Uncanny use of “Alpha / “Beta Male” labels in manosphere rhetoric. Brave new world parallels
It’s quite crazy to think of the recently popularized “alpha / beta male” designations that many young men (largely due to the manosphere) have non-ironically adapted today, eerily similar to the labels given to different casts in Huxley’s Brave New World. There does seem to be a sort of distinguishing “cast” system that men are carving out for themselves in recent years (performative / toxic masculinity seemingly deemed as the highest tier).
Needless to say this ideology has played into Gen Z’s men (and women) to objectify the opposite sex as disposable partners for pleasure more than ever before and greatly de-value the virtue of long term romantic partnership.
I just finished Brave New World and am reading the Afterword now, and am blown away by the parallels of current day (2026) society and Huxley’s fictional one.
Life does really seem to imitate art- all the more reason to continue prioritizing the creation of meaningful art while we still have the freedom and autonomy to do so.
