Sirens

I’ve been hearing endless sirens and seeing truck after truck going into the Interlocken area for the last 10 minutes at least, anyone know what’s going on?

McKay Lake Trail open?

Last I saw they pushed back opening the trail from the end of March to the end of April. Is it still closed? I'm disabled so I can't scramble up the rocks to finish the loop.

Anyone know about ICE raids at Crosswinds Arista?

I heard from one person that there were ICE raids a month or two ago at crosswinds Arista apartment complex. If it’s true, why aren’t we talking about this as a community?

Best local auto repair shop

Hi folks! I went to Brakes Plus to get an oil change today and they informed me that I have a coolant leak and need to replace my coolant hose pretty urgently so I don’t damage my engine.

I did a little research on my own and compared their quote and it seems… well, insanely high. Both my dad and sister agreed with me that they were high-balling me. It seems most local repair shops are closed on the weekend and I can’t really do much until Monday anyways, so I figured I’d ask what shops the community in general has had good experiences with. My sister has taken her car to Doc Automotive previously and had a good experience.

FWIW, I have a 2015 Ford Escape with ~88.5K miles. I don’t drive a ton, I mostly WFH right now but I’m job hunting and am worried about making sure my vehicle will be ok if I need to start commuting to a new workplace.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Moving to the area

I am 24f and moving to Broomfield with my partner 26f and we are so excited. What is the queer scene like in the area/ surrounding areas? I’m worried there aren’t many people are age but given that it’s a beautiful location makes up for it. We have lived in Austin and loved it but eventually decided we weren’t big city people. Hoping broomfield is a great fresh start. Any feedback on lifestyle, people, anything would be greatly appreciated!

Update: thanks guys for all the comments they were so helpful!! So excited!!

Forecast says snow after Mother’s day (Monday night) - learn how to cover your outdoor plants

The forecast is saying some light snow and cold weather (low of 35°F) is on its way Monday night. I linked an article about how to cheaply cover garden beds. Best of luck and hopefully none of us are having to replant tomatoes next weekend!

Where to take elderly 3 legged dog to enjoy water?

Greetings everyone, my wife and I are new-ish to the area. Sadly our oldest dog (Maggie) was diagnosed with cancer and had to have her front leg amputated a few weeks ago. We’re now working on her “bucket list” so to speak. She’s always loved getting in the water, but I’m not sure where we can take her. She can’t do long walks so nearby parking may be the tricky part. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated (I don’t mind a bit of a drive)! Pic is her enjoying a the morning and keeping an eye on all the squirrels/rabbits.

Hammock options nearby?

Anyone know where it’s ok to put up a hammock in the north metro area? Looking at Broomfield and Westminster mainly but open to Thornton, superior, Louisville, etc.

State Representative Kenny Van Nguyen Update for House District 33!

For the past 120 days I've had the honor of serving at the State Capitol as Colorado's newest lawmaker. Since my appointment in January, I've been doing the work to ensure the needs of House District 33 are fought for at the legislature.

I served on the Transportation, Housing and Local Government committee where I focused on building safe communities and solving Colorado's housing and transportation challenges. Additionally working on the State, Civic, Military and Veteran Affairs Committee has only deepened my respect for the civic engagement and sacrifice which makes our state a wonderful place to live.

When I was trusted with this responsibility, I promised to serve the people of HD 33 with compassion, dignity and respect.

Easy pond to take small kid fishing?

Can anyone recommend a good pond to take my 6 year old fishing? Preferably something stocked, don’t have to be big fish just want it easy to hook one then release it. We have had no luck at the Boulder Kids Pond, Ketner Open Space, and Margaret’s Pond.
