Black Smoke or Solid Black?

I have gotten SO much back and forth about whether or not my Onyx is black smoke or not, so I’m bringing her to the experts (Reddit lmao).

Age: 17.5 weeks (kitten coat has been changing lots since 12 weeks)

Undercoat / Roots: NO white or silver, YES gray.
(getting this main point out right away)
There ARE silvery roots in some spots, but only where her gray highlights / sections are, other sections are definitely DARK gray* (closer to black than silver)
*See last pic

Photo Timeline: anywhere between 12-17.5 weeks

Ear furnishing: Silver

Underbelly, back of legs, under tail, chest: Gray or silver

Ghost stripes: 100%

I know I know, no stark white roots, no black smoke. That’s what I’ve been thinking too, but I’ve had a lot of people counter this and say it may be because of her adult fur tips coming in dilute it or that she’s a deep black smoke. Not sure, would love your opinion!

Black smoke - OSH style

Meet Oisín! He’s a black smoke Oriental Shorthair. Still a kitten, he’s almost 10 months old. He looks so serious in these photos, but he’s really a very energetic lovebug!

Mando has found his fellow kitties and smoke kitty lovers! 💜

This is Mando, he is one of my two precious kitties. I adopted him because he was shy and had the saddest eyes at the shelter, now he is a spoiled little man who lives for food, brush time and cuddles 💜 He also plays fetch and is just the most wonderful little gentleman. I love seeing everyone's little smoke kitties, it's truly the most magical coat ✨

Our black smoke boy!

Photos of him in various adorable poses. Some with his twin brother who passed a few months back now. They were inseparable! He’s about 11 now. Peanut Butter.

Although no papers, they were oopsies from an oriental shorthair and domestic. Both boys are polydactyl on all four paws and very large framed.

My Smokey Boy

This is Wadge, he’s (allegedly) a Burmilla x Russian Blue/BSH! His coat changes from silvery grey in summer to dark grey during winter.

The Kitten Formerly Known as Vincent

Originally named for Vincent Price, she surprised us all when she turned out to be a girl 😅.

We call her Vera now, and love our golden-eyed little beauty 🖤🩶🖤

Pretty sure he’s a black smoke… right?

This is Pax. He’s 10 months old. I hadn’t heard of black smoke coat pattern until I brought Pax home and looked up Maine Coon coloring (his dad is a Maine Coon) and noticed he looked very similar to the black smoke ones. Thoughts?

Is my newly adopted kitten have a smoke or a fever coat? As well I need name suggestions.

Wondering what kind of coat my newly adopted kitten has? Smoke or Fever? I recently just adopted him and his brother from a rescue and the mother had a solid black short haired coat. His brother is more black and scruffier with white guard hairs and 3 slightly white toes/feet with pink and black toe beans. The other 2 cats in the litter are quite black. also any name suggestions would be great.
