What happened to Don Reid, Marsha's Dentist?
In 1985 my best friend was the actor Timothy Hutton. Tim and I had met 10 years earlier when his sister Heidi was my makeup person for a Berkelely High school production of Oliver. Long story short by '85 Tim was a world famous actor living in NYC. I was in SF at the time. Tim suggested I come stay at his brownstone on W 73rd for the summer of that year. I flew in and when I arrived on his stoop and rang the bell there was no answer. I was starting to think "Great, Tim's not even here. I don't have enough money for a hotel.", and here I am standing on a stoop in Manhattan with all of my shit. Suddenly, I heard something above me, and I looked up. On the fourth floor of this towering brownstone, a large window opened, and two men leaned out of it, "Hey, you must be Sean." I told them yes, I was. Is somebody going to let me in? I can't remember the name of the second guy (probably around my age, mid-20s or so), but the other guy was a fellow, (mid 40s?), I recognized from TV. His name was Don Reid. As B-Bunch aficionados know he played Dr. Stanley Vogel, the young dentist Marcia falls for, in “Love and the Older Man,” broadcast January 5, 1973. He was billed there as Don Brit Reid. Don was funny, affable and a lot of fun to be around. He was a good friend of Tim's and was present a lot during that summer and beyond, (I ended up staying in NYC for close to a year), but neither Tim nor I can remember seeing or hearing from Don after 1990 or so. His internet presence is messy because there's an Aussie actor with the same name who is definitely not the Don I knew, and their respective bios have been combined in error in certain databases. Don was a Cali native I believe. To the best of my knowledge, his last acting gig was on General Hospital — 13 episodes as Emil, 1989–90. If anyone knows anything about what happened to Don Reid I would be forever grateful. Thank you!
