[Discussion]20 Years of Jaime Reyes!

Thought I would post since the character of Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle turned 20 years old this year and has accumulated quite a bit of outside media and solo comic appearances! I think he’s an example of diversity done right (ie DC never stopped pushing forward with him, even when fans complained loudly in those early years).

Which is your favorite appearance? Which is your favorite comic run? Where will Jaime pop up next? I know he has an animated series in development but hopefully another DCU appearance is on the horizon as well as being playable in the rumored Injustice 3. For the comics, I’d like to see Jaime make his Absolute Universe debut

What if Jaime Reyes wasn't chosen to become Blue Beetle?

This is a question I've had for a few days at this point, but what if it actually happened in the comics that Jaime wouldn't be chosen as the Blue Beetle?

Well, there are a few people that could be chosen as the 3rd version of Blue Beetle, some most destined than others, but let's just say that the scarab didn't land on Earth, there could be possibilities to this, it could've landed onto another alien planet, and, if it happened, one scarab could've made a journey all the way to Oa, planet of the Green Lanterns, and found a host there despite the Reach's rivalry with the Green Lantern Corps (or GLC for short), but it could also land on other planets other than the example, maybe in an alternate timeline there is a scarab that lands on the planet closest to Earth, which is Mars if you're wondering, and maybe a Martian could've bonded with the Scarab and become another variation of the Blue Beetle, despite 2 of them being humans.

All in all, I think that if Jaime Reyes never found/bonded with the scarab, then the scarab could've bonded with someone else who found it before Jaime, or if we're talking about if it never landed on Earth in the first place, then the scarab would make a course to another planet, perhaps the 2 examples that I had provided.

But this is just my response, comment what YOU think would happen if Jaime wasn't chosen.

Yo I NEED to see more of Praying Mantis, she has so much potential, I feel like she could be a Black Cat/Catwoman type for Jaime.

In a future comic series or even the Animated Series.

Lapis Lazuli takes flight

Lapis Lazuli, my Blue Beetle, takes flight. But it wasn't always fun for her. Especially when she first started flying.

(this is my own original character and design, she is not public domain)

If I had to do a book today - Global Guardians [fan art]

I have been mulling this idea in my head - I love the old JLI and I thought 'what would I do if I had to make a book today with these characters'

Ofc you can go the Super Buddies route, or 'Not Quite the Justice League' - but I hold the characters in higher regard than that. What I loved about the Bwha-ha-ha era was that they were all still very capable. It went more into humour as time went on ofc, but just look at the early issues or the Despero or breakdown storylines for indications

So I would love to put these characters on a Global scale again, but not Justice League - and since then, because of the connection to JLI - the concept of the resurrected UN-supported Global Guardians have been hounding me.

So, here is my lineup

Blue Beetle (Ted) - the tech genius leader eager to prove himself. Batman of the day - not as good at hand to hand or detective work, but superior gadgets and team strategist. Eternally positive, maybe too much so

Booster Gold, the glory hound with a heart of gold. Yes he will do dumb stuff, but he does it out of love

Rocket Red, the loyal teammate and family man. Can you balance a life as a SuperHero and be a good husband and father without letting anybody down - Dmitri is sure to give it his best

Ice - The Norwegian ice goddess. Too long her happy attitude has been taken as weakness, she will show the world she is a heavy hitter and she'll do it without losing herself.

Fire - the Brazilian Fire-empowered Spy. She finally finds a place where she belongs and can now realise her actual potential

Katana - The brooding Japanese sword master, eager to do things in the shadows to get the job done where others are not willing. She will made this ream succeed even if it kills her.... or them

Geo-Force. He is a monarch. He led the outsiders. He is respected, powerful and capable. So why is he not the leader here? And why does it bother him so much?

Amazing Man - The eager to prove himself new Powerhouse from South Africa. He just got into the game, but he is here to stay. Sure he has less experience than most others on the team, but he makes up for it with raw talent and work ethic.

Halo - The innocent, gawking wide-eyed at the new world that has opened up before her. Where is she even from? What is her story? Who knows.... they are sure to find out the hard way.

August General In Iron - The Chinese Strategist is an aloof and unfeeling straight-man. Beyond reproach, always to be counted on, but ultimately separate from the team. Until they get beyond that stoic exterior and find inside the conviction of a man who will become the heart of the team

I also like that his armour reminds me of Lord Havok of the Extremists and think it sets up a nice storyline down the line - as I would love to get Dreamslayer and the rest back

Other villains - Despero, Dr Destiny, KilG%re, Starro, The Nuclear Family and more!

Lol - thanks for indulging me.... I might make a couple of pages just to let this bug in my head die :D :D

What do you guys think about this? Should Jaime be ok with killing if he has to? (Blue Beetle (2023) Issue 4)
