Like, I've read Sixth Wheels and the Mike AITA fic. I'm looking for fics that are that level of funny. Where Max and Mike constantly try to outwit each other, where everyone ragebaits Mike, where Mike is a hilarious loser, where Will is a clever brat who tortures Mike, where even Will can't resist getting one over on Mike, where Will has cute but embarrassing moments, etc.Gimme it all.

I've seen a few people on here comment about having a little burnout with Byler fics that focus on them getting together, so figured I'd ask around to see if anyone has any recommendations for fics where they're already together.

Whether they're still in the early days figuring things out or a future fic where they've been together for years, general domestic fluff very much welcome as well.

So I just came from another post that ended up mentioning some phrases that bother people in Byler fanfic.

So, I want to learn more. What are some stereotypes/tropes/common themes/phrases you DON'T like to see in Byler fics?

Here are a few of mine:

-Mike being a confident sex god and being smug in the bedroom. No. Just no. Awkward Mike, always.

-The Party always taking Will's side any time there is conflict with Byler, and no one being there for Mike. Like, in fics Max and Lucas always let Will stay with them or something and always take Will's side without even hearing Mike's side of the story, and won't let Mike see Will. Sometimes Dustin and El will be in on it too. Like, they're both your friends?

-Will going away to college and immediately coming home two or three months later for Thanksgiving or Christmas with a SERIOUS boyfriend who is OBSESSED with him. And the Party except for Mike immediately falls in love with him too. Like, can he acclimate to his new city and find himself for a bit and make friends first?!

-Will falling for the first guy who shows any interest in him. Guy turns out to be a dud at best and the Party tells him he can do better but he refuses to break up with the guy because he insists that this is his one and only shot at love even though he moved to wherever to meet many people like him.

-Will dating someone who is abusive or doesn't treat him well so that Mike can rescue him and present as the obvious choice. Mike should have to do the work to actually be better and Will should choose him because of the man Mike has become, not because the other option sucks or because of how long he's known Mike.

-Overly freaky Byler where Mike is anazing and naturally dominant and Will is a closet freak and immediately comfortable with everything. Like, let those absolute nerds have awkward clumsy sex and then go into best friend mode and laugh about it.

It’s a fic with just 3 chapters where Mike’s son, Hugo, accidentally travels back to the 80s where Mike and Will are just teenagers. And everyone thinks that Hugo’s parents are Mike and El but it’s actually Mike and 👀

i was wondering if anybody knows a fic thats like the ninth episode of season five where it was a trance by vecna?

does anyone know if there's a fanfic that's like a reverse of landslide with will being the young one? i just thought of this and hope that it's out there

I’ve been averaging about a million words of byler fanfic per month, & I’m pretty sure I’m getting burnt out. Things are starting to feel so repetitive, & little things that I used to be able to gloss over are now making me irrationally angry. I hate this. I have so much admiration for people putting their work out there, & it sucks to not even enjoy some of it anymore.

I think I’m going to take a step back & get back into some of my other hobbies. Like just read the WIPs I’m already reading when they update & see if that helps.

Has anyone else ever experienced this tho? If so, what helped you?

hey y'all. i have been looking for some fics to read. there are a ton of options and i have no idea where to even begin. so, i was wondering if y'all would recommend some of your favorite fics? all the recommendations are welcomed and appreciated. :)

I didn't expect character development to be so good when I started reading this one. it's not super long but also not super short. (30k I think)

Will's frustrated about bad hookups and Mike offers to help.

I fell in love with Mike's sexuality awakening in this and my favorite part was the first thing he wanted to do when he realized he was gay, was go tell Will.

Now I need more like this. Y'all know of any fics where Mike realizes he's gay but instead of pushing people away he reaches out?? Any non-avoidant Mike?

And maybe this is a stretch to ask for, but what about a non-avoidant Will?

Any fics which demonstrate secure attachment styles? (in one or both characters) I know this would minimize opportunities for angst. but there could be externally driven angst.

Hi! I lost a fic again 😭 It was a Will in New York fic. He’s with Carlton but Carlton isn’t a great guy, I think? And Mike comes to visit Will and I think Will ends up cheating on Carlton with Mike? And Mike decides to move to NYC and adopts a cat (the same cat that Will wanted to adopt but Carlton had said no to) and the cat has one blue and one yellow eye and Mike names her Willow!

Does anyone have any Byler fanfics where other party members or just other people in general, realize that Mike's overprotectiveness and different tone of voice with Will cuz I can't find any l. Thank you 🙏🏾

The writing is unbelievable. Once it catches on it’s going to be the next Smalltown Boy imo.

Upon arriving to college Mike finds out that his roommate is openly gay. Mike mentions his best friend is also gay, & expresses interest in wanting to be a good friend/ally. His roommate invites him to some LGBTQ+ events on campus. Mike hears from people that dated the opposite sex before coming out, people who fell in love with their friends, feelings of relationships not feeling “right, etc. & it makes him realize things about himself & about his feelings for Will.

I feel like this setup would well for Mike & his feelings of wanting to be seen as “normal”. Finding out he’s not alone might make it easier on him to come to terms with things. And it gives a great opportunity for awkward “came out wrong” moments for Mike.
