guy 2: 499.

Guy 1: Correct. Now, how do you put an elephant into a refrigerator?

Guy 2: I don’t know.

Guy 1: Simple. You open the refrigerator, put the elephant inside, and close the door.

Guy 2: Oh, okay.

Guy 1: Now, how do you put a giraffe into the refrigerator?

Guy 2: The same way.

Guy 1: Wrong. First, you open the refrigerator, take the elephant out, then put the giraffe inside and close the door.

Guy 2: Ohhh, cool.

Guy 1: Now, there’s a party in the jungle, and all the animals are invited. But one animal doesn’t show up. Which one?

Guy 2: I don’t know
Guy 1: The giraffe, poor guy is still in the refrigerator!

Guy 1: Now, there’s a woman trying to cross a river. The river is usually full of alligators. But she swims across safely, and not a single alligator touches her. Why?

Guy 2: I don’t know.

Guy 1: Bro, I literally just told you. There’s a party in the jungle, and all the animals were invited. The alligators went to the fucking party!

Guy 2: Oh, right.

Guy 1: But she still died. How?

Guy 2: She drowned?

Guy 1: No. Remember the brick that fell out of the airplane at the very beginning?

Seeking dash cam footage: car accident Hattam and Allingham Streets intersection 11/08/2026

We are urgently seeking information and/or dash cam footage of a car accident that happened today (Tuesday 11 August) at around 7.30am on the corner of Hattam and Allingham Streets in Golden Square (near Interact Us).

A dark grey Hyundai Tucson was driving along Hattam St towards the railway line when it was hit in the side by a dark grey Holden Cruze attempting to turn onto Hattam St from Allingham St. The Hyundai was hit with such force that it completely spun around into the wrong direction. Unfortunately, the driver of the Holden Cruze only pulled over for a short amount of time before driving off.

Due to the severity of the damage to the Hyundai (it is unable to be driven) we would very much like to speak to the drive of the Holden Cruze.

If you were the driver of the Holden Cruze, or have dash cam footage or information regarding the accident please contact Bendigo Police Station (they are currently investigating this) or me directly.

Thank you

Understanding Bendigo's Job Market and Economy

Hey guys, I've just recently moved to Australia and i'm currently still trying to understand the professional culture and such!

It would be awesome if you guys can share a bit about what industry you're in (or what is hot!). I'd love to hear more from both locals and people who are in the same boat!

Somehow, the city centre looks really dead at the moment. Has it always been like this?

local florists (that aren’t bloomex)?

hi all!
i recently entered a ldr with an aussie living in bendigo and am here to ask for some local recommendations! after doing some research it seems like the company bloomex (which i unfortunately already ordered from lol) seems to own many of the florists in aus and has…less than favorable reviews. pardon me for asking, but i just much prefer to shop local and want to get it right for him the first time.

thank you so much!

What? Why?

Saw this at High St. in GS, my question is why?

(Is it an inside joke with the garbage collector? Cause I saw the truck a few meters away)

anyone else's kid suddenly obsessed with dance or just mine

so my 6yo has been begging to start ballet for months and we finally signed her up for classes here in bendigo. she's been practicing her moves in the living room nonstop and it's the cutest thing but also i have no idea what i'm doing lol.

trying to figure out what she actually needs for her first class and i'm so overwhelmed. the list from the studio was like a whole essay. i thought it was just shoes and a leotard but apparently there's more?? been googling dance stuff for days and my brain is fried.

found this brand Energetiks that seems decent for kids stuff and they ship pretty fast. got her some basics and hoping it all fits cause i really don't wanna deal with returns from here lol.

anyone got local recommendations for dancewear in bendigo or is online the way to go? also if anyone's got tips for keeping a 6yo focused during class pls share cause she's very energetic lol

Looking to learn MiG welding.

I have done part of a Cert IV in Engineering at Vic Uni back in 2019-2021 (pandemic halted most of 2020), then government changed the rules. Bendigo TAFE won’t take me after almost 6 months trying to get in (so don’t suggest them), and currently coasting through an Associate Degree at La Trobe (can’t figure out physics, statistical R-Studio, or humanity engineering).
Does anyone know of any other places or companies that would offer welding courses?
I’m 37, located in Golden Square and enjoy hands on experience training.

Local landscapers need

Looking for local landscaper & fencing recommendations in Bendigo
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a reliable local landscaper in the Bendigo/Huntly area for a new home.
The work includes:
Colorbond fencing
Basic landscaping
Retaining wall (if required)
Turf
Garden edging
Crushed rock or gravel pathways
I’m after someone who does quality work at a reasonable price. If you’ve had a good experience with a local landscaper or fencing contractor, I’d really appreciate your recommendations (or any companies to avoid).
Photos of completed jobs would also be great if you’re happy to share.
Thanks in advance!
