Common Courtesy at Restaurants

When did common courtesy die?

Long story short, we were out at Swiss Chalet this evening for dinner and the table besides us (who were cunts to the staff right off the bat) sat down and one of the two fucking women at the table joined a zoom call at FULL VOLUME and just put her phone down on the fucking table and then proceeded to speak louder to the other woman she was with!

Like I don't get it, I had to take a zoom call from 6:30 - 7:00 during our dinner so I simply excused myself from the dining area, stood by the door and went outside, when I saw our food had arrived at the table I went back in but I turned down my phone and held it up to my ear so I could hear my zoom call.

After these two women then started some fucking drama at the end of their meal, I spoke up and called them on the fact that they ruined our evening as my daughter could hardly talk over them to my wife and I and we constantly had to lean in closer to hear her and when I said why'd her zoom call need to be on full volume on the table when I was perfectly able to take my zoom call with the volume reduced and up to my ear, I was told to "mind my own fucking business" after they were trying to say the server was arguing with another table (not minding their business at all).

I guarantee this woman uses ChatGPT to write her essays for class too.

Edit: I forgot to include that one of the other patrons at the place got a video of them and that pissed them off more! They threatened to send their large social media following after all of us hahahahahahaha

Holiday Inn accessible stall fail

The gap between the wall and the stall. This is NOT the door to gain entrance to the stall. It's right beside the full length mirror by the washroom exit. Brutal. Yes, I was looking at myself in the mirror. Guelph Line and Harvester location.

Best places to apply in person around Burlington?

Hi everyone! 😊

I’m a 25-year-old female currently looking for part-time or full-time work in Burlington/Oakville and was wondering if anyone knows of companies, restaurants, stores, warehouses, cafés, or businesses that are actively hiring and open to in-person applications/interviews.

I have experience in customer service, operations, retail support, and working in fast-paced environments, and I’m available to start immediately.

Would really appreciate any recommendations, referrals, or places you’ve recently seen hiring.

Thank you so much!

Structural engineer/general contractor recommendations?

Looking to knock out most of a brick wall (load bearing) to install French doors. I understand this sort of work requires both a structural engineer AND a general contractor. Has anyone here (in Hamilton or surrounding area) ever put in a door where there was no door? In brick? If so, can you/would you recommend who you hired? Any leads would be greatly appreciated! Thank you :)

Bathroom installation

Hi all,

Just been through a brutal ordeal with a company trying to get a bathroom installed in my basement. Work was not even started but a deposit was taken and long story short it didn’t work out and the deposit was luckily refunded.

It is very difficult to know good companies and contractors and I’m just hoping the good people of Reddit can help me out. I reached out to a couple contractors so far but want to get at least 5 quotes and get this started so it’s done no later than November. Any help would be appreciated.

EH Canada in Burlington mall?

Does anyone know if EH Canada is still in Burlington Mall/Burlington Centre? It used to be in the new hallway by Marks Work Warehouse. My MIL wants to go but can’t walk far so I don’t want to have to look around the whole mall. Thanks!

Summer Classes for University Student

Hi everyone,

I’m currently a university student back for the summer and want to use it doing something beneficial.

I’m looking to take a few summer courses to build practical skills in business, accounting, coding, and Excel, and I’d really appreciate any recommendations or guidance towards something like this in the area.

All I've been able to find are for credit courses at McMaster or Sheridan that count towards a degree. I am looking just to learn something new instead.

Also open to hearing what not to waste time on.

Thanks in advance!

Feedback on the Lasalle neighbourhood

Hi all,

We’re considering moving from another area of Burlington to Lasalle, a bit closer to Plains than the lake, and looking for feedback on the neighbourhood. Particularly if you’ve lived there. We drove around and there doesn’t seem to be much highway noise, the street seemed sleepy, I’m wondering if there’s a issue with outages with all the power lines so close and the reputation of the apartment buildings nearby. TIA!

Looking for a Ceramic-Coating Safe Touchless Car Wash

Anyone know of a good automatic touchless car wash that specifically claims to be safe for ceramic coated car?

I’m fully aware that hand washing is the best practice for maintaining a ceramic coating, and that’s what I normally do. I’m just looking to have an automatic touchless option available for convenience during busy weeks or bad weather.

Not looking for brushes or soft-touch washes, only true touchless systems that use ceramic-safe soaps/chemicals if possible.

Would appreciate any recommendations or experiences. Thanks!

Anyone else turn on air conditioning yesterday?

I try not to be the first person in my neighborhood to switch on my A/C at the beginning of the season... Don't know why, but somehow it feels like a personal victory when I hold out longer.

Yesterday afternoon, my smart thermostat notified me that it was warm in the house (over 25C). I went outside to check which direction the breeze was coming from so I could open windows to maximize cross-draft. I noticed none of my neighbours had windows open and I could already hear the hum of at least two A/C condensers.

My windows stayed open for about 3 hours, the house temperature climbed to 28C before I decided to close them and switch on the A/C. Last year, looks like June 2nd was my first A/C day. May 18th this year.

Young ladies/men in relationships 25-30 years old want to be social?

Moved here from Etobicoke with my boyfriend a bit of a compromise at the time as my whole social network/family is in Toronto but I do really like Burlington. We live downtown on Brant St. Recently moved from Paradigm by the Go train where we lived the last 2 years.

We are super active and outgoing, go cycling running, etc. would love to meet other 25F year olds or couple friends to grab a drink with, comedy show, bowling, play pickleball or a girl to go for coffee walks/ Pilates and matcha. Honestly down for it all but so hard to meet people in person.

Anyways Reddit may not be the right audience but feel free to hit me up and see if we connect?

Was also thinking, if we get a decent group we could do a social night where we all go for dinner/mingle and get to know a few people at once!

Also, super random but been wanting to volunteer at Burlington green if anyone would be interested - let’s do it!!
