Why do so many people buy every book they read?

What I'm wondering is why everyone, online atleast, seems to buy every single book they read. I have never seen someone online reading a library copy of a book. Is the supply of books bad in the american library or is it just the online creators that buy all their books and the "normal" people borrow from the library? I'm wondering because it's a lot cheaper to just borrow from the library, and if you dislike a book you can just return it to the library instead of paying money for it and then letting it gather dust. What are the benefits of buying every book you read, according to you who do it?

Which book disappointed you the most?

We all have that one book that we read and it left us disappointed, which one would be that book for you?

For me it was A wrinkle in Time, heard so much good about the book, but when reading it was so bad that I wanted to quit it midway through, really was disappointed with it.

Overcoming the reader's block: I did it!

I have a lot of books to read (I have counted at least 150) plus 20 or more books I found at the bookcrossing. I haven't read a single book since last Summer. I work remote and I am a caregiver for my mum, so during my breaks and at the I end of my work day, I end up scrolling my cellphone for hours.

Yesterday I started to arrange some books, trying to decide whether to get rid of some, and started reading one: to my utter surprise, I got to page 80!

I just wanted to share!! Anyone had similar experience?

I want to read all of these at the same time.

Hey everyone, continuing with my read, I have narrowed it down to these:

  1. Notes on Grief by Chimamanda
  2. Zero to One by Peter Thiel
  3. Mountain is you by Brianna Wiest

I had all these 3 on my TBR for way too long now, and now I can’t decide which one to read first, feeling like reading all of these 3 at the same time, in you were in my shoes, which one would you start with and why?

What’s one book that has stayed with you long after you finished reading it?

Some books entertain us for a few days, while others quietly reshape how we see the world, ourselves, or the people around us. Those are the ones that linger—popping back into your thoughts at unexpected moments or influencing decisions long after you’ve turned the last page.
What’s one book that changed the way you think or continues to stay with you—and why? My one book is **The Battle of Jericho by Sharon M. Draper.** It showed the negative impact of peer pressure. Was it a particular idea, a character you couldn’t forget, or a perspective that challenged you in a meaningful way? Maybe it shifted how you approach relationships, work, or even your sense of purpose.
I’m always looking to expand my reading list and would love to hear your recommendations—and what made them meaningful to you.

Any Science readers here?

Hello everyone,

I wanted to ask are there any science readers out here, I want to expand my horizon in reading, as I have never read any science book before.

Any suggestions on this would be highly appreciated, also books that are not too long, I get bored out of reading lengthy books.

Kindle Paper-white Signature edition

Physical book reader planning on getting Kindle paper-white signature edition, I asked earlier from the community members, and I believe the best device to go with is kindle.

I was thinking of getting the ColorSoft edition, but I don’t read Manga or Comics, so not ideal for me.

Does anyone read books related to species of animals/fish?

Hello! I like to read field guides and handbooks related to animals species and also fish species. I was just curious if there is anyone else that is into such genres of reading too?

I find it a bit uncommon in my circle of friends. So I felt id just post and see if there is anyone else like me 😄

It'll also help me in finding out where I can buy more of these books within the UAE if possible!
