“Rock with You” Brandy ft. Heavy D
All of the real Brandy fans know that her 1995 cover of Michael Jackson’s “Rock with You” is one of the most overlooked songs in her catalog. Heavy D consistently brought the flow and hype that the going up and coming R&B artists of the 90s needed! Brandy’s voice here is so unique; it’s past the debut era but not yet fully matured into the Never Say Never era.
Quincy Jones was brilliant for reproducing Michael’s no.1 hit with Brandy’s unmatched vocal qualities. “Q’s Jook Joint” released in 1995 is a great album altogether.
• It’s the B to-the R to-the A to-the N to-the D to-the Y
“That’s how you greet yo sister?”
I was so excited to see Brandy on “One on One” as Michelle. Brandy and sitcoms just go together! Seeing all of the times her and Ray J have found there ways onto television is a testament to their sibling bond. The Michelle character was kinda messy and lowkey a soft launch into her role as “Chardonnay” on The Game later on.
“You Bring Me Joy” cover
Brandy was only 14 when she sang Anita Baker’s “You Bring Me Joy” on the short-lived sitcom “Thea”. Listen at how mature her voice was. She was truly born to sing. Also, it’s cool seeing her share the screen with future “Andell” and “Tasha Mack”. 🥰
