My 730 record won’t engage half way?

Hi everyone! I’m new to working with my (new to me) 730 record Bernina. It belonged to my grandma and she had bought it brand new in her younger days.

I have made a skirt with it and had no issues and love how hard it worked without fail but I have ran into an issue.

While sewing fabric quilted fairy wings for my niece for her birthday my needle stopped going down. It’ll engage a bit then gets stuck and now the wheel won’t move forward past a certain mid point (as pictured)

I’m in a time crunch to get this project finished and am wondering if anyone has any tips before I breakdown and start trying to hand sew.

Just adding that I live in a small fairly remote town and the closest repair shop is 2 hours away.

Thank you for any help in advance!

I have this bernina 1000 special, but all my bobbins don’t Fit? This spoon in the house says bernina. And I bought a pack of like 30 spools and they don’t fit .
I just noticed I have been using a spool for industrial juki which I also have.
What size do I need ??

Walking foot - genuine Bernina vs. "Bernina compatible"

Hi all! I need your experience and advice for a walking foot for my new-to-me Activa 145.

Has anyone had a good experience with an aftermarket "Bernina compatible" walking foot? Online reviews have made me a little leery of purchasing one.

Is the foot itself any good, are the soles well machined? I'm worried about them snagging on fabric or just not being well made. Would it be a good idea to buy a less expensive (I found one for $100) two sole Bernina walking foot on eBay and then get a $35 aftermarket foot for the stitch-in-the-ditch sole?

Thank you for the help!

I am looking at a Bernina 1090 this weekend because my machine broke. Any ideas what I should test on it?

The person selling it is the son of the owner so I don't think he knows anything about the machine to be able to check for me (I asked him what presser feet it had and he didn't know what it was).

I also don't know a whole lot about machines so don't want to mess it up/think I might be anxious trying it out. But don't want to miss something since I'd be spending an ok amount on it ($400) and wouldn't be able to get that money back.

Also I'd be using it for clothes.. what presser feet would you recommend? My last machine I just used buttonhole, zipper, walking foot, and regular.

Thank you!

What’s your tip?

I recently learned how to change my default stitch length on my 4 series machine from 2.5 to 2 on the straight stitch. That got me thinking that there must be other tips out there that I’m not aware of. Hit me up!

Go to the stitch you want to save the length to and adjust it to the length you like. Press the info button and then the save icon. That will save to the settings it’s currently on.

Bernina foot adaptors/compensating feet

I recently acquired an old Bernina 801 sport which is a serious upgrade to my previous machine, and I was aware that Bernina had a proprietary foot system and that I would need to use an adaptor for it to accept other feet.

However, I need to be able to use compensating feet for a lot of my work as I do lots of topstitching, and these work much better than the edge guide type feet. And I have now realised the only adaptor available is for low profile feet, and not standard industrial feet, and there don’t seam to be many available options for low shank compensating feet.

Does anyone have a work around for this? Or will i just need to bite the bullet and use an adjustable stitch in the ditch type foot.

Many thanks in advance.

Has anyone done a stitch book for their machine?

I know this is going to take awhile but I’m really liking the process.
And now I’m realizing I can use a lot of these decorative stitches in quilting applications!

I got the idea to make the notebook paper from Bernina of Naperville’s YouTube video!

Bernina #1130. Found at thrift store, no presser foot, and the wheel is frozen.

My question to you all! Is it worth repairing?

The body and the cover are in great shape. It looks like it was very well stored and cared for. What do you think? I really would appreciate some commentary. Thanks a bunch!

The thread stands on my Bernina 1030 are stuck

Normally the white parts of the stands would extend out of the metal part (I think there’s a spring inside?), but they’ve been stuck.
Anyone have the same issue? Anyone know how to make them spring out again?

Walking Foot #50 Question

Hi I got a BERNINA Aurora 440QE recently and am still learning the ropes. I am currently trying to make a quilt but the feed dog isn’t powerful enough to push the fabric and batting through. After some research I believe I need a walking foot #50 pressure foot.

I just want to double check before I purchase the foot. I plan to try and find it online since the closest Bernina Dealer to me is 3 hours one way.

Any and all advice is appreciated!

Thread Question for 750QE

So I have a 750QE and I used to mainly use Guttermann 50wt Sew-All poly thread as my main go to thread. I had no issues with it, it was readily available at my LQS and a good price. Then I took the class that came with my machine purchase and they told me I should be using Aurafil or Mettler. I got some Aurafil 50wt cotton and I honestly hate it. It makes so much lint, it keeps breaking and it always curls at the needle like a ribbon does when you pull scissors over it. I’ve tried rethreading the whole thing, I’ve tried a different sized needle, nothing helps. It’s driving me nuts.

TLDR; am I hurting my machine by using Gutterman poly thread? Is there poly option from Aurafil?

Any insight is appreciated!

should i buy this 750

hello all.

edit (i forgot to say the price lol)
it's $2100

I have the opportunity to buy a 750qe from 2013 with 265,000 stitches. vendor says it's in good condition and will make sure embroidery module (it comes with that) is in good condition as well. 90 day warranty. vendor has 5 stars on google (with legitimate looking reviews)... is this a good deal? is the 2013 model so outdated? It would be my second bernina for another location i spend 1/2 the year in... thanks for any advice...
