Among 26 year old virgins, the most common reason reported by men was a lack of opportunity, while the most common reason reported by women was that they had not found the right person.
In a Swiss study of 5,175 young adults around age 26, 5.3% were still virgins. Men had 2.27 times the adjusted odds of being virgins compared with women. The most common reason reported by male virgins was that they had “not had the occasion” to have sex (47%), while female virgins most commonly said they had “not found the right person” (46%). The second most common reasons were “not found the right person” for men (19%) and “waiting until marriage” for women (19%).
